Alexander L'Estrange : A Christmas Special A collection of four joyful songs exploring the 'lighter' side of the Christmas. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas was made famous by the 1944 film Meet Me in St. Louis, where it was sung by Judy Garland and this is complemented with O Christmas Tree, one of the most popular German traditional carols, and the original Another Christmas composed by series editor Alex L'Estrange and fellow composer Peter Gritton. A Christmas collection would not be complete without Jingle Bells, given a boisterous treatment here, although actually the song isn't about Christmas at all - it's about the cutter drag races in Boston, where young men would race sleighs to impress the girls! 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' has a light and happy feel. Bass pedals, soprano descant, bass lines and rhythmic shots occur throughout. Lighthearted programming for holiday concerts. "Christmas a la Fa La La" Something new and different for the holidays! This fantastic choral work quotes moments of your favorite carols, all on a "fa la la" text-that is until a bit of the "Hallelujah Chorus" appears near the end. Festive fun for everyone! Can be sung a cappella or with the optional keyboard accompaniment. "The World's Desire" is an exquisite madrigal-style carol using a text by the respected English author, G.K. Chesterton. Songlist: Christmas Eve is Here, Noel, Noel!, Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy, Christmas a la Fa La La, The World's Desire (A Christmas Carol), Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Various Arrangers : Christmas Jazz Jazz educator, Michele Weir, has thoughtfully created a fresh new treatment of the timeless Alfred Burt classic, "Caroling, Caroling". The 5/4 meter creates a rhythmic and energetic feel. Michele's use of harmonic twists adds to the thrill of this unaccompanied work. A must for any choir that sings a cappella. "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" - Tight jazz harmonies give new dimension to this traditional holiday favorite. This a cappella gem is a great way for high school, college, or community choirs; vocal jazz groups; or concert choirs to end their Christmas concerts. This new musical setting of "Bethlehem" the familiar hymn text with additional original text is the newest addition to our Jazz for Christmas Series. "Bethlehem" features an a cappella introduction and tight, jazz harmonies that build to a dramatic modulation in the piano accompaniment. The solo provides an opportunity for ad-libbing in pop/jazz style. The humorous a cappella work "New Dance for the Sugar Plum Fairy" is a reduction of the original orchestral work from The Nutcracker Suite. Michele Weir is known for her vocal jazz arrangements, but this choral is a departure from the familiar. Here Michele has crafted this familiar holiday favorite with adorable lyrics by Amy Engelhardt (The Bobs) into a choral work that is delightful and fun to learn and perform. Songlist: Parade of the Wooden Soldiers, Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy, Waltz of the Flowers, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Various Arrangers : Vocal Jazz Christmas 4 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' is A wonderful arrangement by one of the great arrangers, Morgan Ames. 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' is short and sweet, as fast as you can sing it. It is sung with hums and oo's, no lyrics. The feeling is humorous with traditional harmonies. 'Boogie Woogie Santa' has a 40's, slightly big band feel for voices with a soprano lead. The tempo is lively with pop harmonies. This is a fun, not serious tune. 'Santa Claus is Comin' to Town' is a blend of the Motown (Jackson 5) and rock (Bruce Springsteen) versions of this modern seasonal classic, this driving yet easy to sing arrangement makes for a perfect holiday closer or encore. Melody in soprano line which can be sung as a solo or section. Vocal percussion is optional. The beautiful carol, 'Some Children See Him,' by Alfred Burt and Whila Hutson opens with a tenor solo, soon joined by a warm background chorus. Serene yet gently moving forward with subtle meter and key changes. Little moments for every part to shine. Can be a wonderful counterpoint to the more up-tempo Christmas songs. Songlist: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Boogie Woogie Santa, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, Some Children See Him Various Arrangers : Vocal Jazz Christmas 5 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' is a sweet, heartfelt, close harmony arrangement of this holiday classic featuring a rich baritone solo line and plenty of Puerlingesque harmonies. Based on Greensleeves (traditional) with a warmer lyric 'Once Upon a Christmastime' includes many solo lines meant for free interpretation. 'Some Children See Him' is a Christmas standard written in the 50's by Los Angeles session singer, Alfred Burt. Burt's original changes are reinterpreted in this great arrangement by Morgan Ames. Based on Silent Night sung without words until the last line, 'Silent (Sleep In Heavenly)' has many short solo lines meant for free interpretation. 'Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town' is transformed into a hard-swingin', lighthearted arrangement. It features solos for a male and female, a half chorus scat solo, and a big shout chorus finish. The group has gone through five wonderful CDS, numerous awards and some personnel changes since then (their alumni remain a cherished part of their family, and they are joined by Kevin, Todd and Stewart on this recording). The group is not going home for Christmas because New York City is their home, and the CD has a very New York flavor to it. "Winter in Manhattan" is a funny, surprising, hip Christmas song, and standards "Carol of the Bells," "Frosty the Snowman," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "What Child is This," "Three Traditional Carols," "Balulalow," and "Silent Night" are as beautifully and brightly arranged and harmonized as we have ever heard these songs. Several excellent group originals, including the title tune by Bill Mitchell and Jim Vincent, and two winners written by Dennis Deal, the accompanied, funny, brutally honest "The Last 12 Days of the World" and "(I Honestly Hate) This Gift." A pair of lovely classical pieces by Maurice Durufle, "Tota Pulchra" and "Ubi Caritas;" and Francis Poulenc's joyous "Hodie Christmas" are icing on the yummy musical cake that is "I'm not going home for Christmas!" Songlist: Carol of the Bells, Frosty the Snowman, Winter in Manhattan, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Tota Pulchra, What Child Is This?, The Last 12 Days of the World, Carol Medley, Balulalow, I'm Not Going Home For Christmas, This Gift, Hodie Christus, Ubi Caritas, Silent Night All-American Boys Chorus : A Little Christmas Magic "A Little Christmas Magic" is just yuletide carols being sung by a choir, but not just any choir! For decades now, Costa Mesa, CA-based All-American Boys Chorus has prepared for months in pointed preparation for its busy Christmas concert season of more than 30 performances. The 9 to 15-year-old boys add their youthful vitality and energy to marvelous arrangements and understated orchestral accompaniment to produce a full, beautiful, yes indeed - magical sound! 10 standards, from "We Need A Little Christmas" medley to "O Holy Night." Orchestrally accompanied Songlist: We Need A Little Christmas, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, The Christmas Waltz, Silent Night, I'll Be Home For Christmas, Sleigh Ride, Winter Wonderland, Do You Hear What I Hear?, White Christmas, O Holy Night Bach Choir : Colors of Christmas - John Rutter John Rutter conducts the Bach Choir and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in what is surely the finest new recoding of Christmas carols this year. Rutter is a composer, conductor and arranger and he brings all of that to these high holiday gems. Most of the carols are very well known, though in the arrangements of Rutter they sound completely fresh. There are some new carols here - Rutter's own 'Riu Riu Chiu' (the sounds a nightingale makes) and 'The Colours of Christmas' - and some new approaches to old ones. The main factor that makes this such a perfect selection of holiday music is the free intermixing of religious carols with contemporary Christmas songs. Songlist: Ding Dong! Merrily On High, The Colours Of Christmas, In Dulci Jubilo, What Is This Lovely Fragrance?, Away In A Manger, Hodie Christus Natus Est, Riu Riu Chiu, I Wonder As I Wander, Star Carol, Once In Royal David's City, Silent Night, In The Bleak Midwinter, Gabriel's Message, Fanfare - O Come, All Ye Faithful, O Holy Night, A New Year Carol, Joy To The World, Sleigh Ride, Deck The Hall, The Christmas Song, The Twelve Days Of Christmas, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Fanfare - Hark! The Herald Angels Sing The Blenders : Nog Hurry, quick! Look at what the Santa's little helpers have been up to this year! It's hard to believe that these four young men from Minnesota have transfused these familiar holiday chestnuts with such inspiration and wonder, but indeed they have. "Let It Snow" takes as it's initial premise a Polynesian tiki lounge rhythm - already different - and then takes the cheery melody headlong into a ninth chord resolution! This CD is trimmed with so many gorgeous decorations that it improves the more one hears it, revealing subtleties that delight upon discovery. The creativity just saturates every song, whether as a distinctive rhythmic variation or unexpected countermelody, but always integrated into the whole (by the way, the group produced and arranged "Nog" themselves). In terms of intonation and blend, the Blenders (coinciding with their choice of name), are the best in the business: listen to "Do You Hear What I Hear" as just one excellent example. It's perfectly calibrated, the senses reveling in the purity of sound. Contemporary a cappella at its best. Songlist: The Christmas Song, Do You Hear What I Hear, Let It Snow, The First Noel, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, The Little Drummer Boy, Angels We Have Heard On High, Christmas Time Is Here, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, Silent Night Cadence : Cool Yule Toronto's all male Vocal Jazz quartet Cadence says "Instruments are for surgeons," and we couldn't agree more! The group's much-anticipated hot new 4th release, "Cool Yule" is hot and cool off the presses, and the goodies in our stockings keep on coming: "Silent Night - Prelude," great vocal percussion and faux instruments on "Sleigh Ride," the jazzy title tune, sweet new arrangements on "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "Baby, It's Cold Outside," "I Saw Three Ships," "The Carpenter's Carol," "Carol of the Bells" and "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree;" the soulful, bluesy original "River," the sweet, joyous new French carol "Petit Papa Noel," "Christmas Song" and "Silent Night." The buzz around fast-rising Cadence in the jazz world is growing every day, and the finely-crafted "Cool Yule" is a Christmas winner from start to finish, one of the best Vocal Jazz albums of the year! Songlist: Silent Night - Prelude, Sleigh Ride, Cool Yule, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Baby, It's Cold Outside, River, I Saw Three Ships, The Carpenter's Carol, Carol of the Bells, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, Petit Papa Noel, Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire), Silent Night Calgary Girls Choir : Christmas Blessings Elaine Quilichini directs the elite "Brava," finest of 5 performing choirs within the CGC, in this dramatically beautiful Christmas collection, accompanied by pianos, percussion, violin and cello. In many ways the music on this CD, Yuletide Fires II, is a reflection of that current world. You'll find ancient Latin chant expressing the wonder of the virgin and child; familiar words and carols that connect us to a Christmas of our childhood; songs written in the 21st century that explore new ways to celebrate the joys of Christmas and hopes and possibilities of a new year. There are also tunes and tales that tell of traditions and transport us back in memory to that time of heightened anticipation. We are thrilled to have renowned mezzo-soprano Judith Forst join us on this CD - what a wonderful Christmas present! Songlist: What Child Is This?, Alma Redemptoris Mater, A La Nanita Nana, Ubi Caritas, Ave Regina Caelorum, The Gate of the Year, Ave Maria, The Three Kings, Sweet Was the Song, In the Bleak Midwinter, Peace I Leave with You, Salve Regina, Koppangen, Cantique de Noel, Regina Caeli, A New Year Carol, O Tannenbaum, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, To Drive the Cold Winter Away, The Mummer Song, Christmas Time Is Here Eclipse 6 : It's Christmas Time Eclipse has taken Christmas music to a whole new level with their second holiday album. "It's Christmas Time" is an up-beat and light-hearted collection of songs that is sure to put a smile on your face. The album features ten new arrangements that are both inventive and engaging - from the hard-hitting bass and percussion of "Need a Little Christmas" and "Come all ye Faithful" to the emotional delivery of "O Holy Night," this album will make you fall in love with Christmas music all over again. "It's Christmas Time" is a must-have for your holiday music collection and the perfect Christmas gift. Songlist: I Saw Three Ships, Come All Ye Faithful, Shake Up Christmas, O Holy Night, Need a Little Christmas, Christmas as a Child, Do Your Hear What I Hear?, Christmastime, Let It Snow, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas The Gas House Gang : Some Children See Him... TWO YEARS IN THE MAKING!!! Perfection achieved!! Enough hyperbole already, you think to yourself? Not a chance...where's the thesaurus. Ok, we'll rein in our enthusiasm and resort to merely telling you about a Christmas album sung by one of the greatest barbershop quartets of our time. On this recording we listen to a quartet who achieves the tightest harmonies humanly possible apply those talents to traditional Christmas music. It's funny but as they aren't specifically singing barbershop chording, it is only occasionally that we remember just what tradition this fabulous singing springs from. Touches of jazz, elements of gospel reverence, and moments of almost operatic virtuosity abound throughout and all come together with vocal percussionist Jeff Thatcher of Rockapella adding his talents on "Go Tell It On the Mountain." We were also struck momentarily speechless when we found that, for the first time in quite a while, we actually enjoyed "The Little Drummer Boy" once more. The Gang rescues that song from the Christmas cul-de-sac of fruit-cake jokes with a beautiful rendition. What a tenor lead! You'll hear a fabulous Gregorianesque intro to "O Come Emanuel" which sounds as though it is emerging from a heavenly cathedral. The song list meanders through all of the Christmas spirit to arrive at the title track, "Some Children See Him." This is a wonderful message on which to leave, each child who sees Christ, sees Him in their own image... Songlist: Caroling, Caroling, The Little Drummer Boy, Merry Christmas, Darling, Mary, Did You Know?, Pat-A-Pan, O Come Emmanuel, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Carol Of The Bells, White Christmas, Do You Hear What I Hear?, Go Tell It To The Mountain, Some Children See Him, 'Twas The Night Before Christmas Gents : Follow That Star After their first CD for Channel Classics: The Gentlemen of the Chapel Royal, with English Polyphony of the Renaissance, now present themselves in a completely different guise: on this Christmas CD they give you a glimpse of their taste for the lighter styles. You will hear a wide selection of the personal favourites of their singers, such as Follow that star, A Wonderful Christmastime, and Jingle Bell Rock. In addition to other popular Christmas Ballads from the American Songbook, such as Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas and White Christmas, they have put a new spin on a couple of traditional carols, like Silent Night and Es ist ein Ros entsprungen. Most of the arrangements were written especially for The Gents. Songlist: Follow That Star, Gaudete Christus Est Natus, Es Ist Ein Ros Entsprungen, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, White Christmas, Walking in the Air, Wonderful Christmastime, Hijo de la Luna, Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, Just Another Star, Jingle Bell Rock, Let It Snow, The Christmas Song, Sleighride, Winter Wonderland, Silent Night Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus : Celestial Voices Colorful Christmas selections of all styles by the multiple award-winning, Chicago area-based mixed-voice GECC, directed since 1996 by Emily Ellsworth, with Guest Artist Stephen Hartman on harp. 21 songs, featuring Britten's "Ceremony of Carols," traditional favorites, popular selections such as "Most Wonderful Time of the Year," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," and a poignant new arrangement of "Auld Lang Syne." We love the sound of a fine children's chorus at Christmas, especially one as beautifully trained and directed as this one. John Rutter's "Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day" and "Personent Hodie," "Ding Dong Merrily on High," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," and a lilting cover of Jester Hairston's "Mary's Little Boy Child." Some accompaniment, from light harp to orchestral, on all songs. An excellent CD, sure to fill you with Christmas spirit! Songlist: Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day, Ding Dong Merrily on High, One Fine Hour, A Ceremony of Carols:, Procession, Wolcum Yole!, There is no Rose, That yonge child, Balulalaw, As dew in Aprille, This little Babe, Interlude, Spring Carol, Deo Gracias, -Recession, Personent Hodie, The Most Wonderful Time of Year, Shiru (Sing!), Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Mary's LIttle Boy Child, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, Auld Lang Syne Hampton Avenue : All I Want For Christmas Funky, swinging, contemporary, jazzy: this Canadian nine-member mixed ensemble is a stylistic delegation from a variety of genres. About half of the material is original, composed by Debbie Fleming, who also produced. They scat through the midsection of "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town," trilling in the upper registers and shaking the notes, ending on a descending smear. The original, "All I Want For Christmas" (with rhythm track), has a danceable vocal bass groove, while the "Charlie Brown Christmas" segues into "Christmas Time Is Here." The sound is brilliant, with big layered backing chords, and ringing high soprano parts. Songlist: All I Want For Christmas, I'll Miss You This Christmas, Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town, In a Manger, Charlie Brown Christmas, Glory Halleluiah, Dancing, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Talk With Santa, Angel's Lullaby, Jingle Bell Rock, Candles in the Windows, Caribbean Christmas, Night of His Birth, Carolling, Carolling Hartsmen : Merry Christmas From The Hartsmen Rudy Hart was the namesake of this excellent chorus who unfortunately is no longer with us. Rudy had a real gift as a barbershop arranger and his arrangements are some of the best anywhere. Here he directs the chorus as they sing his arrangements of these Holiday favorites. Bound to please the most discerning of barbershop fans. This gem of a recording was recently rediscovered and is now available on compact disc. Songlist: O Come Little Children, Angels We Have Heard on High, The Infant Jesus, Shepherds Come A Running, Mary Had A Boy Child, Silent Night, Christmas Song, Silver Bells, Beautiful Saviour, The Sleigh, Winter Wonderland, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Heart Of Texas Chorus : Joy To The World The 45-strong all-male Heart of Texas Chorus has been directed by International Barbershop Harmony Society veteran Eddie Martinez to District Championships and IBHS international chorus competitions. They bring us 12 classic Christmas songs, performed with buttery harmonies and ringing held chords. Our favorites are the medleys, "Away In A Manger/O Little Town of Bethlehem," "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear/Silent Night," "Angels From The Realms of Glory/While By My Sheep (Echo Carol)," and "Happy Holidays/The Holiday Season Medley," but it's hard to choose. A strong, beautiful second CD for the Heart of Texas. Songlist: Joy To the World, Away In A Manger / O, Little Town of Bethlehem Medley, O, Come All Ye Faithful (Adeste Fideles), It Came Upon The Midnight Clear / Silent Night Medley, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Mary Had A Baby, We Three Kings, Angels from the Realms of Glory / While By My Sheep (Echo Carol), Jingle Bells, Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas The Idea of North : This Christmas We will never forget the way these two men and two women from Australia, members of Vocal Jazz group The Idea of North, whose reputation as the best a cappella group in Australia preceded them, strode onto the stage of the 2003 Harmony Sweeps National Finals in San Rafael. They would be the very last to perform a 12-minute set, and the regional winners from around the country, many of whom had performed to standing ovations by the sold-out audience, had set the bar incredibly high. But their first sweet notes were a revelation, and after ION's own roaring standing O, it was obvious to all who the audience favorite and National Champions were. There are 12 tunes here, some of our favorites are a bluesy, finger-popping take on "The Christmas Song," "Christmas Medley," which blends "Once in Royal David's City," "God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen" and "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" with innovative arrangements; a gentle lullaby new to our ears, "The Silver Stars are In the Sky" touched and moved us; "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, a big-band accompanied celebration; two Salsa band-accompanied versions of "Mary's Boy Child," one featuring James Morrison, and a pair of lovely, soaring, orchestra-accompanied songs, "Candlelight Carol" and "A Child is Born." The Pop-flavored title tune is also new to us, a joyous, Jazz band-accompanied greeting to the season. The a cappella "Angel" with its powerful "in the arms of the angel" chorus underscores the probable meanness of the nativity. We hold The Idea of North in a special place in our hearts and relate to "This Christmas" as a gift from this extraordinary quartet! Songlist: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, The Christmas Song, Candlelight Carol, Mary's Boy Child, This Christmas, Angel, The Silver Stars are in the Sky, Once in Royal David's City, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Hark The Herald Angels Sing, A Child Is Born, Poverty, I'll Be Home For Christmas Kansas City Chorus : Have Yourself a Kansas City Christmas This fun-loving group of over 130 women, the oldest active competing chorus in Sweet Adelines, who have ranked in the top ten each time they have competed in International competition, bring us a lovely Christmas album. There several well-known carols and popular songs among these 12 songs, like "White Christmas," a funny shopping-related parody of "Jingle Bells" appropriately called "Jingle All The Way," "Have a Holly, Jolly Christmas," "Carol Of The Bells," "Pretty Little Jesus," "Go Tell It On The Mountain," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "Mary Did You Know." The KCC joins with the Children's Chorus to sing a very fine "Peace, Peace/Silent Night" medley. There are also some very nice songs that are new to us, a narrated song that tells the story of the "Little Gray Donkey," the beautiful "When a Child is Born" and "Christmas Was Meant for Children." "Have Yourself A Kansas City Christmas" is a fun, spirited Christmas Winner from the KCC! Songlist: White Christmas, Jingle All The Way, Have A Holly Jolly Christmas, Carol of the Bells, Little Gray Donkey, Pretty Little Jesus, When A Child is Born, Mary, Did You Know?, Christmas Was Meant for Children, Peace, Peace/Silent Night, Go, Tell it on the Mountain, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas King Family : Christmas With The King Family The King Family's Christmas specials were an annual family television event, and their Christmas album was repackaged a staggering 8 times-nevertheless, Christmas with the King Family has been out of print since 1977! It's simply a classic of the genre, and we've added 11 mostly unreleased tracks pulled from various specials and TV appearances to the original album's 12 tracks to form a holiday album that we suspect will be a Christmas evergreen. Songlist: Caroling Caroling/Come Dear Children, White Christmas, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, O Come All Ye Faithful, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, Joy to the World, The Holiday of Love, Silent Night, Hear the Sledges with the Bells, The Little Drummer Boy, The Star Carol/O Little Town of Bethlehem, What Child is This?, Some Children See Him, Jolly Old LoveSt. Nicholas/Jingle Bells, The First Noel, Auld Lang Syne, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, Sleigh Ride, The Holiday of Love, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas/Santa Clause is Comin' to Town, The Christmas Song/The Christmas Waltz, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Do You Hear What I Hear?, Carol of the Bells, We'll Dress the House, Some Children See Him, A Soalin'/God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Sleigh Ride, Children Go Where I Send Thee, Do You Hear What I Hear, and more King's Singers : Christmas Songbook World-renowned a cappella group The King's Singers follow their recent Great American Songbook album with the Christmas equivalent, on a disc that pays homage to the group's roots whilst acknowledging their current passion for swing. Traditional favourites such as ", "In the bleak midwinter," and the beautiful Austrian carol "Still, Still, Still," jockey for position amongst modern-day classics like "Winter Wonderland," "Frosty the Snowman" and "Sleigh Ride." All are presented in new arrangements by some of the group's favourite arrangers: Berty Rice, Keith Roberts and Alexander L'Estrange. Songlist: Santa Claus is Coming to Town (Arr. Alexander L'Estrange), In the Bleak Midwinter (Arr. Alexander L'Estrange), It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, Still, Still, Still, Carol of the Bells, It Came Upon the Midnight Clear, Frosty vs Rudolph, the Re-Boot, White Christmas, Ding Dong! Merrily on High, The First Nowell, Sleigh Ride, The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot, Silent Night, Winter Wonderland, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, We Wish You a Merry Christmas Knudsen Brothers : Yuletide The Knudsens ascended through the a cappella ranks as a barbershop group, but are now firmly ensconced as pre-eminent contemporary artists. Their long-awaited "Yuletide" combines the seamless blend of barbershop with percussion-rich production of contemporary a cappella. The familiar "White Christmas" and "Christmas Song" are nicely arranged, with plush chords and smooth modulations. The walking bass of "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" sets up a swing feel, while the CD's closer, a "Christmas Hop" mix of the same song, is hip and shows the Knudsens cutting loose, incorporating techno effects into the tune. The tonal interplay of the pitches resonating off of each other in "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" is inspiring and one of the most beautiful arrangements of this carol that we've heard. Uncle Daniel Knudsen (of the Mormon Tabenacle Choir) takes a solo turn on the classical art song "Gesu Bambino." This CD will appeal to a variety of listeners and is a recommended gift selection. Songlist: It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, The Christmas Song, I'll Be Home For Christmas, O Come, O Come Emmanuel, Gesu Bambino, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, In The Bleak Midwinter, White Christmas, Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree Libera : The Christmas Album Libera is as close as a boyschoir could ever be to be called a pop sensation but in a way that's exactly what this group is. With millions of CDs sold and touring world wide this ensemble has taken choral music to whole new audiences to great success. The singers of Libera who are aged seven to sixteen attend many different local schools in South London and come from a variety of backgrounds. Although they are boys and they sing, they do not think of themselves as choirboys, but rather as an alternative kind of boy band. This Christmas release, their first holiday album, is superb and you will listen to this recording season after season. Songlist: Joy to the World, Still, still, still, Carol of the Bells, Veni, Veni Emmanuel, Once in Royal David's City, O Holy Night, White Christmas, Corpus Christi Carol, In Dulci Jubilo, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Sing the Story, Coventry Carol, The First Nowell, Jubilate Deo, While Shepherds watched their Flocks, Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel) Libera : Christmas in Ireland This Christmas, boy choir super-group Libera bring their angelic voices and inspiring music to the holiday season with a new CD and DVD: Angels Sing - Christmas in Ireland. The program features beloved carols old and new, sacred and secular, joyful and tender - all recorded live in the radiant ambiance of St Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh, Ireland. This inspiring concert features favorites such as 'Carol of the Bells,' 'Joy to the World,' 'Silent Night,' 'Danny Boy' and more, and the DVD also contains behind-the-scenes documentary extras. Six of the tracks are previously unreleased, and the remaining songs all feature brand-new arrangements made especially for this recording. The distinctive music of Libera has traveled the world, with chart-topping albums and sold-out performances across the globe. The group has performed in front of the Pope during a visit to Yankee Stadium and at the Kennedy Center during a ceremony honoring Beach Boy Brian Wilson. Their signature sound shimmering, mystical chords and harmonies atop traditional and electronic instruments has captured the hearts of music lovers everywhere, and their passionate, dedicated fan base (including over 5 million YouTube views) attest to the enduring power and appeal of this unique group. Songlist: Joy to the World, God Rest You Merry Gentlemen, The Wexford Carol, In Dulci Jubilo, Angels We Have Heard on High, Sanctus, Music Based on 'canon' by Pachelbel, Danny Boy, Carol of the Bells, Holy Night, Still, Still, Still Gaudete, Away in a Manger, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Silent Night, What Child Is This? Melodeers : It's a Wrap Since their formation in 1960, the Melodeers, a 125-member Sweet Adelines Chorus, have won the International Championship twice in succession (1997, 1998). Their energetic and vivacious style must also be credited to their redoubtable director, Jim Arns, who also wrote some of the arrangements. "Do You Hear What I Hear?" offers every imaginable variation (echo, contrast motion, swipes, modulation) of the familiar refrain, and sets up the grand finale with a turnaround, pushing the phrasing to make room for a zestful seventh chord and another key change. "Psalm 98/Shalom" begins on a long open note, gradually converging to the dominant; the subsequent section is a rapid fire allegro, broken by a repetitive adagio two-part interlude. Sound unconventional? It is. "Silent Night," "The Christmas Song" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" are among the many traditionals. The Chorus lets loose on "Jingle Bell Rock" and "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer." Songlist: Jingle Bell Rock, Silent Night, The Christmas Song, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer/ Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer Medley, Coventry Carol, A Holly Jolly Christmas, Do You hear What I Hear?, Carol Of The Bells, Psalm 98/ Shalom, The Christmas Song, It Came Upon A Midnight Clear, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Christmas Chopstix, Jingle Bells, Hallelujah Chorus The Mighty Echoes : Doo Wop Around The Christmas Tree One of our longtime favorite Doo-Wop a cappella male quartets, the Echoes apply their "simple and profound" sound, as "Two a Half Men" writer Eddie Gorodefsky describes it, to 11 Christmas chestnuts: "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," "The "Christmas Song," "Winter Wonderland," "White Christmas," the plaintive "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve," "Christmas In New Orleans," "Blue Christmas," "O Holy Night," and finishing with John Lennon/ Yoko Ono's "Happy Xmas {War is Over)." It adds up to a yummy, rich, deep-bass, vocal Christmas pudding to enjoy again and again! Songlist: Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, The Christmas Song, Winter Wonderland, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, White Christmas, What Are You Doing New Year's Eve, Christmas In New Orleans, Blue Christmas, Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), O Holy Night, Happy Xmas (War Is Over) Mission Valley Chorus : Home For The Holidays A nice assortment of Christmas songs from this Sweet Adelines chorus, who medaled at last year's international competition, under the direction of Shirley Kout. The group, who was founded in 1958, offers a nice barbershop rendition "Good King Wenceslas"; they toy with the familiar refrain and resolve it in an unexpected way. Other songs include "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus," "Dormi, Dormi" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas." Songlist: Friends, Jingle Bells, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, Good King Wenceslas, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Dormi Dormi, Silent Night, Oh Holy Night, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, I'll Be Home For Christmas/ White Christmas Medley, Carol Of The Bells, Secret Of Christmas, Love In Any Language Mormon Tabernacle Choir : Joy To The World A Christmas classics reissued and remastered with three bonus tracks. Songlist: Joy to the World, The First Noel, Deck the Hall, Carol of the Bells, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, O Come All Ye Faithful, O, Holy Night, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Here We Come A-Caroling, O Tannenbaum, Silent Night, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, The Christmas Song, Hallelujah Chorus Musaic : Peace Be To You We had the pleasure recently of experiencing a ten-minute set by Bay Area 8-man a cappella ensemble Musaic at the Harmony Sweeps Bay Area Regional in San Francisco and are happy to hear more of their tight, joyous harmonies in this Christmas collection, "Christmas with Musaic." 17 songs, and our favorites include deeply spiritual songs like Handl's "O Magnum Mysterium," Paul Manz' "E'en So Lord Jesus, Quickly Come," Burt Hudson's lovely "Some Children See Him," Rene Clausen's "Set Me A Seal" and the haunting 13th century plainsong "Of the Father's Love Begotten;" as well as carols like "Here Comes Santa Claus," "Jingle Bells," "Christmas Song," "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," "Winter Wonderland," "Go Frosty Go," "O Come, O Come Emmanuel," the traditional English drinking song "Landlord Fill the Flowing Bowl" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." A fine collection from talented Musaic. Songlist: O Magnum Mysterium, E'en so Lord Jesus, Quickly Come, Some Children See Him, Here Comes Santa Clause, Jingle Bells, Christmas Song, Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer, Santa Clause Is Comin' To Town, Wexford Carol, Winter Wonderland, Go Frosty, Go!, O Come, O Come Emmanuel, Set Me as a Seal, Joy to the World, Landlord Fill the Flowering Bowl, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Of the Father's Love Begotten Naturally 7 : Christmas A Love Story In 1999 Naturally Seven had been singing together as a group only a short time when they won the NYC Harmony Sweeps Regionals, then stunned the a cappella world by winning the National Finals in San Rafael. They were quickly signed by PAC Records to record their excellent debut CD, "Non-Fiction." Touring extensively in the US, they went on to create big followings in Japan, Switzerland, Austria and particularly Germany, while recording 4 more CDs, one of them "Christmas...It's a Love Story." 28 songs, featuring Nat 7's trademark complex, butter-smooth Gospel harmonies - some favorites: the wonderful originals "What Day Is It?," "Love Story," "No Christmas Without You," "In Your Eyes (Baby Girl)," "Can I Play My Song" and "If the Lord Allows;" and the traditional carols "Hark, The Herald Angels Sing," "What Child Is This?," "Little Drummer Boy" and "Silent Night." Also nice are "Rejoice," "Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony 5th Movement (The Shepherd's Song)," "Pachelbel's Canon in D," "Stille Nacht" (German), "Kiyoshi Kono Yoru," (Japanese) "Nuit de Paix," (French) and "Noche de Paz" (Spanish) and "That Thing/We Wish You A Merry Christmas." These seven young men have produced an amazing body of work, and one of the best Holiday CDs of the year! Songlist: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Love Story, Hark, The Herald Angels Sing, What Child Is This? (Greensleeves), No Christmas Without You, In Your Eyes (Baby Girl), O Little Town Of Bethlehem, O Come, O Come Emmanuel, We Three Kings, Silent Night, Kiyoshi Kono Yoru, Nuit de Paix, Noche de Paz, O Holy Night, Happy Xmas (War Is Over), Two Friends, White Christmas, Joy To The World New York Voices : Let It Snow Let It Snow finds New York Voices - Kim Nazarian, Lauren Kinhan, Darmon Meader and Peter Eldridge - celebrating a host of traditional and sacred holiday classics as well as secular favorites. With the assistance of Grammy Award winning producer and engineer, Elliot Scheiner (Steely Dan, Eagles, Manhattan Transfer, Fleetwood Mac), the quartet has fashioned an album that honors beloved songs, while incorporating sophisticated jazz and swing elements. Settings vary; a cappella performances mingle with robust arrangements featuring big band and studio orchestra accompaniment. The result is a diverse program of holiday standards, performed with surprisingly fresh treatments. The close harmony style that New York Voices embraces is a perfect sound for the holiday season. While the bulk of the arrangements are by founding member and tenor vocalist Damon Meader, additional orchestrators include Don Sebesky, Jorge Calendrelli, Pat Hollenbeck, and Michele Weir. Songlist: Let It Snow, Christmas Song / Christmas Time, O Little Town of Bethlehem, O Come, O Come Emmanuel, We Three Kings, Holiday for Strings, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Sleepers, Wake, O Come, All Ye Faithful, The Merry Medley, I Wonder As I Wander, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, Silent Night |

This arrangement, featured on the New York Voices 2013 holiday CD, is equally appealing to both concert and vocal jazz groups. Overflowing with opportunities for real music-making, starting with the opening line. You won't want to miss this one!
Arranger: Darmon Meader | Composers: Ralph Blane and Hugh Martin Performed By: New York Voices
This Martin/Blane tune has a light and happy feel. Bass pedals, soprano descant, bass lines and rhythmic shots occur throughout. A modulation in the last A section is delightfully unexpected. It's a great chart to end the Christmas show.
Arranger: Marion Linton
A wonderful arrangement by one of the great arrangers.
Arranger: Morgan Ames | Composers: Ralph Blane and Hugh Martin
Arranger: Audrey Snyder | Composers: Ralph Blane and Hugh Martin
Tight jazz harmonies give new dimension to this traditional holiday favorite. This a cappella gem is a great way for high school, college, or community choirs; vocal jazz groups; or concert choirs to end their Christmas concerts.
Arranger: Doug Andrews | Composers: Ralph Blane and Hugh Martin
It's been covered by everyone from Frank Sinatra to the Muppets, but the classic heartfelt Christmas ballad was originally composed for none other than Judy Garland.
