The Gas House Gang : The Gas House Gang's 5th In 1987 a St. Louis, MO municipal band was looking for a barbershop group to sing "Lida Rose" for the "Music Man" section of their Broadway tribute. When no local groups were available, Rob Henry found three friends to sing with him. The four loved the sound, came up with a name, and the group is still together sixteen years, thirteen countries, forty nine states, five recordings and an international championship later. Sadly, Rob contracted cancer and died this year after recording this fifth CD with the group, it is dedicated with love to him. The GHG sings with a lot of feeling, humor, and ringing harmonies that take our breath away. Beethoven 5.1, the opening cut, is a seven-minute tour-de-force with wonderful, funny, personal lyrics that go on for four pages. eleven more songs: the 70's summer anthem "Lazy Day," Lennon/McCartney's "Blackbird/I Will" and "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da," "Goodbye,World, Goodbye," "My Coloring Book," "We're Little But Were Loud," "Great Day," Carole King's "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?", "Ezekiel Saw The Wheel," Billy Joel's "Lullabye" and the inspirational "Hold On." The GHG is our best-selling barbershop group, and with good reason. Highly recommended! Songlist: Beethoven 5.1, Lazy Day, Blackbird/I Will, Goodbye, World, Goodbye, My Coloring Book, We're Little But We're Loud, Great Day, Will You Love Me Tomorrow?, Ezekiel Saw De Wheel, Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel), Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, Hold On Master's Men : When We All Get Together In the world of Gospel music we are mostly familiar with quartets and quintets singing four part harmony or the full choir recordings which can be found fairly readily. The Master's Men have created a unique niche. In the world of barbershop you have the quartets and then the barbershop chorus. Now we have a wonderful men's Gospel chorus, which like their barbershop counterparts, sing in the four part harmonies of the traditional smaller group but with eighteen voices rather than the 'quartet's' four or five. Now our analogy breaks down for not only do you find four part harmony, but the chorus expands beyond the traditional limitations and sing five and even six part harmonies. Their inspiration to song has been fostered by the fact that all these men live in central North Carolina, a central repository of old mountain gospel, old Southern gospel, and old traditional hymns. Add to that base their love of newer inspirational work and you have a recording in which you will find solemn, reflective, and exuberant messages of inspiration. (For those who happen have radio shows you will find a joyous version of 'Turn Your Radio On.') The Master's Men were formed in August of 1995 with a stated goal to 'provide inspirational music for the glory of God, which will enhance Christian church worship services and other programs.' Because each of the men has his own church work, family, and location they are only able to perform once or twice a month, yet they have performed in most of central North Carolina's churches. The director of this unique group of wonderful singers is Mr. Rudy Partin who also creates most of the arrangements. If you wish to hear a fresh inspiration, here it is. Songlist: When We All Get Together With the Lord, Had It Not Been, Mary, Did You Know?, I Will Live For Jesus, There's Room At the Cross For You, Showers Of Blessing, He Touched Me, Turn Your Radio On, Go Rest High That Mountain, Alleluia, Goodbye, World, Goodbye, Lord, Use Me Spotlight : In The Spotlight It's good to be the Queen! So says this fabulous quartet after they became the 2006 Queens of Harmony in Detroit Michigan winning in one of the toughest international competitions in years. Kerry Denino, LeAnn Hazlett, Patti Britz and Kendra LaPointe wear their crowns well as is amply demonstrated on this fine recording where tight harmonies, fine voices and interesting arrangements abound. There's nothing quite like the sound of a top-notch women's barbershop quartet and this recording is one of the best in the genre. Songlist: Blue Skies, All Bound Round, If We Can't Be The Same Old Sweethearts, Good Luck Charm, The Night We Called It A Day, How Many Hearts Have You Broken / Them There Eyes Medley, It's Only A Paper Moon, Hey Good Lookin', My Foolish Heart, As Long As I'm Singing, Why We Sing, Goodbye, World, Goodbye Sweet Adelines : Top Quartets 2011 It was cocktail time in Houston when Martini were crowned the new Queens of Harmony. Corrina Garriock, Michelle Shoemaker, DeAnne Haugen and Shannon Harris took top honors with Touce coming second and AKA third. Songlist: Yes Sir, That's My Baby, Time After Time, Handful of Keys, You Don't You Won't, Happy Together, Till There Was You, Hit That Jive Jack, What Kind of Fool Am I, Ya Gotta Know How To Love, Desperado, Happy Together, Yesterday I Heard The Rain, Good Luck Charm, Goodbye, World, Goodbye, How Many Hearts Have You Broken?, Seasons of Love, If You Love Me, Really Love Me, Hallelujah, This Could Be The Start Of Something Big, At Last, I Don't Care if The Sun Don't Shine, Taking A Chance On Love, Flirty Eyes, Once Upon a Time, Bohemian Rhapsody, I'll Never Say "Never Again" Again, If I Love Again, Love Will Keep Us Together, I Wish, Open Arms, and more |
