"On the Sunny Side of the Street" is a 1930 song, with credited music composed by Jimmy McHugh and lyrics by Dorothy Fields. Some authors say that Fats Waller was actually the composer, but he sold the rights for the money. It was introduced in the Broadway musical Lew Leslie's International Revue, starring Harry Richman and Gertrude Lawrence.

The Gold went to St. Charles, Missouri's dynamic Ambassadors of Harmony, who sing Rogers and Hammerstein's "I Have Dreamed" and Frank Loesser's "New Ashmolean Marching Society and Student's Conservatory Band," which must be heard to be believed. 2nd Place went to The Northern Lights, with "Make Them Hear You," 3rd to New Tradition Chorus, who recall the minstrel shows with Stephen Foster's "Medley: Camptown Races/Ring Ring de Banjo/Buffalo Gals," 4th to Alexandria Harmonizers" with Gershwin's bluesy "Summertime," and 5th to The Alliance, who give us "The Sunshine of Your Smile." But to ears educated by the doo wop and soul groups to come, this group's stuff is mighty fine, definitely vocal pop but hinting of the left turn towards R&B that vocal music was soon to take in the '50s. We are proud to present the *first-ever* compilation on CD of their work, with notes setting the scene for these 24 great sides. Songlist: Way Down Yonder in New Orleans, I'm Getting Sentimental Over You, Why Should I Complain?, Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, So Long, Calliope Jane, We'll Meet Again, I Understand, Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams (And Dream Your Troubles Away), Yes, Indeed!, Elmer's Tune, I Got It Bad (and That Ain't Good), On the Boardwalk (In Atlantic City), You Can't See the Sun When You're Cryin', Open the Door, Richard!, Ride, Ride, Ride, Chi-Baba, Chi-Baba (My Bambino Go To Sleep), On the Sunny Side of the Street, Sleepy Time Gal, Oooh! Look-a-There, Ain't She Pretty?, What Did He Say? (The Mumble Song), The Last Thing I Want Is Your Pity, A Kiss and A Rose, Until Four Lads : Breezin' Along / On The Sunny Side The Four Lads transition from singing together as Canadian choir boys, to stardom at New York's Le Ruban Bleu, to being voted America's favorite vocal group, is the stuff of music industry legend, but it's their fresh, jazzy, exuberant sound that we're interested in. Blessing again the record executive who first combined two classic lps on one CD for the price of one, we have 24 tracks here, all orchestrally accompanied, but the emphasis is on the four amazing singers. On "Breezin'," are songs like "That Old Feeling," "Someone Like You," "Long Ago (And Far Away)," "Someone To Watch Over Me," "Come To Me" and "A Lovely Way To Spend An Evening." On "Sunny," there's "The Things We Did Last Summer," "Bidin' My Time," "Makin' Whoopee" "Dancing In The Dark," "Lazy River," and "Side By Side." A generous helping of the Lads' contagiously jazzy, 60s nightclub sound! Songlist: Breezin' Along With The Breeze, That Old Feeling, Swingin' Down The Lane, Someone Like You, You Were Meant For Me, Hit The Road to Dreamland, Long Ago (And Far Away), That's My Desire, Someone To Watch Over Me, I'll String Along With You, Come To Me, A Loverly Way To Spend An Evening, On The Sunny Side Of The Street, The Things We Did Last Summer, Taking A Chance On Love, Biden' My Time, Makin' Whoopee, Sentimental Journey, These Foolish Things, Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams, Dancing in the Dark, Lazy River, The Way You Look Tonight, Side By Side Lawrence Children's Choir : Here's To Song "Here's To Song" is The Lawrence Children's Choir's second CD, once again directed by founder Janeal Krehbiel and accompanied by co-founder Marilyn Epp. There are 30 songs here, all but a couple are accompanied by piano or piano and clarinet or oboe. The 70-voice choir takes more chances on their second CD, in the form of more solos and more adventuresome arrangements. The song selection continues to be all over the map, from Gabriel Faure's "Pie Jesu from Requiem Mass" to Joan Varner's wonderful "When I Am Silent." These kids don't hold anything back, and can hit the high notes with ease and skill. Here's to the children, Ms. Krehbiel , Ms. Epp, and To Song! Songlist: Stars, Down in the Forest, Two German Folk Songs:, -Spinnerliedchen, -Abscheid, Pie Jesu from Requiem Mass, Fare Ye Well, Kyrie from Missa Brevis in C minor, Kalinka, Linden Lea, Five Little Chickens from Country Scenes, She Shall Have Music, Hey Nonny No!, If Music Be the Food of Love, O filii et filiae, Poor Lonesome Cowboy, Mary Had A Little Blues, Spring Morning, Bel Tempo che vola, When I Am Silent, Let the Merry Bells Ring Out, My Beloved, Holy, Holy, Holy, Dance on My Heart, Still wie die Nacht, Tebe poem, Away from the Roll of the Sea, On the Sunny Side of the Street, The Nightingale, Chindia, and more Pied Pipers : Dreams From The Sunny Side of the Street In the 1940s, in comparison to the rest of the world, Americans had it all-nylons, chewing gum and harmony groups like the Merry Macs, Modernaires and the Pied Pipers. Originally an octet when first hired by Tommy Dorsey, they were fired when his sponsors disapproved of "Hold Tight-Want Some Sea Food Mama" as unsuitable broadcast material (this is the first we've ever heard of this-possibly it had a hidden sexual connotation?). In any case, they reduced to a quartet and were on the verge of disbanding when they were hired back by Dorsey to join his new solo vocalist Frank Sinatra. With Sinatra the Pipers recorded quite a few hits including "I'll Never Smile Again," which was the very first #1 record on Billboard's Best Selling record chart, which began in 1940. The group's Jo Stafford also had solo hits, including "Yes Indeed." After an argument with Dorsey the group left for Hollywood and signed to newly-formed Capital Records. "Deacon Jones/Pistol Packin' Mama" was the first of a string of hits on their own and with Johnny Mercer and other solo artists, including "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive," "Personality," "Winter Wonderland," "The Trolley Song," "In The Moon Mist," "My Happiness" and "Dream." All songs are Swing-band accompanied. This is one of those 2-CD, 50-song collections we love so well because they are such a bargain and have so much great music. The Pipers were one of the most popular harmony groups of the Swing Era, and this is their "greatest hits" collection. What a treat from one of our favorite eras in American music! Songlist: Pistol Packin' Mama, Doin' What Comes Natur'lly, Dream, In The Middle Of May, Girl of My Dreams, Cecilia, Watcha Know Joe?, You've Got Me This Way, What A Deal, There's Good Blues Tonight, Mairzy Doats, My Happiness, My! My!, The Freedom Train, Sweet Potatoe Piper, Old Man River, On the Sunny Side of the Street, Nine Old Men, You And Your Love, You Won't Be Satisfied, I Love It So, I've Got the Sun In the Morning, It's Only A Paper Moon, Linger In My Arms, I'll Buy That Dream, Easy Street, Gotta Be This Or That, Jamboree Jones, Isn't That Just Like Love, Embraceable You, and more St. Louis Children's Choir : Spring Concerts 2002 The SLCC's mission is to provide children with a choral music experience that emphasizes musical excellence and character education. From simple beginnings in 1978, the program now includes about 500 1st through 12th graders from over 225 schools in the St. Louis, MO area. At the apex of the six progressive levels is the Concert Choir, which performs regularly with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and tours nationally and internationally under the direction of Barbara Berner, who also oversees all the Children's Choir programs. These 31 songs from the SLCC's annual Spring Concerts, most lightly accompanied, begin with 6 wonderful cuts by the Concert Choir, especially Mozart's "Love Duet" from The Magic Flute and a lovely solo on Bill Henderson's (heavily accompanied) "When I Sing." Then we have 3 very sweet live tunes by the Preparatory Choir, particularly "Mrs. Jenny Wren" and "All Night, All Day." Following are the Beginning Choir's "A Distant Shore," and "Orpheus with his Lute," the Intermediate Choir's version of Bob Chilcott's "Concrete" and "Streetseller" (from City Songs), the Choristers' "Oh Susanna" and "On the Sunny Side of the Street," and the Chamber Singers' "Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal" and "For Spacious Skies." The CD closes with all choirs singing their powerful Theme Song, "We Gather Here Together." Great stuff from one of the best children's choir programs we've heard! Songlist: At The River, Hoj, Hura, Hoj, Love Duet, Dome Epais, When I Sing - Wwe Rise Again, Mrs. Jenny Wren, The Song That Nature Sings, A Distant Shore, All Night, All Day, Climbin' Up The Mountains, Don't Let The Nusic Stop, Orpheus With His Lute, Prepare Thyself, Zion, Ferry Me Across The Water, Concrete, Stretseller, Hold Fast Your Dreams, Sing Dem Herrn, Sound The Trumpet, Charlotte-Town, Oh, How My Heart Sings, Ain't That News, Irish Blessing, O Give Thanks, On The Sunny Side Of The Street, Keep Your Lamps, Hark, I Hear The Harps Eternal, For Spacious Skies, We Gather Here Together State Line Grocery : Paper or Plastic? As a group, Georgia-based State Line Grocery is fairly new on the Barbershop scene, having been formed in July of 2003. They immediately won the 2003 Dixie District Quartet Championship in the fall, and went on to qualify for the Barbershop Harmony Society's Internationals in Louisville in 2004. They placed 11th at the 2005 BHS International competition in Salt Lake City, and recently placed 4th at the Denver Internationals! Baritone Heath, Bass Drew, Lead Tim and Tenor Dylan, all longtime BHS veterans and district champs, are turning a lot of heads with the kind of drum-tight harmonies, sweet leads and ringing chords we find on "Paper." 14 songs, some favorites are "The Glory of Love," "Everything Old is New Again," Randy Newman's poignant "When She Loved Me," "Too Marvelous for Words," "On the Sunny Side of the Street," "His Eye is On the Sparrow" and Hank Williams' "I Saw the Light." Beautiful stuff from fast-rising, talented SLG!
