Deke Sharon : Men's Popular Jazz Vol 2 "Cecilia" - This playful Simon and Garfunkle standard is perfect for a cappella with the tenors sharing the original's harmony. Bass and bari weave counter melodies and driving background parts built entirely around the lyrics. No vocal percussion necessary - lots of rhythmic intensity built into the background parts. One of the most popular and requested male arrangements originally sung by the Beelzebubs of Tufts University. "I Can't Tell You Why" - A lush, delicately textured rendering of the Eagles classic. A high tenor solo floats above a sextet of light overlapping lines and a rich bass line, forming a warm bed of sound not unlike a synthesizer or string section. Perfect for a talented octet, or a male chorus. "I Only Have Eyes for You" - This 60's classic made famous by the Flamingos, and then later recorded by Art Garfunkle, is one of the best loved doo-wop tunes of all time. This version maintains the doo-wop styling during the verse and shifts into a rich, close harmony ballad in the chorus. "Rock The Boat" - One of the most infectiously catchy pop/R & B songs to come out of the 70's (made popular by "The Hues Corporation"), this arrangement will make your singers want to get up and dance. Very melodic background lines, plenty of syncopation. Vocal percussion optional. Their repertoire includes 5 decades of popular music: 40's Swing, 50's Rock and Roll, 60's and 70's R&B and 80's and 90's Pop. "Doo Wop Gold," their fifth excellent CD, includes 12 classic, beautifully-arranged Doo Wop hits that would certainly rank in our top 20 of all time: "Remember When/I Wonder Why," "Sh-Boom," "I Only Have Eyes For You," "Blue Moon," "Rockin' Robin," "Come Go With Me," "Lonely Teardrops," "In The Still Of The Night," "Morse Code Of Love," "Get A Job" and "Trickle Trickle;" finishing with a tasty "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." Consummate entertainers whether they are performing their award-winning show at a family concert, large scale music festival or corporate party, "Gold" is ample proof that the Allstars are still one of the best Doo Wop groups we've ever had the pleasure to hear. Songlist: Remember Then - I Wonder Why, Sh-Boom, I Only Have Eyes for You, Blue Moon, Rockin' Robin, Come Go With Me, Lonely Teardrops, In the Still of the Night, Morse Code of Love, Get A Job, Trickle Trickle, The Lion Sleeps Tonight Barbershop Harmony Society : Top Quartets 2005 We have the 2005 collection of The Barbershop Society international competition winners, featuring Gold medalists Realtime's "Story Of The Rose" and "Cry Me A River," Silver medalists Max Q's "This Little Piggie Went To Market" and "Steppin' Out With My Baby," and Bronze medalists (and Sweeps winners) Metropolis' "I Only Have Eyes for You" and "Love/Eyes (Medley)." From the Chicago neighborhood to the local black Jewish 'Church of God and Saints,' where they lived, worshipped and hung out, the young conglomeration practiced and performed (changing lead singers on the way) and subsequently were able to secure a deal with Chance Records. This was the first of many labels, including Parrot, Checker, Decca and End, for whom the group recorded, and certainly the Flamingos suffered through as much ignominy as any group could: non-payment of royalties, original compositions attributed to other writers, litigation, and the 'cover' phenomena, whereby a white artist would record a hit by a black group, and make off with the sales. (Pat Boone was a notorious raider.) Nonetheless, history was kinder, and the Flamingos have since been recognized as the innovators they are. Songlist: That's My Desire, Golden Teardrops, Jump Children, Dream Of A Lifetime, Ko Ko Mo, I'll Be Home, A Kiss From Your Lips, The Vow, The Ladder Of Love, Lovers Never Say Goodbye, I Only Have Eyes For You, Mio Amore, Nobody Loves Me Like You, Your Other Love, If I Can't Have You, Love Walked In, Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight, This Was Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians : Sentimental Journey Called "the man who taught America how to sing" Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians were a fixture on radio in the '40's and '50's and these 23 songs were recorded in 1949 and 1950 when at the height of their popularity. The group, including the instrumentalists, was over 50 members strong and sing beautifully some of the classic songs from the era. The arrangements were from some of the top choral arrangers in the country such as Roy Ringwold and Harry Simeone. A great trip down memory lane. Songlist: I Hear Music, I Feel A Song Comin' On, Sentimental Journey, Here I'll Stay, Country Style, Someone to Watch Over Me, I Can't Give You Anything but Love, Japanese Sandman, Moonlight and Roses, Runnin' Wild, April Showers, The Continental, Somebody Loves Me, Ballynure Ballad, Temptation, Ain't Misbehavin, It's Only A Paper Moon, I Only Have Eyes for You, Riders in the Sky, Hit the Road to Dreamland, Roumanian Rhapsody, What Makes the Sunset, Sleep Growing Girls : All Grown Up The popularity of these four charming Swedish ladies remains unabated, though it's been over a decade since they won the Sweet Adelines crown. "All Grown Up" opens with a snippet from their first rehearsal, in 1979, when the four first began singing together. They were girls then, as the picture on the CD will prove, and that auspicious occasion led to a lifetime engagement! The interpretive skills, range and timbre that characterize their sound are partly learned, but also due in part to lucky happenstance - the kind that occurs when four voices complement each other, resulting in a lusciously full representation of the audio palette! This rainbow is at its most dazzling on "The Man I Love," "Deed I Do" and "Where Is Love," combining talent with arrangements tailor-made to show it at its best. Songlist: Do Lord, This Could Be The Start Of Something Big, If You Had All The World And It's Gold, Anything Goes, I Only Have Eyes For You, Goodbye Goodbye, The Man I Love, For Once in My Life, The Churchbells Are Ringing For Mary, Deed I Do, Where Is Love?, 60's Medley, Anthem Keepsake : Once Upon A Time The redoubtable Keepsake have consistently impressed with their musical fluency and extensive barbershop vocabulary. The richness of the voices melting into and enveloping the notes, shaping them into the perfect creamy consistency-the satisfaction of a fully-realized barbershop chord! "Once Upon A Time" includes many classic tunes such as "Roses of Picardy," "Sweet Georgia Brown," and a dynamite "Ring Out the Bells in Dixieland," making it their most traditional recording to our ears. However, the melody of "Easy Street," with it's flatted non-diatonic "blue" notes, (heralding the fusion of jazz and blues that would become doo-wop) is fresh, and along with "Chances Are" and "I Only Have Eyes For You," gives an added dimension that is of equal enjoyment. Songlist: There's A New Gang On The Corner, I'll Be A Song And Dance Man Again, Rain (Medley), Is This Just Another Song About Love, Chances Are, Last Night On The Back Porch, I Loved Her Best Of All, Moonlight Brings Memories, Easy Street, Ring Out The Bells In Dixieland, Roses Of Picardy, Sweet Georgia Brown, I Only Have Eyes For You, How Could You Believe Me When I Said I Love You When You Know I've Been A Liar All My Life/ It's A Sin To Tell A Lie (Medley), Once Upon a Time Lettermen : Collectors Series The centerfold of the liner notes for this CD is a montage of more than a dozen Lettermen album covers. The rest of the notes has some nice color pictures of the trio, and a simple list of the 23 "best of" songs, beginning with "The Way You Look Tonight," recorded in February of 1961 (which reached #13 on the pop charts), and ending chronologically with "If You Feel the Way I Do," recorded in August, 1975. In between are consistently popular (all accompanied) romantic "slow dance" songs, "When I Fall In Love" (#7 on the charts), "Come Back Silly Girl" (#17), "Silly Boy" (#81), "Theme from A Summer Place" (#16), "Sealed with a Kiss," "Medley: Goin' Out of My Head/Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" (#7), "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" (#44), "Hurt So Bad" (#12) and John Lennon's "Love" (#42). There's no bio or history of the group, it's assumed we know all about their remarkable career, and lets this sincere, possibly sappy, romantic music speak for itself. Fair enough! Those of us who have slow danced to this music will always be touched by it - the sweet harmonies, the lyrical sentiments of young love, the sweeping orchestral strings, oboes and horns-it chronicles a simpler time, a time of innocence and sweet music to fall in and out of love to. Songlist: The Way You Look Tonight, That's My Desire, When I Fall in Love, Come Back, Silly Girl, How Is Julie?, Turn Around, Look at Me, Silly Boy, Be My Girl, Theme from "A Summer Place", Sealed with a Kiss, Secretly, I Only Have Eyes for You, Our Winter Love, Medley: Goin' Out of My Head/Can't Take My Eyes off You, Sherry Don't Go, Put Your Head on My Shoulder, Hurt So Bad, Shangri-La, Medley: Traces/Memories, Everything Is Good About You, Love, Oh My Love, If You Fell the Way I Do Little Anthony and the Imperials : Pure Acappella Brooklyn, NY's Little Anthony and the Imperials are still performing, and their Doo-Wop chops (including Anthony's creamy falsetto) are as sweet as they were when their own big hit, "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" was on top of the charts! "Pure" is introduced by radio personality Bobby Jay, who gives us interesting info about each song before each song, as if he was doing a radio show. There are 14 tasty cuts here, the title tune, then a Doo-Wop "best-of,"The Valentines' "Don't Say Goodnight," The Eldorados' "I'll Be Forever Loving You," The Flamingos' "I'll Be Home," The Heartbeats' "You're A Thousand Miles Away," The Penguins' "Earth Angel"/The Clovers' "Devil or Angel" medley, the Hi-Lo's arrangement of "Georgia," "I Only Have Eyes For You," the a cappella anthem "Goodnight, Sweetheart"-this is some of the best, most authentic a cappella Doo-Wop we've heard, by one of the premier groups-it doesn't get any better than this! Songlist: Why Do Fools Fall in Love?, Don't Say Goodnight, I'll Be Forever Loving You, I'll Be Home, A Thousand Miles Away, So In Love, Earth Angel (Will You Be Mine), Two People in the WOrld, Georgia On My Mind, I Only Have Eyes for You, Creation of Love, Please Be My Girlfriend, Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight, That's the Way It Goes The Mighty Echoes : A Cappella Cool We will freely admit to loving LA's four Echoes, "Brothers in Harmony" Charlie, Harvey, John and Jon at first listen, almost 20 years ago. Many audience-pleasing live performances and three great CDs haven't changed our feelings as we joyously tear the annoying plastic wrap off "Cool" and treat our boombox to the Echoes' 4th collection of 15 Doo-Wop winners. Some of our favorites include an exquisitely meandering "I Only Have Eyes for You," a complex, soaring arrangement of Brian Wilson's "Good Vibrations" (that few groups would even attempt, much less nail), a rock-solid, soulful "Lean On Me," a silly, tough-talking "Daddy Cool," a richly harmonic cover of Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight," a powerful "Duke of Earl," a luscious "In The Still of the Night," an incongruous but marvelous "White Christmas," and the final tune, a foot-stomping "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye." The Echoes have the tight arrangements, perfect pitch, soaring leads, deep basslines and love of singing that make "Cool" one of the best Doo Wop recordings of the year! Songlist: Rome Wasn't Built in a Day, I Only Have Eyes For You, Return To Sender, Good Vibrations, Lean On Me, Daddy Cool, Wonderful Tonight, With This Ring, Duke of Earl, Whispering Bells, In The Still Of The Night, Chapel of Love, Up On The Roof, White Christmas, Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye Quiet Storm : Silhouettes "Silhouettes" is the debut recording by Quiet Storm - Kamau Akiba, Martin Bentley, Richard Hidlebird and Vincent Tucker. As much as we appreciate authentic Doo-Wop by pioneers who were cutting their harmonic teeth on east coast streetcorners before these guys were born, make no mistake-Quiet Storm can sing leads, deep, honey-smooth basslines and harmonize their butts off. And if you'll listen to the title tune, one of our favorite Doo-Wop chestnuts, you'll notice that it has a fresh new arrangement! Next, listen to the spoken material in "Farewell My Love," written by Motown founder Berry Gordy, Jr.; and then to the Bass lead in "Sixty Minute Man," and you'll realize that this is some of the most fun and entertaining Doo-Wop you've ever heard. "I Only Have Eyes For You" is a walking blues delight, "Daddy's Gonna Tell You No Lie" by Sun Ra and others, is big fun, and "My Autumn Love," "Ten Commandments of Love," "Baby, Please" and "This I Swear" all show off the remarkable voices of the four guys who call themselves Quiet Storm. If you'd like to see where Doo-Wop is going, treat yourself to "Silhouettes," one of the best of the year! Songlist: Silhouettes, No One, Daddy's Gonna Tell You No Lie, Farewell My Love, My Autumn Love, Sixty Minute Man, I Only Have Eyes For You, Ten Commandments of Love, Baby Please, This I Swear Richter Scales : We Hate A Cappella The Scales are an all male, 18-strong Bay Area ensemble which first started singing a cappella together in 2000, and, according to their website, "We Hate A Cappella" is their debut CD. 12 manic, high-energy cuts, some favorites are Lennon/McCartney's "Can't Buy Me Love," "I Got Mail," the very funny original by group member Brian Rosen, (who also sings lead), "High Notes." "Stockholm Syndrome" (which focuses on love as a hostage situation), and "Pencil Boy" (where our hero and Crayon Girl are "drawn together") also Rosen originals, strong covers of Steely Dan's "Reelin' In The Years," the Doo-Wop standard "I Only Have Eyes For You" and the Disco hit "Love Machine;" and finally the oddly compelling, fairly silly title tune, also a Rosen original. "We Hate" is a strong, funny debut recording with an attitude by 18 very creative, talented guys - give it a listen! Songlist: Can't Buy Me Love, I Got Mail, Hour Glass, High Notes, Stockholm Syndrome, Pure Imagination, Reelin' In The Years, Baby Got Back, I Only Have Eyes For You, Pencil Boy, Love Machine, I Hate A Cappella The Swallows : Very Best of Well researched and compiled selection of classics tracks by one of the most successful of the early 50's R&B groups. Featuring their years on the King label this recording is a treat for fans of the clear, clean, sweet sound of the early R&B vocal groups. 25 tracks Songlist: Will You Be Mine, Dearest, Wishing for You, Since You've Been Away, Eternally, You Left Me, It Ain't the Meat, Roll, Roll Pretty Baby, Tell Me Why, Beside You, I Only Have Eyes for You, You Walked In, Our Love Is Dying, Where Do I Go from Here?, Nobody's Lovin' Me, Please, Baby, Please, Laugh (Though You Want to Cry), Trust Me, Pleading Blues, I'll Be Waiting, Bicycle Tillie, It Feels So Good, We Want to Rock, Itchy Twitchy Feeling, Who Knows, Do You? Sweet Adelines : Sweet Adelines Best The women of Sweet Adelines, like their male counterparts, represent the most jubilant, and essentially American, style of harmony singing of the 20th century. This best-of compilation is a long-overdue salute to the stars (and spangles!) of SAI and its spirited membership. Featuring both the rousing and upbeat - High Society's "Thank You World," Showtime's "Ya Gotta Know/I Can't Give You Anything But Love," Classic Edition's "Hit Me With A Hot Note" and the brand new Signature Sound track, "Mama's Gone Goodbye Medley," - as well as the exquisite ache of Ambiance's "Bundle of Old Love Letters," Panache's "Someone Like You" and Swing Street's "All Of My Life," this collection of studio cuts is the first of its kind. We think your ears will agree that it's also the finest! Songlist: Thank You World, Ya Gotta Know / I Can't Give You Anything But Love, I Only Have Eyes For You, All Of My Life, If I Had A Voice, I'm Dancing This Dance In The Wrong Romance, Someone Like You, Mama's Gone Goodbye Medley, Help I'm Turning Into My Parents, Keepin' Out Of Mischief Now, Hit Me With A Hot Note, Bundle Of Old Love Letters, I Wish I Had My Old Pal Back Again, Moondance, The Trolley Song, Sentimental Journey Sweet Adelines : Top Quartets 2003 Dozens of top Sweet Adelines quartets descended on Phoenix, AZ in 2003, looking for gold, and here we have the 10 best. Most of the tempos are a slow 4/4, and the orchestral treatments are lush but restrained, allowing the melody to remain center stage. From the opening female and male solos to the final chord, this wonderful Russ Robinson arrangement endows the classic '40s tune with rich, yet singable, vocal jazz harmonies to make a real showpiece for today's choirs. Don't overlook this creative showstopper!

This swingin' standard made Rolling Stones' "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list and has been recorded by various artists from The Flamingos and Art Garfunkel to Michael Bublé. This big-band style arrangement includes a dash of scat singing toward the end and plenty of jazzy syncopations along the way. Besides the obvious meaning of the title, a current-day twist hints at smizing over a face mask (wink, wink).
