Such was the case with the Four Aces, who had over thirty top forty hits before 1958. Many of the songs on this "Greatest Hits" CD were from these hit singles, and include such classic compositions as "Should I" "Perfidia" and "Melody Of Love, " which had been popularized decades earlier. Showy orchestrations compliment the confident lead of Al Alberts and the harmonies of his emphatic cohorts, who had evolved into a tight and effective unit. Songlist: Tell Me Why, Perfidia, Three Coins In The Fountain, A Garden In The Rain, You Brought Me Love, (It's No) Sin, Heart and Soul, I' m Yours, I Understand, Stranger In Paradise, The Gang That Sang "Heart Of My Heart", Should I, Love Is A Many Splendored Thing, Heart, It's A Woman's World, Melody Of Love, Mister Sandman The Four Aces : Love Is A Many Splendid Thing With its roots in Philadelphia, close-harmony all male quartet The Four Aces first began performing together in 1949 and scored their first big hit with "It's No Sin" in 1952. They followed up with top 10 hits "Tell Me Why," "Perfida," "The Gang That Sang Heart of My Heart," "Should I?," "Melody of Love," which hit #3 on the charts, "Mister Sandman" (#5), "Stranger in Paradise" (#3) and "Three Coins In The Fountain" (#1). 28 all-accompanied songs by this enormously popular group, 25 chart hits and 10 top tens, recorded from 1951 to 1955, records which have sold over 100 million copies. A generous, spirited collection by Vocal Hall of Famers, the Aces! Songlist: Love Is A Many-Splendored Thing, It's No Sin, Tell Me Why, A Garden In The Rain, Perfidia, I'm Yours, Heart and Soul, I'll Never Smile Again, My Devotion, Should I, La Rosita, Just Squeeze Me, But Don't Tease Me, Laughing On The OUtside, Crying On The Inside, Organ Grinder's Swing, The Gang That Sang "Heart Of My Heart", Stranger In Paradise, Amor, Three Coins In The Fountain, Wedding Bells Are Breaking Up That Old Gang Of Mine, Dream, It's A Woman's World, Mr. Sandman, Heart, Shine On Harvest Moon, Melody Of Love, There Is A Tavern In The Town, A Woman In Love, So Long The McGuire Sisters : Sincerely The McGuire Sisters were stars of radio and television and were the most popular sister group of the 1950's. This huge 59 track 2CD set compilation covers many of the McGuire sisters' biggest hits. The majority of the McGuire Sisters' hit recordings are included here, together with several titles that are debuting on CD. Some tracks have not been available since their original single release dates. 'Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight' was the first of their recordings to change into the Top Ten in 1954, followed by the spirited 'Muskrat Ramble' four months later. The following year brought even greater record sales. Their recording of the rhythm-and-blues-oriented 'Sincerely' shot to #1 on the charts, becoming one of their greatest hits, earning gold records for all three sisters. This collection is not to miss! Songlist: Something's Gotta Give, Heavenly Feeling, Not As A Stranger, Muscrat Ramble, One Two Three, Tip Toe Through The Tulips, In The Alps, Be good To Me, Weary Blues, Cuddle Up A Little Closer Lovey Mine, Frosty The Snowman, Thank You Day, Blue Skies, Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight, Missing, Picking Sweethearts, Hey Mr. CottonPicker, Tell Us Where The Godimes Are, All By Myself, Melody Of Love, Open Your Heart, Hearts Of Stone, The Naughty Lady Of Shady, Sometimes I'm Happy, Give Me Your Heart For Christmas, Christmas Alphabet, Doesn't Anybody Love Me, Delilah Jones, June Night, Pcnic, and more Power Play : A Musical Scrapbook The four Slamkas (brothers Mark and Mike, Dad Jack and cousin Don) have done right on this one. With ineffable musical taste, they have selected fabulous songs, such as "Polkadots and Moonbeams," "Heart" and "Swingin' On A Star," and arranged them with creativity and consummate finesse. Their "Orange Colored Sky" (arranged by Tom Gentry), is an exquisite balance of restraint and flash, as is "Operator," where they exploit the gospel flavor, while remaining within the barbershop boilerplate. Power Play (formed in 1988) has that extra special magic in their blend, that fortuitous combination of luck and genes, that gives their sound both sparkle and a smooth finish. Songlist: Hey Look Me Over / If My Friends Could See Me Now, Polkadots and Moonbeams, Heart, The Little Boy, Swingin' On A Star, Rock-a-Bye Baby, I Love To Hear That Old Barbershop Style, Dream, The Best Man, Pal of My Dreams, Orange Colored Sky, I Know A Little Bit / I Don't Know Why, The Lord's Prayer, Operator Tone Rangers : Total Musical Services The Tone Rangers sound as though a group of barbershop singers felt that restrictions and formality of the style was too confining and collectively expanded their horizons first to seven singers and then to a wider variety of popular styles. Their tight, close harmony lends credence to this supposition. Additional clues are the beautiful version of "Loch Lomond" (beautiful tenor lead) and "Shenandoah." Then they go wacky with Al Yankovic's "One More Minute," "My Tzatzkele" and the live gag tune, "Rubber Duckie." Gospel and doo-wop arrangements round out the play list of familiar popular songs. Songlist: She, One More Minute, Surrender, Loch Lomond, My Tzatzkele, Shenandoah, Heart, Precious Lord, Take My Hand, I Need You, Keep the Customer Satisfied, In My Life, Wild Thing, Rubber Duckie |
