My Prayer" is a 1939 popular song with music by salon violinist Georges Boulanger and lyrics by Carlos Gomez Barrera and Jimmy Kennedy. It was originally written by Boulanger with the title Avant de mourir (Before dying) 1926. The lyrics for this version were added by Kennedy in 1939. Glenn Miller recorded the song that year for a number two hit and The Ink Spots' version featuring Bill Kenny reached number three, as well, that year. It has been recorded many times since, but the biggest hit version was a doo-wop rendition in 1956 by The Platters, whose single release reached number one on the Billboard Top 100 in the summer, and ranked four for the year.

Bob Chilcott : Sacred Choral Selections The beautiful eight-part setting of 'My Prayer' starts out with a beautiful alto duet. This challenging piece is a joy to perform and to hear. 'Pray that Jerusalem may have peace' is a Scottish Psalter that was commisioned to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the consecration of Glenalmond College Chapel. The multiple key and tempo changes make this a challenging but exciting piece to perform. The text in 'God so loved the world' comes from John 3:16. The soprano solo adds a beautiful descant to this touching piece. 'Even Such Is Time' comes from the text by Sir Walter Raleight. The piece starts out with soft, but expressive, four-part harmonies. Half way through the song, the men's parts divisi. The soprano solo at the end adds a great finish. George Herber's text in 'Even-Song' is brought to life with gorgeous harmonies and yet another sweet soprano solo. Songlist: My Prayer, Pray That Jerusalem May Have Peace, God So Loved The World, Even Such Is Time, Even-Song The Platters : The Platters Anthology A wonderful collection of 20 songs from this classic R&B group. Includes photos and biographical information. Songlist: Enchanted, The Great Pretender, He's Mine, Helpless, I Wish, It's Raining Outside, It's Raining Outside, My Dream, My Prayer, On My Word Of Honor, One In A Million, Only Because, Only You (And You Alone), Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Twilight Time, Where, With This Ring, You'll Never, Never Know, You're Making A Mistake Sing With The Choir : The 1950's This great new series lets you sing some of the most-loved songs of all time as part of a fantastic professional choir! The 9 x 12 book includes complete SATB parts, and the CD features full performances. Just open the songbook, pick your part, play the CD, and then sing along! This volume features 8 great '50s favorites. Songlist: At The Hop, The Great Pretender, Kansas City, La Bamba, Love Me Tender, My Prayer, Rock Around The Clock, Unchained Melody Alti & Bassi : Medley Alti & Bassi are five debonair-looking, fun-and-Western-music-loving Italian men whose "Medley" is exactly that, a 32-song medley. Or more correctly, a medley comprised of seven medleys, beginning with 8 heavily-accented Disney chestnuts ("Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf," "Heigh Ho," Bibbidi Bobbity Bu" and others); a masterful 4-song Platters medley ("My Prayer," "Sixteen Tons," "Only You" and "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"); a jazzy "West Side Story" medley ("Maria," "Tonight" and an apropos "America"); an "I Love America" Broadway medley ("Singin' In The Rain," "Cheek To Cheek," "Night and Day" and "New York, New York"); a seven song Beatles medley "A&B Road" ("Abbey Road," get it? It includes "Sgt. Pepper's," "If I Fell," "Norwegian Wood," "Help," "All You Need Is Love" and other favorites); a "Canto Libero" medley of Italian favorites ("Fiori Rosa Fiori Di Pesco," "Il Mio Canto Libero" and "Con Il Nastro Rosa") and finally the "A&B G's" medley (The Bee Gees of course, "(Saturday) Night Fever," "How Deep Is Your Love" and "Stayin' Alive"). These guys have loved and listened to a lot of records, cassette tapes and CDs to sound as much like these groups as they do. We love all this music, too, and Andrea, Alberto, Paolo, Diego and Filippo have the a cappella chops to do it justice. Listen to the yummy bass lead on "Sixteen Tons" (which we seem to remember as a Tennessee Ernie Ford hit, rather than the Platters, but no matter), and to the falsetto lead on "Saturday Night Fever"-these guys may come across as somewhat silly at times (we prefer "fun-loving") but they can really sing, and they give us a sweet taste of 32 wonderful songs here. Which we think you will enjoy, as we did! Songlist: Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf, Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes, Heigh Ho, A Spoonful of Sugar, The Bare Necessities, One Song, Bibbidi Bobbidi Bu, Everybody Wants To Be a Cat, My Prayer, Sixteen Tons, Only You (And You Alone), Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, Maria, Tonight, America, Singin' In The Rain, Cheek to Cheek, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Fiori Rosa Fiori Di Pesco, Il Mio Canto Libero, Night Fever, How Deep is Your Love, Stayin' Alive BBC Singers : Man I Sing - Choral Music by Bob Chilcott The world-renowned choral composer and conductor Bob Chilcott leads the BBC Singers, as well as the internationally recognised soloists Simone Rebello and Paul Silverthorne, in these new performances of some of his best and most loved choral works. The choir is renowned as an expert ensemble and here they sing splendidly under Chilcott's direction. The selection of music on this disc has been well made to give a good variety of perspectives on Bob Chilcott's choral output - a resourceful composer and one who writes exceptionally well for voices and he is superbly served here by the virtuosity of the BBC Singers. This is a glorious showcase of one of the finest choral composers at work in Britain today. Songlist: The Skin, The Barrel of the Drum, The Two Curved Sticks of the Drummer, Gourds and Rattles, The Gong - Gong, My Prayer, O sapientia, O Adonai, O Radix Jesse, O Clavis David, O Oriens, O Rex Gentium, O Emmanuel, The Shepherd's Carol, And Every Stone Shall Cry, Pange Lingua, The Runner, The Last Invocation, One's - Self I Sing, Beach, Simple Pictures of Tomorrow, Weather Report BQE : Acappella Starlight Sessions "BQE, originated in the early 1980's as a NYC quintet with 3 members from Brooklyn, and two from Queens. The named initials BQE actually stood for The Brooklyn Queens Express and not the notorious Expressway, as most believed. The Group recorded on eight compilation CD's for Bob Kretzschmar's "Starlight Serenade" Label, A Best Of BQE CD for Collectables and The Clifton Music Compilation CD "Christmas In Harmony" for Ronnie Italiano's "Clifton Music" label. It was the BQE cut of "Count Down To Love" that was picked by "Rhino" records to go on the A cappella Disc of the 4 CD "DooWop Vol 3" BoxÊSet. The group was a premier vocal group of its time, as stated in The Jay Warner "Billboard's Book Of American Singing groups, the 1940's through the 1990's". Pictured above from Left to Right: Jerry Pilgrim, Dennis Kestenbaum, Jason Levine, Les Levine (seated) Songlist: Be Sure My Love, Pretty Little Angel Eyes, Sherry, The Wanderer, I Love You, My Prayer, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, Countdown To Love, What Time Is It?, Tonight I Fell In Love, Chain Gang / Cupid, Tonight Could Be The Night, Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart, I Count The Tears, Teardrops, Have You Heard, Naturally, Please Be My Girlfriend, The Way You Do The Things You Do, The Lion Sleeps Tonight Ink Spots : 20th Century Masters Along with the Mills Bros, the Ink Spots were the most popular black vocal group of the 1930's and 40's, though their careers spanned such duration, that groups are still performing under the Ink Spots name. Their trademark style, with a buttery tenor vibrato over spoken interludes by the bass vocalist, and elegant yet understated accompaniment, generated a spate of hits, including their first big chart appearance with "If I Didn't Care" in 1939. Having found their niche, a series of similarly-produced songs, including "The Gypsy," "Java Jive," "I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire" and "Prisoner of Love," capitalized on the record-buying public's attention. Though there were many subsequent personnel changes, the group sustained both artistic quality and popular success, and no music collection is complete without the Ink Spots. Songlist: If I Didn't Care, My Prayer, Java Jive, I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire, Don't Get Around Much Anymore, I'll Get By (As Long As I Have You), I'm Making Believe, Into Each Life Some Rain Will Fall, The Gypsy, I'm Beginning to See the Light, Prisoner of Love, To Each His Own Nordic Chamber Choir : Bob Chilcott - Choral Works Born in 1955, Bob Chilcott has a fast-growing reputation as one of Britain's most popular and accessible composers of choral music. Bob Chilcott has been involved in choral music for most of his life, as a boy chorister and choral scholar at King's College, Cambridge, and as a member of the vocal group The King's Singers for twelve years. Over the past seven years he has poured his energy into the amateur choir world as a composer, conductor and choral clinician, with an emphasis on work with and for young singers. Chilcott has contributed a growing body of work to the repertoire of adult and children's choirs. As reflected in Canticles of Light, Chilcott's gifts are not limited to writing for adults, and he has gained an international reputation for his work with, and compositions for, children and young people. His song with sign language, 'Can you hear me? has become one of the most widely-performed pieces in the children's choir world and in March 2001 Chilcott himself conducted a performance sung by 2000 children at The World of Children's Choirs Festival in Vancouver, Canada. Bob Chilcott continues to be in great demand as a conductor and workshop leader worldwide. As a conductor Bob has worked extensively with choirs and festivals throughout the world. For seven years he was conductor of the 200-voice Chorus at the Royal College of Music in London. He is Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Singers, with whom he works regularly in studio recordings and concerts. He has also guest conducted the RIAS Kammerchor in Berlin, and the Elmer Iseler Singers in Toronto. Songlist: Come buy, The flower of Cities all, London bells, Composed upon Westminster Bridge, Sept. 3, 1802, Good morrow, The Skin, The Barrel of the Drum, The Two Curved Sticks of the Drummer, Gourds and Rattles, The Gong-Gong, The Runner, Canticles of Light, My Prayer, The Sheperd's Carol, God so loved the world, For him all stars have shone, And So It Goes Pilgrim Travellers : Walking Rhythm Founded in the early 1930s in Houston during the early 1930s by Joe Johnson and the Davis brothers, the Pilgrims had moved to Los Angeles by 1942, adding two cousins, Kylo Turner and Keith Barber. Between 1947 and 1956, they recorded over a hundred sides for Specialty Records and developed a choreographed, dynamic road show that blew away the competition. There are 29 a cappella spirituals here, from "What Are They Doing (My Lord)," "Good News," the Gospel Boogie "Everybody's Gonna Have A Wonderful Time Up There" and "Nothing Can Change Me (Since I Found The Lord)" to "My Eternal Home," "Footprints of Jesus," "Welcome Home" and "Angels Tell Mother." It's all wonderful, feel good Gospel, some of the best and most authentic we've heard. At the end is a touching plug for Gospel radio station WDIA. "Walking" is a joy! Highly Recommended. Songlist: What Are They Doing (My Lord), Stretch Out, My Prayer, Good News, Dig A Little Deeper, Everybody's Gonna Have A Wonderful Time Up There (Gospel Boogie), Nothing Can Change Me (Since I Found The Lord), Jesus, Thank You Jesus, What A Friend We Have In Jesus, It's A Blessing, Not A One, He's Pleading In Glory, Jesus Gave Me Water, Jesus, He's The One, King Jesus Will Roll All Burdens Away, My Eternal Home, Pass Me Not Oh Gentle Savior, Footprints of Jesus, When I Join The Jubilee, Call Him By His Name, Welcome Home, My Road's So Rough And Rocky, I Love The Lord, Deliver Me From Evil, Jesus Is The First Line Of Defense, Peace Of Mind, Angels Tell Mother, WDIA Radio Station Plug The Platters : All-Time Greatest Hits The Platters, 4-man, 1-woman followed of black vocal harmony groups like the Ink Spots and the Mills Brothers, ushering in a new age of contemporary pop and R&B. The group grew up in the thriving music scene of Los Angeles in the early 1950s, first signing with Federal records, and then joining fellow Federal artists the Penguins (who had a national hit with "Earth Angel"), signed by Chicago-based Mercury Records. Their first recording, "Only You," didn't get a lot of attention until a Seattle DJ played it, eventually turning it into a national hit. "The Great Pretender" was a #1 smash, "The Magic Touch" was a top five it, but their next recording, of British songwriter Jimmy Kennedy's "My Prayer" became the group's biggest hit. Rock 'n' Roll-styled "Out of My Mind" and one other song were scheduled for the Platters to perform on Dick Clark's Saturday night TV show, who heard "Twilight Time" over the phone and said, "That's the hit!" It was the first record of the rock 'n' roll era to feature strings. "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes," "Harbor Lights," "With This Ring"-18 all-accompanied winners by one of the most exciting and popular vocal groups of all time! Beautiful liner notes with history and pictures of the group. Songlist: Only You (And You Alone), The Great Pretender, (You've Got) The Magic Touch, My Prayer, Heaven On Earth, You'll Never Never Know, It Isn't Right, On My Word Of Honor, One In A Million, I'm Sorry, He's Mine, My Dream, Twilight Time, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Enchanted, Harbor Lights, I Love You 1000 Times With This Ring The Platters : Best of - 20th Century Masters The Platters' rise into R&B/Rock 'n' Roll stardom began in Los Angeles, and two of its members had a lot to do with their meteoric rise, angel-voiced Tony Williams and manager Buck Ram. Tony's emotion-drenched voice made prayers and the longings of lovers so believable, and the precision and clarity of his delivery was pure pop gold. Ram agreed to let Mercury Records sign his hit group the Penguins if they'd also sign the Platters. Although the label first marketed the group on its purple "race" label, Ram convinced them to release it on their black "pop" label. The kids, just having discovered Elvis and Bill Haley, who heard the big hits "Only You" and "The Great Pretender" wanted to see who was singing them, and were surprised to see the suave, smooth black quintet. Thus the first number one pop record for a black group made its way up the charts. 11 classic winners, all accompanied, "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes," "The Magic Touch," "Harbor Lights," "You'll Never, Never Know," "Red Sails in the Sunset" and "Enchanted"-this is all incredible stuff from the legendary Platters! Songlist: The Great Pretender, Twilight Time, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Only You (And You Alone), You'll Never Never Know, My Prayer, (You've Got) The Magic Touch, I'll Never Smile Again, Harbor Lights, Red Sails In The Sunset, Enchanted St. Petersburg Chamber Choir : Russian Easter The St. Petersburg Chamber Choir and their director, Nikolai Korniev, show off subbasement basses, soaring sopranos and a rich, well-blended sound in "Russian Easter," a group of eleven settings for Easter worship by Alexander Grechaninov, Dmitri Bortnyansky and other masters of Russian church music. The compositions were written variously from the 18th century through the present, but all stay true to the spirit and aesthetic of the Orthodox tradition. Those who find plainchant a little on the monotonous side but are still looking for a spiritual element in music will find much to admire and enjoy in these beautifully sung presentations. Songlist: Alleluia Behold The Bridegroom, Gentle Light, Of Thy Mystical Supper, The Wise Thief, Let All Moral Flesh Keep Silent, In The Flesh Thou Didst Fall Asleep, The Paschal Hours, Paschal Hymn To The Virgin, To Day All Creation, Come O People, Give Ear To, My Prayer Various Artists : Best Of Acappella Vol 4 By the time volume 4 was produced, even though it was still 1966, the sales of acappella were beginning to fall off but there was still enough interest to do just one more for people who loved the music. This recording was different in that there are the first two all girl acappella groups, ever. We mean girl groups. Ginger And The: Adorables, from West Orange, NJ, had three sixteen year old and two fourteen year old girls! The other all girl group was the Rondells. Little Joe and The Majestics could barely speak English and became the first recorded acappella in Spanish. There was another departure from the previous albums and that was a barbershop harmony song by the Notations. We're talking radical departure. This is the end of the beginning of the great Relic Records. They promoted a Vol 5 in these album notes but there is no evidence it was ever produced. Aah, the good old days! Songlist: The White Cliffs Of Dover, Laura My Darling, Lost Love, He's Gone, Everyday Of The Week, I'll Be Home, Merry Go Round Love, Ave Maria, I Remember, For Your Precious Love, Walking In The Rain, I'm So Young, Spiral, My Prayer, A Story Of Love, I Hear The Wind, I'll Never Let You Go, Kentucky Babe, Why You Do Me Like You Do, Summer Nights |

Poet Stephen Bock authors a text of contrasts - Make me weak so that I must lean on Your strength... blind to see with Your vision - reminding us that our full reliance is on God. To this prayer, composer Richard Burchard paints in the musical colors and in warm and engaging lines, for which he is known. Accompanied by piano and a rich cello part, this is a beautiful anthem for almost any time of year. Medium.
