However, the original digital version was found in 1996. Therefore, the Cambridge Singers first Christmas release can once again be heard. Directed by John Rutter, whose standard of taste and excellence is of legendary repute, this multivoice classical ensemble has a pure and weightless tone and broad dynamic range, from pianissimo to forte. With arrangements also by Rutter, the carols are mostly familiar, such as "I Wander As I Wander," "Ding Dong! Merrily On High" and "What Child Is This," but there are a few rarities: "O Little One Sweet," and "Twas In The Moon Of Wintertime." This massive Christmas celebration has been an annual event for many years, and it just keeps getting bigger and better. 24 songs, with spoken parts, all accompanied, some familiar ("Angels We Have Heard On High," "O Holy Night," "Joy to the World"), some unfamiliar ( "Of the Father's Love Begotten," "Light One Candle to Watch for Messiah," "Calm on the Listening Ear of Night"), but together in sequence they magnificently tell the Christmas story. "O Holy Night" is a triumph, one of the best of the year! Truly, for those who love the music of Haven, this is the definite Christmas collection. 'Good Christian Men, Rejoice,' is a fourteenth century carol; 'I Wonder As I Wander,' is an Appalachian traditional with a contemporary vocal treatment, and a spoken introduction about the birth of Jesus (called a 'lesson,' of which there are six in total). There are also purely instrumental versions of 'Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring,' 'O Little Town of Bethlehem,' 'Silent Night' and 'We Three Kings.' In accordance with the holiness of the season, the arrangements are restrained, the manner reverential. The Haven Quartet reminds us of the purpose and significance of the holiday celebration. Songlist: Of the Father's Love, Good Christian Men, Rejoyce, Gaudete, Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, I Wonder As I Wander, Once In David's Royal City, O Little Town of Bethlehem, For Love's Sake, Hallelujah Chorus, God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen, Silent Night, O Holy Night, How Great Our Joy, While Shepherds Watched, Do not Be Afraid, Rise Up Shepherd and Follow, We Three Kings, Christmas Song (for all year 'reound) |

This is an amazing rhythmic setting of the traditional German carol, scored for mixed voices with piano. The 7/8 meter provides new life to a work known to many of us. A good high school choir would really take to this piece. Difficulty Level: Medium Advanced Adult.

How great our joy to find a William Hall arrangement of this classic Christmas Hymn that had never been published. Dr. Hall's experienced understanding of the voice beams through with this superb edition. Excellent for high school, college and church choirs.
