This is a nice, simple treatment of the Van Morrison favorite "Moondance". A solo in the second tenor range is true to the melody with some interesting chord subsititutions in the harmony parts. Beginning with a duet between solo and bass, there is plenty of room for some subtle, improvised vocal percussion from the other two voices. A bass part that doesn't get too low makes this a great choice for a young male quartet. An easy, yet effective arrangement of the all time Rodgers and Hart ballad "You Are Too Beautiful", that gives your men's section a chance to really shine! Here's a snappy, toe-tapping rendition of " Let's Get Away From It All". It starts right in on the chorus and cruises along to a big ending. Straight-ahead, very fun to sing, and makes a great show opener. "I've Got A Crush On You" starts with a rubato introduction into a slow-ish swing groove for the chorus. The verse is in the middle and is sung rubato with "oo's" behind the lead. Back to tempo second time around with a half-step modulation into the last'A' with a ritard into the ending.

The 2006 Harmony Sweeps Regional Champs and Audience Favorite from NYC, 'Round Midnight placed well in their first BHS International Competition in Anaheim, CA. Jeff, Wayne , T.J. and Larry bring us their first, self-titled CD of 10 tunes. Only 15 months old as a group, Key of She's six women singers are anything but shy about jumping into the a cappella scene! "Our First Time" is their self-produced debut, limited-run CD, and if it lacks at all in studio polish, it more than makes it up in spirit and the group's sheer love of singing a cappella together. ManSound, an a cappella sextet from Kiev, Ukraine, got its start in 1994 as an idea of composer and arranger Vladimir Mikhnovetsky. The group consists of experienced professionals and it is a permanent participant of international jazz festivals and concerts. First building a Russian fan base with concerts and appearances at jazz festivals in Moscow and other cities, ManSound began touring in 1996, when the group traveled to the United States for six weeks, performing with great success in universities and evangelical churches. In February of 2000, ManSound performed at one of the biggest jazz events in the USA, the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, following the invitation of Lionel Hampton himself. They also performed in 2002 and 2003, delighting crowds of 5000 at the nightly performances. Dr. Lynn Skinner, director of The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, called ManSound the hit of the jazz event. "Magic" has only 7 songs, but 3 are marvelous medleys, two of them of George Benson's songs and one of Stevie Wonder tunes. Besides these favorites, "They Can't Take That Away From Me," "Nature Boy," "Lullaby of Birdland and "Angel Eyes" are standouts-which includes everything on the CD. Tremendous voice control, incredible arrangements, butter-smooth blue-note harmonies, surprising tempo changes and scat breaks-it adds up to a stunning first CD by a huge, fast-rising talent in the jazz/a cappella world!

In this live CD Marcoux (Mahr-coo) Corner, their 3rd, prove that yes, in fact, more than one outstanding male Contemporary quartet hails from the home of the Blenders, Fargo, ND. 12 well-chosen pop cover, with funny banter segues and interactions with the audience - all adds up to big fun! Lennon/McCartney's "Ob, La, Di," "M.T.A.," "You're Sixteen," the Monkees' "I'm A Believer," the completely silly "Dolphin Boy," "One Fine Day," Jimmy Buffet's "Margaritaville," the manic, tongue-twisting "Johnny Saucepan," "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," Van Morrison's "Moondance" and "The Sunshine Medley" are all wonderful. It's the next best thing to being in the audience for this very funny, highly entertaining show.

'Discovery' is the inaugural CD of Max Q, a newly-formed barbershop quartet, but the subject of considerable SPEBSQSA buzz because of the amazing pedigree of the group's members. Baritone Gary Lewis was a collegiate SPEBS champion prior to winning Gold with Platinum. Tenor Greg Clancy is Associate Director, and 26-year member of the Vocal Majority. Lead Tony De Rosa and bass Jeff Oxley are two of only 13 men who have won SPEBSQSA quartet Gold twice, De Rosa with Keepsake and Platinum, Oxley with Rapscallions and Acoustix. From the first strains of 'Smile Medley,' the opening cut, the sheer vocal and harmonic power of these men is obvious, as is the quality of their arrangements. 13 tunes, some of our favorites are 'If I Had My Way,' a jazzy, blue-note rendition of Van Morrison's 'Moondance,' an intricate 'Shenandoah,' 'When My Sugar Walks Down The Street,' 'Where Is Love,' the spiritual 'Shadrack,' Tony's soaring lead on 'Fare Thee Well, Love.' 'You Tell Me Your Dream,' and a powerful 'Sing, Sing, Sing.' Joe Connelly is the only man ever to have won an amazing 3 quartet Golds, but we wouldn't be at all surprised to see De Rosa and Oxley of the new Supergroup Max Q join him at the next Internationals. Our 'Discovery?' Max Q has a truckload of talent and they know how to use it!

This contemporary/jazz quartet is from Florida, where they are part of the Disney entertainment complex (performing as "Four For A Dollar"). With arrangements by members Doug Teel and Marshall Webb, their material is proven Top 40 radio fare such as "Fly Like An Eagle," "How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You" and "Turn Your Love Around," with a couple of originals in like vein. That said, the highlight of this CD is Gene Puerling's "Georgia On My Mind," the definitive arrangement, performed with stunning accuracy and taste. Their own charts frequently use substitute chords and unexpected harmonies to open up these familiar songs, infusing them with new vitality. Rhythmically, they combine punch with fluid ease, adding a soulful feel to the mix.

Voce : So Many Ways   

Five music professionals from Edmonton, Alberta are classically trained members of Voce (pronounced Voh-che). They formed in 1993 to be able to share their interpretations of popular music from the tweedeledee of "Rockin' Robin" through a "Rocky Mountain High" which has "Rivers Of Dreams" flowing through it like "Tears In Heaven". Jazz, tight harmonies that take on a close harmony sound, almost, and touches of classical music are all incorporated in the covers found in the midst of three sweet original tunes, the title track "So Many Ways" and two spirit movers "The Light" and "Gift Of Song."
