An Octave Above : Come on and Take a Sleigh Ride!   

"Sleigh Ride" is the second release from talented mixed-voice (4 men, 4 women) a cappella octet An Octave Above, who were 1st runner-up at the 2005 Chicago Harmony Sweeps Regionals. Since then they have been delighting audiences with their dynamic live show, which they perform over 250 times a year, and with top-drawer recordings such as "Ball In The House," "Think About It" and "Granite Ave," all popular titles in the PAC catalog. "Believe" is a masterful Christmas album with the magic words below the 12-cut songlist: "All sounds on this album were created by the human voice!" The Buzz are a Sweet Adeline supergroup! These four former Queens of Harmony have come together to create a powerhouse of sound. Brian, Nate, Brad, Nathaniel, Mike and Nate are five-man a cappella band from Branson, MO who entered the national spotlight in 2005 when they placed in the top 10 while performing their Oreo Cookie Jingle for Randy Jackson. Since then they have been touring the world, and now perform over 200 shows per year in Branson and throughout the U.S. They have been seen on multiple TV shows, cruise ships and performing arts centers around the world, and were recently picked to compete on NBC's The Sing-Off! "Purrfect..." is the group's first Christmas CD of 12 tunes. Favorites are a crazed, manic, very fun "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," a very silly "The Chipmunk Song" with perfect imitations of Alvin, Simon and Theodore; a jazzy, chord-bending, very Motown arrangement of "Silver Bells;" a mellow "White Christmas, Part 1 and jazzy, finger-popping, doo-woppy "White Christmas, Part 2; a powerful, sweet take on "Mary Did You Know," "Mustang Santa" is a big fun, soulful romp, and, after that, the incongruous but hauntingly lovely "In the Bleak Mid Winter" features guest tenor George Dyer. The Gas House Gang : Some Children See Him...   

TWO YEARS IN THE MAKING!!! Perfection achieved!! Enough hyperbole already, you think to yourself? Not a chance...where's the thesaurus. Ok, we'll rein in our enthusiasm and resort to merely telling you about a Christmas album sung by one of the greatest barbershop quartets of our time. On this recording we listen to a quartet who achieves the tightest harmonies humanly possible apply those talents to traditional Christmas music. It's funny but as they aren't specifically singing barbershop chording, it is only occasionally that we remember just what tradition this fabulous singing springs from. Touches of jazz, elements of gospel reverence, and moments of almost operatic virtuosity abound throughout and all come together with vocal percussionist Jeff Thatcher of Rockapella adding his talents on "Go Tell It On the Mountain." We were also struck momentarily speechless when we found that, for the first time in quite a while, we actually enjoyed "The Little Drummer Boy" once more. The Gang rescues that song from the Christmas cul-de-sac of fruit-cake jokes with a beautiful rendition. What a tenor lead! You'll hear a fabulous Gregorianesque intro to "O Come Emanuel" which sounds as though it is emerging from a heavenly cathedral. The song list meanders through all of the Christmas spirit to arrive at the title track, "Some Children See Him." This is a wonderful message on which to leave, each child who sees Christ, sees Him in their own image...

Noel!', augmented by a refrain played on recorder, and a lively renaissance country-dance rhythm, is joyful and festive. Each Haven member's voice possesses an attractive brilliance of tone, and the four voices together have an exceptional depth.

Actually a pair of married couples, these four friends have been making beautiful music together for decades, and it shows. This fun-loving group of over 130 women, the oldest active competing chorus in Sweet Adelines, who have ranked in the top ten each time they have competed in International competition, bring us a lovely Christmas album. There several well-known carols and popular songs among these 12 songs, like "White Christmas," a funny shopping-related parody of "Jingle Bells" appropriately called "Jingle All The Way," "Have a Holly, Jolly Christmas," "Carol Of The Bells," "Pretty Little Jesus," "Go Tell It On The Mountain," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "Mary Did You Know." The KCC joins with the Children's Chorus to sing a very fine "Peace, Peace/Silent Night" medley. There are also some very nice songs that are new to us, a narrated song that tells the story of the "Little Gray Donkey," the beautiful "When a Child is Born" and "Christmas Was Meant for Children." "Have Yourself A Kansas City Christmas" is a fun, spirited Christmas Winner from the KCC!

Coppell, Texas-based mixed Christian barbershop quartet (2 men and two women) Kindred Spirits bring us eight finely-crafted Christmas tunes: "Fum, Fum Fum," "I Wonder What You're Doing for Christmas," the sweet, soulful "What Can I Give Him," the inspirational "I Have Been Revived," "Mary Did You Know?", "It Is Well With My Soul," "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" and "Auld Lang Syne." Kindred Spirits sings with a lot of warmth, and there are a lot of wonderful harmonies in this CD-and good feeling for the blessed event that is the true reason we celebrate Christmas.

In the world of Gospel music we are mostly familiar with quartets and quintets singing four part harmony or the full choir recordings which can be found fairly readily. The Master's Men have created a unique niche. In the world of barbershop you have the quartets and then the barbershop chorus. Now we have a wonderful men's Gospel chorus, which like their barbershop counterparts, sing in the four part harmonies of the traditional smaller group but with eighteen voices rather than the 'quartet's' four or five. Now our analogy breaks down for not only do you find four part harmony, but the chorus expands beyond the traditional limitations and sing five and even six part harmonies. Their inspiration to song has been fostered by the fact that all these men live in central North Carolina, a central repository of old mountain gospel, old Southern gospel, and old traditional hymns. Add to that base their love of newer inspirational work and you have a recording in which you will find solemn, reflective, and exuberant messages of inspiration. (For those who happen have radio shows you will find a joyous version of 'Turn Your Radio On.') The Master's Men were formed in August of 1995 with a stated goal to 'provide inspirational music for the glory of God, which will enhance Christian church worship services and other programs.' Because each of the men has his own church work, family, and location they are only able to perform once or twice a month, yet they have performed in most of central North Carolina's churches.The director of this unique group of wonderful singers is Mr. Rudy Partin who also creates most of the arrangements. If you wish to hear a fresh inspiration, here it is.

What a treat! Two gold-medal winning choruses on one CD. As both choruses are based in the LA area they decided to join up and record a CD together so we have The Masters of Harmony and the Westminster Chorus taking turns singing some great barbershop music. These sixteen tracks show exactly why these are two of the top male choruses of the day with a powerful yet refined sound that clearly demonstrate the talent of the singers and the respective directors. Mesa, AZ's own all-male sextet MC6 brings us a sweet and upbeat Doo-Wop holiday CD of 11 songs, entitled "Christmas." "Away in a Manger" is reinvented as a finger-popping Doo-Wop standard with soaring leads, "Candlesong" is a romantic holiday torch tune perfect for slow dancing, and "Feliz Navidad" and "Sleigh Ride" are spirited, richly harmonic covers. Other favorites are "White Christmas," which channels Bing Crosby's droll, chocolaty baritone and sparkling tenor backup, "Let It Snow" is as bright and romantic as a yule log on the fire, and we hardly recognized, but enjoyed the new arrangement of "Silent Night." "Away in a Manger" is richly harmonic and traditionally beautiful, "Mary Did You Know" is nicely arranged and thought-provoking, and "He is Born" closes the collection with an inspiring, harmonic gem. "Wrapped" is a generous Christmas album, featuring three original tunes by Chorus members, "You're All I Want For Christmas," "Hush Little Children, Do," and "Christmas Shopping Blues." Included are guest appearances by Rumors, Rhythmix, Kindred Spirits, The Gina Williams Trio and The Texas Girl Choir. There are 16 tunes, familiar songs like "Sing We Noel," "Patapan," "Happy Holidays," "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town," "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," "Feast of Lights," "Joy to the World" and "Auld Lang Syne," And lesser known ones like "Old Man's Back In Town," "Jingle Bell Jazz," "Mary Did You Know," "One Small Child" and the hilarious (if in questionable taste) "Pretty Dolly." The Ambassadors of Harmony is a chorus committed to both musical and performing excellence. In July of 2009, under the direction of Jim Henry, they won the International Chorus Championship held in Anaheim California, achieving the highest score ever recorded. This was their second championship win, reclaiming the title they had previously earned in 2004. Now, they are pleased to share with you a video presentation of Sounds of the Season 2009.
