This CD is yet another testament to how many great musicians we have here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Best when purchased along with Jazz and Pop A Cappella, Vol. 3, Live, as they both cover the same seasons of this fantastic ensemble! Songlist: Also Sprach Zarathustra, I Can See Your Aura, You Still Believe in Me, One More Time Chuck Corea, Creep, Sinisia, Billie Jean, I Wanna Be Around, Chain of Fools, Polkadots and Moonbeams, Cuchi Cuchi, Good Bait, Hair, Teardrops, Beyond the Sea, Lush Life, Within You Without You, Old Joe's Place, Let Me Touch You for a While, Walk Between the Raindrops, Musik! Musik! Musik! Solstice : Rise "Rise" follows "Full Circle" as the Bay Area's own all woman World/Folk septet Solstice's second excellent, finely-crafted recording. Winners of the 2007 Harmony Sweeps Bay Area Regional and placing 3rd in the National Finals, the powerful harmonies and wonderful song selection have won this group a special place among our favorites. As Solstice's repertoire usually has consisted of strikingly performed World folk tunes like Sari Kaasinen's "Kappee," Japanese children's song Hotaru Koi" (Ho, Firefly), "Three movements from Finno-Ugric Landscapes" and Bela Bartok's "Legenycsufolo" (Boys' Teasing Song) included here, we see a whole new side of the group with the inclusion of Claude Debussy's "Dieu! Qu'il la fait bon regarder!," the Aretha Franklin hit "Chain of Fools," Paul Simon's early S&G hit "Hazy Shade of Winter," the Bluegrass song "West Virginia My Home," Edith Piaf's signature tune "La Vie en Rose" and Palestrina's "Tenebrae Factae Sunt" (Darkness Fell Over the Earth." One of our favorite songs from the group's 2007 live performances, Joni Mitchell's melancholy "Blue," completes a beautiful, surprising collection from spirited, talented Solstice. Songlist: Dieu! Qu'il la fait bon regarder!, Chain of Fools, Blue, Hotaru Koi, Varmlandsvisan, West Virginia My Home, Virta Vierii, Paimenessa, Ankarat on Aallot, Legenycsufolo, La Vie en Rose, Kappee, Joga, Tenbrae Factae Sunt, Hazy Shade of Winter Various Artists : Harmony Sweepstakes 2005 It always seems to us as the Harmony Sweeps celebrates another year of its existence (its 21st, in this case), that "last year's Finals were so sublime, how could this year's possibly etc., etc." - but then we're in the sold-out, excited audience for this year's, and the first group is about to come on... what we're trying to say is somehow each Sweeps Final is better than the last. And what we love about the CDs is that they're live, 9 of the best a cappella groups in the world on one stage, singing their hearts out for 13 short minutes, for the National Championship. Last May, Mid-Atlantic's Cartoon Johnny, Boston's Firedrill, Chicago's Fiveplay, NYC's Traces, Denver's Face, Pacific NW's Groove for Thought, LA's Undivided and SF's own Moodswing were those groups. 19 songs, including "Joy to the World" and Best Original Song, "Walk the Straighter Road" by Kevin Kunz of National Champions Groove For Thought, David Lichtman Best Original Arrangement winner "Paper Moon" by Greg Murai of Moodswing, ("Moanin'" by Moodswing is also happily included), 3rd Place finishers Fiveplay sing Stevie Wonder's "Superstitious/IWish" and "I Never Knew," and runner-up and Audience Favorite Face have 3 winners, "Pink Panther Theme," "Harder To Breathe" and "Safety Dance." But let us not forget hosts Chapter 6, whose "Ode to Krispy Kreme" and "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing" drew standing O's, Firedrill's Motown classic "Chain of Fools," Traces' "Mary Don't You Weep," Undivided's "What's Goin' On" and Cartoon Johnny's "Crazy Love." A savory sampler from a magic night in May in San Rafael, CA! Songlist: Ode To Krispy Kreme, Don't Worry 'Bout A Thing, Paper Moon, Mary Don't You Weep, Joy To The World, Superstitious/I Wish, Can't Stop Thinking About You, Crazy Love, What's Goin' On?, I Never Knew, Englishman In New York, Chain Of Fools, Pink Panther Theme, Moanin', Walk The Straighter Road, Rock Your Body, Amazing Grace, Harder To Breathe, Safety Dance |

Oh, baby! Aretha Franklin move on over! Greg's arrangement is just as funky and full as can be. Great solo feature, too.
