The Ambassadors of Harmony is Barbershop in grand form. Boasting premier talent, great versatility, and proven diligence, they shine as brightly as their medals won from numerous International Chorus competitions. Upon hearing, it is very easy to detect how much fun these guys are having. Sometimes certain music is best seen live, and it is roaringly apparent that this group is an incredible sight to see. These men sing with so much expression, you might feel you are right there in the audience. The 49-strong Dale Warland Singers, directed by the renowned Dale Warland, bring us 19 beautiful traditional American songs and spirituals, recorded at the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Paul, Minnesota. There is some light accompaniment on a few songs, with harp, oboe and bass. The liner notes are extensive, with histories and words for each song. All the songs are wonderful, but some of our favorites are: "Oh, Shenandoah," "Skip to my Lou," "Soldier, Soldier Won't You Marry Me?," "Red River Valley," "Jeannie with the Light Brown Hair," "Single Girl," "Buffalo Gals," "The Water Is Wide" and "Black Sheep." These six talented young men met at Utah State University, won the 2001 Pacific NW Regional of the Harmony Sweeps and wowed the audience here at the 2001 Finals. They also won the 2002 Rocky Mountain Regionals and were great at the Finals. They were featured at the opening and closing Winter Olympics ceremonies. "Think" is their second excellent CD, after the 2001 release "Once." 11 songs: "Live It On Up," "Keep Pushin' On," the title tune, the Yes hit "Owner of a Lonely Heart," the wonderfully-done "Heaven's Eyes," "Ashes," "Close To Me," "Pouring Rain," "My Maria," "Kick Back, Relax" and Stephen C. Foster's "Hard Times Come Again No More." Strong, innovative arrangements by second tenor Patrick Rose, and some of the smoothest vocal percussion we've heard.
