King Sisters : Queens Of Song : 1 CD : 348

King Sisters : Queens Of Song

The lovely King Sisters, hailing from Utah, were six in number, though the group usually featured four at a time, allowing for flexibility as family commitments encroached. Having been influenced by the Boswell Sisters, they sought fame and fortune in the early thirties, and began singing with bandleader Horace Heidt. Their success continued into the forties and fifties, as contemporaries of the Andrews and McGuire Sisters, and even into the 1960's, when they had their own television program, "The King Family Show." With their orchestra, conducted by Frank DeVol, the girls produced a slew of close harmony classics, from the wistful ballad, as in "The Day You Came Along" and "I Don't Know Why," to the cheerful "Cielito Linda," "You Made Me Love You" and "Pagan Love Song"; and who could forget "When The Swallows Came Back To Capistrano"? What a trip down memory lane!

Songlist: Memories of You, It's Easy to Remember, When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano, I May Be Wrong, Pagan Love Song, Miss Otis Regrets, I Don't Know Why, Cielito Linda, Basin Street Blues, The Day You Came Along, An Old Guitar and an Old Refrain, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Why Should I Cry Over You, You Made Me Love You, St. Louis Blues, I've Had My Moments, Stars Fell On Alabama, East of the Sun, By the River Sainte Marie, All Of Me, Love is the Thing, Don't Worry 'Bout Me, Stomping at TheSavoy

Mills Brothers : Original & Greatest Hits : 1 CD : 2551

Mills Brothers : Original & Greatest Hits

The four Mills Brothers had a style that combined the best elements of vaudeville, Negro minstrelsy and the barbershop quartet with elements of the new jazz sound. Their habit of cupping their hands over their mouths to create an orchestral sound (similar to effects created by Europe's Comedy Harmonists), was a sensational factor in their success story, and appearances on popular radio programs like "Rudy Vallee's Fleishmann's Yeast Hour" led to their first million-selling record, "Tiger Rag/Nobody's Sweetheart" in 1931. The Brothers endeared themselves to movie audiences the world over with appearances on such hits as "Big Broadcast of 1932" with Bing Crosby, Kate Smith, Cab Calloway and the Boswell Sisters.

Songlist: Tiger Rag, Dinah, You Always Hurt The One You Love, St. Louis Blues, Bugle Call Rag, Swing It, Sister, Sleepy Head, Across The Alley From The Alamo, You Rascal, You, I Heard, Nobody's Sweetheart, Rockin' Chair, I Wish, Shine, It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing), I Don't Know Enough About You, Be My Life's Companion, Sixty Seconds Got Together, Till Then, I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm, Put Another Chair At The Table, Goodbye Blues
