A Moments Pleasure : A New Beginning Benny (Bird) Primetime Daniels, John Farrington, John Jones, Bill Keith and James (J.P.) Phillips are A Moment's Pleasure, and they sing polished, smooth, deep-bassed, close-harmony a cappella street corner doo-wop. Formed in 1982, all the group members have paid their dues (dues-wop?) big time, and it shows. 15 classic songs, from 'What's Your Name,' 'Farewell My Love,' 'Sitting In the Park' and 'Save the Last Dance for Me,' to 'Come Go with Me,' 'So Fine,' 'Sincerely' and 'Don't Leave Me Baby' - it's all great doo-wop with more of a 60s flavor without losing the vintage R&B 1950's sound! Songlist: What's Your Name?, Could This Be Magic, Farewell My Love, Sitting in the Park, Talking To My Heart, Save The Last Dance For Me, While Walking, Lost Love, Come Go With Me, So Fine, I Do, Sincerely, Peace Of Mind, Never Let Me Go, Don't Leave Me Baby The Drifters : Very Best Of Drifters All the great hits! Songlist: There Goes My Baby (If You Cry), True Love, True Love, Dance With Me, This Magic Moment, Save The Last Dance For Me, I Count The Tears, Some Kind Of Wonderful, Up On The Roof, On Broadway, Under the Boardwalk, I've Got Sand In My Shoes, Saturday Night At The Movies, Please Stay, Sweets For My Sweet, When My Little Girl Is Smiling, I'll Take You Home The Drifters : Up On The Roof / Under The Boardwalk Two original early '60s LPs are combined here and the result is a virtual Drifters Greatest Hits. "Up on the Roof," Carole King's gorgeously romantic ode to working class escape and freedom, is here in both the hit single and slightly longer LP versions (the single is in mono, the LP version is stereo with a longer intro). Elsewhere, you'll find a real embarrassment of riches, with song after brilliant hit song from the fertile imaginations of the great Brill Building writers of the pre-Beatle era, including Barry Mann and Cynthia Weill ("On Broadway"), Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman ("Sweets for My Sweet," "This Magic Moment," "Save the Last Dance for Me"), plus lesser known but equally evocative songs from Burt Bacharach and Otis Blackwell. Timeless stuff. Songlist: Up On The Roof, There Goes My Baby, Sweets For My Sweet, This Magic Moment, Mexican Divorce, Stranger On The Shore, What To Do, Save The Last Dance For Me, Lonliness Or Happiness, Another Night With The Boys, (If You Cry) True Love, True Love, Room Full Of Tears, When My Little Girl Is Smiling Ruby Baby, Under the Boardwalk, One Way Love, On Broadway, Didn't It, I Feel Good All Over, Vaya Con Dios, Rat Race, In The Land Of Make Believe, If You Don't Come Back, Let The Music Play, I'll Take You Home The Drifters : Save The Last Dance For Me / The Good life Two classic Atlantic albums from '61 and '65, featuring some of the Drifters' biggest hits-including 'Save the Last Dance for Me; Some Kind of Wonderful; I Count the Tears; Sweets for My Sweet; Please Stay; Saturday Night at the Movies; Mexican Divorce; Tonight; Temptation', and more. 24 tracks, over an hour of music! Songlist: Save The Last Dance For Me, I Count The Tears, Somebody New Dancin' With You, Jackpot, No Sweet Lovin', Sweets For My Sweet, Some Kind Of Wonderful, Sweets For My Sweet, Mexican Divorce, Some Kind Of Wonderful, When My Little Girl Is Smilin', Please Stay, Nobody But Me, Room Full Of Tears, Quando Quando Quando, On The Street Where You Live, I Wish You Love, Tonight, More, What Kind Of Fool Am I, The Good Life, Desafindo, As Long As She Needs Me, Who Can I Turn To, Saturday Night At The Movies, Temption Jay, Ray and Gee : The Street Entertainer (Vol 4) "A'Capella New Orleans" by local favorites Jay, Ray & Gee is a generous helping of soulful Doo-Wop, tasty as a hot mess of Cajun shrimp. "Runaround Sue," "Save The Last Dance for Me," "Who Wrote the Book of Love?," the Otis Redding anthem "Dock of the Bay," "Don't Know Much About History," "Games People Play," Van Morrison's "Brown-Eyed Girl," "I'll Be There," "In the Still of the Night," "Let It Whip," "Kiss and Say Goodbye," finishing with the spirituals "This Little Light of Mine" and "Savior, Hear My Humble Cry." These guys have paid some dues, you can hear it in their voices, and we would fly to New Orleans just to catch some of their authentic, roots Doo-Wop live at some funky Big Easy bar! Songlist: Jailhouse Rock, Runaround Sue, Save the Last Dance for Me, The Book of Love, Sitting on the Dock of the Bay, Wonderful World, (They Just Can't Stop it) The Games People Play, Brown-Eyed Girl, I'll Be Around, In the Still of the Night (I Remember), Let it Whip, Kiss and Say Goodbye, This Little Light of Mine, Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior, Is There ANybody Here Who Loves My Jesus? "Groovin'" is a duet between tenor singer Alan Paul and Felix Cavaliere, the song's composer. The late Laura Nyro, writer of "La-La Means I Love You, "duets with soprano Cheryl Bentyne; Janis Siegel, alto, gets her turn with Bette Midler, on "It's Gonna Take A Miracle." Phil Collins steps forward with bass vocalist Tim Hauser to sing "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby." Other highlights: "The Thrill Is Gone," with B.B. King and Ruth Brown, and "God Only Knows," arranged by Mervyn Warren of Take 6! Songlist: Let's Hang On, Groovin', It's Gonna Take A Miracle, I Second That Emotion, La-La Means I Love You, Too Busy Thinking About My Baby, The Thrill Is Gone, Hot Fun In The Summertime, Along Comes Mary, Dream Lover, Save The Last Dance For Me, God Only Knows Memory Lane : Acappella Ave Though we have scant information on this sextet, save that they come from Pennsylvania, we can say that their sound was obviously inspired by the great doo-wop groups like the Spaniels and Moonglows. This is a 1999 release, but, as their name implies, the singers of Memory Lane aren't about today. Their arrangements really capture the flavor of the genuine article, the performances have punch and authority, and the blend is earthy, thick and resonant. Favorite cuts include 'California Dreamin',' 'Mio Amore' and 'I Like It Like That.' Songlist: Tell Me Today, Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go, A Quiet Place, Ready For Your Love, Don't Say Goodbye, California Dreamin', Save the Last Dance for Me, Mio Amore, Da Doo Ron Ron, Please Stay, I Like It Like That, Never Never, Drip Drop, False Love, So Fine Things To Come : Together We Stand "Together," the second CD of Things To Come, four smooth-singing, good-looking black men, is a soulful, Doo-Wop treat! 19 songs, some of our favorites are "Little Bitty Pretty One," The Jesters' "Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go," The Drifters' "Save The Last Dance for Me" and "Up On The Roof/Under The Boardwalk," The Moonglows' "My Diary," The Temptations' Motown hit "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" and Lenny Welsh's "Since I Fell For You." This is some sweet Doo-Wop from an excellent group right now, and we expect even better Things To Come. Songlist: T.T.C. This pop hit from 1960 (the only #1 hit for the group, The Drifters) has been recorded by dozens of artists from country to r&b, including Dolly Parton and Michael Bublé. Jay's new arrangement has a light, almost Latin groove, a fresh new approach for a pop classic.
