Darmon Meader : Vocal Jazz Classics The swinging Rodgers and Hart tune "I Could Write a Book" is classic vocal jazz. Includes a scat solo, which is written out or can be sung ad lib. The singers are definitely the stars here, though the arrangement can be done with a variety of accompaniments: piano alone, small instrumental combo, or full jazz ensemble. With "Do Nothin' Till You Hear from Me" Darmon adds his vocal jazz touch to Duke Ellington's classic. The lazy, medium swing tempo is just right, and the full-sounding piano accompaniment supports the voices. A breathtaking New York Voices arrangement of the touching ballad "For All We Know", recorded on their CD A Day Like This. The piano accompaniment is stunning and the vocal writing is contemporary. Definitely a great choice for accomplished groups to demonstrate their skill. Songlist: I Could Write a Book, Do Nothin' Till You Hear from Me, On a Clear Day, For All We Know Gene Puerling : Puerling Charts I A collection of mostly a cappella arrangements from quite possibly the greatest vocal jazz arranger ever. Songlist: The Fool On The Hill, Here, There And Everywhere, Michelle, We've Only Just Begun, Yesterday, Try to Remember, On a Clear Day, Emily, Where Is Love?, The Sound of the Singers Unlimited Various Arrangers : Show Tunes There's nothing more fun to sing than a great show tune! An inspired a cappella treatment of the "Fats" Waller classic "Ain't Misbehavin'". Many fun options in the center section - "Rudy Vallee" solo, tap solo, etc. Totally unique! A classic Kirby Shaw setting of a Gershwin ballad " Love Is Here To Stay" is a delight. Here's a stunningly beautiful arrangement of the classic Broadway ballad "On A Clear Day". Steve Zegree's a cappella jazz voicings are breathtaking! Recorded by many artists including Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darrin, "Once Upon A Time" was featured in the Broadway production of All American. Beautiful harmonies and a lyrical melody combine to make this special. Songlist: Ain't Misbehavin', On A Clear Day, Once Upon a Time Various Composers : Singer's Library of Musical Theatre - Baritone / Bass Alfred's Singer's Library of Musical Theatre features a treasury of the finest musical theatre songs. Our wait for their second album has finally been rewarded with brand new release "Old Friends!" The secret to their 2013 success, combining three veteran, past-champion singers with a hot young lead, created a winning sound, a rich, powerful blend that still works for Masterpiece and their happy live audiences. Some of our many favorites among these dozen tunes are Sondheim & Styne's "Everything's Coming Up Roses," Learner & Lane's "On a Clear Day," Boyd Atkins' "Heebie Jeebies," Leon & Otis Rene's "Sweet Lucy Brown," Lewis & Wooten's title tune, Hammerstein & Kern's "Old Man River" and Stephen Foster's classic "Oh! Susanna." You'll love the selections, arrangements, leads, harmonies, breathtaking held notes... in short, "Old Friends" is a, well, Masterpiece! Songlist: Everything's Coming Up Roses, On A Clear Day, I Heard You Singing, Everyone's Wrong But Me, The Wind, Drown In My Own Tears, Heebie Jeebies, Not While I'm Around, Sweet Lucy Brown, Old Friends, Old Man River, Oh! Susanna New York Voices : A Day Like This We have long placed the Grammy-winning two-woman, two man NY Voices in the same company as groups like Singers Unlimited, Manhattan Transfer, The Real Group and Vox One, that is, among the best vocal jazz groups in the world. Receiving "A Day Like This" is cause for celebration, as it has been way too long since the quartet last stepped into a recording studio. This all-accompanied collection of 14 upbeat, jazzy tunes starts out fast with Jimmy Van Heusen' "Darn that Dream," group member Peter Eldridge's "The World Keeps You Waiting" and a smoky, bluenote cover of Alan Jay Lerner's "On A Clear Day." Then we're treated to some sweet covers of Lewis & Coots' "For All We Know," Duke Ellington's "Love You Madly," Stevie Wonder's "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing," John Coltrane's beautiful "Noticing the Moment (Moments Notice") and the wonderful, scattish, manic "Jackie" with lyrics by Annie Ross. One last favorite is a delightfully fresh and simple arrangement of Laura Nyro's "Stoned Soul Picnic." Every cut here, in fact, is a joy - the Voices have a sophisticated, effortlessly clean sound that surprises and entertains. It was worth the long wait for A Day Like This!" Songlist: Darn That Dream, The World Keeps You Waiting, In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning, On A Clear Day, For All We Know, Love You Medley, As We Live and Breathe, No Moon At All, Chamego (Betty's Bossa), Noticing the Moment, Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing, Stoned Soul Picnic, A Day Like This, Jackie Realtime : Take 5 Based in Vancouver, Canada and Bellingham, WA, a very talented pair of brothers, Tim & Doug Broersma and Mark & Tom Metzger, form four part a cappella quartet Realtime, who have been singing together since 2003. They quickly placed 2nd in the Harmony Sweeps Pacific Northwest Regional in 2004, then they became the 2005 International Quartet Champions of the Barbershop Harmony Society in Salt Lake City! Having reached the pinnacle of the barbershop world, they stopped competing in Barbershop contests. However, they continued to compete in the Harmony Sweeps, winning the Pacific Northwest again in 2007, and again in 2010, where this supergroup is an early favorite to win the upcoming National Finals May 15th! Listening to their jazzy, wonderfully arranged rendition of Dave Brubeck's jazz standard "Take 5" underlines the group's determination to "sing and record music of many styles, whatever (we) decide we like!" What Realtime likes includes 13 diverse selections, Lennon/McCartney's pop hits "With A Little Help From My Friends" and "Blackbird," "Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz, the Tennessee country anthem "Rocky Top," The show tune "On A Clear Day" (You Can See Forever), the scattish jazz favorite "Flight of the Foo Birds," the haunting spiritual "Follow the Drinking Gourd," and the Doobie Brothers' foot-tapping rocker "Listen to the Music." The last two cuts, "Funny Valentine" and "Georgia On My Mind," are harmoniously performed with the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra. "Take 5" is great stuff, the rock-solid harmonies and pure entertainment chops of this gold-medal-winning Barbershop group, joyously applied to some of our favorite tunes in other genres. Listening to it, we can't wait to hear Realtime at the Finals! Songlist: Take Five, With A Little Help From My Friends, Over the Rainbow, Rocky Top, Blackbird, On A Clear Day, Beautiful Love, Little Boy Lost, Flight of the Foo Birds, Follow the Drinking Gourd, Listen to the Music, Funny Valentine, Georgia On My Mind Sarah Vaughan : Great Women Singers of the 20th Century This 1985 concert by jazz vocalist Sarah Vaughn features such jazz songs as Poor Butterfly and East of the Sun. Here's a stunningly beautiful arrangement of the classic Broadway ballad. Steve Zegree's a cappella jazz voicings are breathtaking!
Arranger: Steve Zegree | Composer: Burton Lane | Lyricist: Alan Jay Lerner | Musical: On a Clear Day You Can See Forever
Recorded by New York Voices on their album A Day Like This, this contemporary swing arrangement offers superb, challenging vocal jazz writing.
Arranger: Darmon Meader | Composer: Burton Lane | Lyricist: Alan Jay Lerner Performed By: New York Voices | Musical: On a Clear Day You Can See Forever
Kirby Shaw's samba treatment of this stage and screen standard is truly unique! Despite the brisk tempo, held notes lock in tight vocal jazz chords, and a few staggered entrances provide textural interest. After a signature add-on stacks the voices into three independent layers, the arrangement clears the way for a syncopated scat riff at the end of the coda. SoundPax includes four horns and rhythm.
