"Bohemian Rhapsody" is a song by the British rock band Queen. It was written by Freddie Mercury for the band's 1975 album A Night at the Opera. It is a six-minute suite, consisting of several sections without a chorus: an intro, a ballad segment, an operatic passage, a hard rock part and a reflective coda. The song is a more accessible take on the 1970s progressive rock genre.[3] It was reportedly the most expensive single ever made at the time of its release, though the exact cost of production cannot be determined.

Say what? Yes, "Suite Judy Blue Eyes" (CCNY) is sweet. "Silhouettes" takes us back in time to the stone age of rock. A rap/reggae intro to "Get Off Of My Cloud" makes it into an original all over again. Bob Dylan is here. You won't even know its "Like A Rolling Stone" until a minute or so has passed. The Beatles are here. OK, lets go out with one of the intriguing tunes in rock n' roll, "Bohemian Rhapsody". Four singers with great voices and unusually fine arranging skills apply themselves to the world of rock with grand results. Songlist: Suite Judy Blue Eyes, Silhouettes, Get Off My Cloud, More Than Words, Break My Stride, Like A Rolling Stone, Things We Said Today, Carry On Wayward Son, Bohemian Rhapsody Chapter 6 : Live We had another chance to be thrilled by a set from Chapter 6 at the recent 2002 Harmony Sweeps National Finals (which was amazing), and these seven good-looking young men from Illinois almost won it all! They actually won 3rd Place, but were a close second in the voting for audience favorite to Champion Perfect Gentlemen. An impressive live set: "Istanbul," "Overjoyed," the hilarious country song "Fat Lady," "I Wrote This Song," "Change In My Life," a very funny "cover" of Rockapella's "Folgers" ad, an equally funny ode to "Krispy Kreme" donuts, written while the group waited to perform at the Chicago Harmony Sweeps Regional, the beautiful "Come Unto Me" and "And They Praised God" (reminding us that we do list Chapter 6 under "Contemporary Christian"), the swing classic "Jump, Jive & Wail," "The Rootbeer Song," Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" (which wowed the crowd at the HS Finals), and closing with AWB's "Pick Up the Pieces." This CD captures Chapter 6's brilliant sense of humor, great stage presence, top-drawer vocal abilities and winning arrangements. Watch out for this group at next year's Finals - very possibly walking off with the whole enchilada! Songlist: Istanbul, Overjoyed, Fat Lady, I Wrote This Song, Change In My Life, Folger's, Krispy Kream, Come Unto Me, And They Praised God, Jump Jive 'n Wail, Bohemian Rhapsody, Pick Up The Pieces Euphorics : Standing Up For Love Our neighbours to the North in Vancouver have treated us to a highly accomplished collection of contemporary songs, of which seven are written by the group themselves. However, to classify the Euphorics as a contemporary group doesn't tell the whole story. In fact, their sound incorporates elements of so many styles, that the result is quite their own. "Tell Them Before It's Too Late" is a revival-style musical sermon that uses the stage as it's pulpit; likewise, "Standing Up For Love" features a soprano part that would do any Southern gospel soloist proud. The Euphorics interpretation of "Bohemian Rhapsody," which as any group of singers know, is a challenging arrangement to execute, ascends into the thrilling crescendo, followed by a freefall into a gutsy "guitar" breakdown. "Message in a Bottle" is uncannily reminescent of the original, given the quality of the tenor lead-it has that same relaxed intensity that Sting is known for. "You Can't Hold On" builds the tension in the verse with a luscious minor sixth chord, resolving to a sunny chorus. "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" is one of the showpiece songs for any vocal group, and The Euphorics don't stray far from the CSN's trademark harmonies, though they do add a repeating bass motif for depth. An impressive opening move for the Euphorics. Songlist: Beauty Is A Beautiful Thing, One More Day On Earth, Suite Judy Blue Eyes, Tell Them Before It's Too Late, Bohemian Rhapsody, Standing Up For Love, Only Silence Says It All, To A God Unknown, Message In A Bottle, You Can't Hold On, Hallelujah Hyannis Sound : Cape Standard Time The Sound, founded and produced annually by Townsend Belisle, has been Cape Cod's all-male a cappella ensemble since 1994, and is comprised of an elite group of 14 young male singers from colleges and universities across the country. They perform in backyards, weddings, fine dining establishments, stadiums and everything in between. "Cape Standard Time" has 15 finely crafted covers, some favorites are: "72 Hour Daze (Taxiride), Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me To The Moon," James Taylor's "Your Smiling Face," Otis Reddings " The Dock Of The Bay," Stephen Bishop's "On and On," Michael Jackson's "Thriller," the Blenders' arrangement of Christopher Cross' "Sailing," Sting's marvelous "Fields of Gold," and Queen's immortal "Bohemian Rhapsody." Strong, solid vocal percussion, sweet, soaring leads, hip arrangements, strong material-it adds up to an entertaining winner for Hyannis Sound! Songlist: 72 Hour Daze, A Thousand Miles, Fly Me to the Moon, Your Smiling Face, (Sitting on) the Dock of the Bay, On and On, Walking Away, Thriller, Sailing, Fields of Gold, I Feel Good, L-Y, Last Goodbye, Bohemian Rhapsody, Parting Blessing LoveNotes Quartet : All You Need is Love Brittany, Mia, Caitlin and Stephanie, the artists formerly known as UnderAge, have been working, competing and performing together for six years. As UnderAge they became 2005 International quartet champions for the Sweet Adelines Young Women in Harmony division, which led to guest performances all over the country, sharing the stage with the Kingston Trio, participating in America's Got Talent in both Los Angeles and Las Vegas, and were guest performers in Germany for the Barbershop in Germany festival. They also won the 2009 Harmony Sweeps Bay Area Regional, and took Audience Favorite and 2nd Place at the Sweeps National Finals in San Rafael. Whew! "All You Need is (Love, actually, on the cover, it's a heart symbol)" is their 2nd CD, 12 of the tunes that have been gaining the group a huge following in web portals such as YouTube and Facebook, including our favorites "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Angel of Music" from Phantom of the Opera, which they totally nailed at the Finals. Other favorites are "Come Fly With Me," the very funny "Angry Bill Bailey," "Straighten Up And Fly Right," "Hooked On A Feeling," "No, No, Norman" and "My Foolish Heart." The Notes are beautiful to look at, with wonderful, powerful leads and harmonies, perfect timing and a great sense of humor-what's not to love? Songlist: Come Fly With Me, Angry Bill Bailey, Once Upon a Time, Straighten Up and Fly Right, Yesterday, Hooked on A Feelin', Angel of Music, Fit as A Fiddle, I've Got You Under My Skin, No, No, Norman, My Foolish Heart, Bohemian Rhapsody Pentatonix : Vol IV - Classics Not only only one of the most talented a cappella groups performing today, Pentatonix is also one of the most prolific. This is their 8th recording and surely one of their best. This time they cover some of the great standards with their usual intricate arrangements and powerhouse delivery and this recording should be in every a cappella fans collection. Songlist: Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Over The Rainbow, Take On Me, Can't Help Falling In Love, Jolene (featuring Dolly Parton) Rajaton : Sings Queen Rajaton, our favorite Finnish mixed-voice sextet, has been blowing us away for 9 recordings now, proving with each release exactly how amazing they have become as vocalists. "Rajaton Sings Queen" follows their critically acclaimed "Rajaton Sings Abba," also with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jaakko Kuusisto. There are just a couple of a cappella tunes here, "Under Pressure," composed by Queen and David Bowie, and "Don't Stop Me Now." We of course prefer Rajaton's a cappella recordings, but let's make ourselves clear-we have been lovers of Queen since they first began performing in London in the early 1970s. The vocal brilliance of lead singer Freddie Mercury and guitarist Brian May, and their ability to pen deathless anthems like "We Are The Champions" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" have lifted them into the rarefied atmosphere of Rock superstars. And we have heard countless tribute albums and dozens of cover versions of Queen hits. All of them lacked the same thing that Queen has lacked since the untimely passing of Freddie Mercury, that is, Freddie himself, a performer who could fill stadiums. So now, finally, we hear a tribute album by Rajaton, whose vocal talents are right up there with Mercury's, and we have something! Just listen to the magnificent "I Want It All," "Killer Queen," "A Kind of Magic," "You Take My Breath Away," "Who Wants To Live Forever," the thrilling "Bicycle Race" and "The Show Must Go On." Rajaton's compatibility with the wonderful Lahti Symphony Orchestra was forged with the 2006 Abba album, and here both groups are hitting on all cylinders. Hearing "Bohemian Rhapsody" gave us a tingle up the back of our necks very similar to the one we first got listening to Queen's 1975 magnum opus "A Night At The Opera" through a friend's pricey stereo headphones. Rajaton's excellent English, which allows us to understand all the lyrics perfectly, is an unexpected treat. "Rajaton Sings Queen" is a powerful, magical recording by one of our top contenders for best a cappella group of all time! Songlist: Bohemian Rhapsody, I Want It All, Killer Queen, A Kind Of Magic, Somebody To Love, You Take My Breath Away, Under Pressure, Innuendo, We Are The Champions, Who Wants To Live Forever, Don't Stop Me Now, Bicycle Race, Love Of My Life, The Show Must Go On Various Artists : Harmony Sweepstakes 2002 The sellout crowd at Marin Veterans Aud. in San Rafael, CA once again saw a dazzling Harmony Sweepstakes Final - Eight Regional winners from all over the country, giving their all in the "most exciting twelve minutes in a cappella." In this wonderfully recorded CD we hear Denver winner Eclipse's "Danny Boy" and "Look My Way," Bay Area Winner III of a Kind's incredible cover of "Man in the Mirror" and the Asian hit tune "Anak;" returning winner (Pacific NW) The Standards' "Ain't Got Nothing But Love" and heartfelt "Prayer of the Children;" Boston Winner Groove's great covers of "Anna Begins" and James Brown's classic "I Feel Good," and New York winner, the Russian group Autri, sings "Keimanchuli" and a stunning original by one of its members, "Tale of War." Los Angeles' Perfect Gentlemen's cutting edge barbershop harmony soars into "Blue Skies" and "Patty Cake." Washington, DC's Tone Rangers score with their offbeat covers of "I Need You" and Simon & Garfunkel's "Keep The Customer Satisfied." Finally, Chicago winner Chapter 6 nails Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and finishes with a hilarious "Wizard Of Oz Medley." In the end the judges chose The Perfect Gentlemen as National Champion, (also chosen Audience Favorite) and we walked into the night, smiling and raving about one of the best a cappella shows of all time! Songlist: Look My Way, Patty Cake, Keep the Customer Satisfied, Danny Boy, Anna Begins, I Need You, Krimanchuli, I Feel Good, Blue Skies, Tale of War, Anak, Nothing But Love, Bohemian Rhapsody, Wizard of Oz Medley, Prayer of the Children Vocal Six : Why Dance This 1994 recording shows the Swedish sextet developing their own writing skills, and singing in Swedish on five tracks. Their sound is a forceful melding of both jazz and contemporary, with neither idiom gaining the upper hand. "Sensuella Isabella" features an explosive vocal guitar, while actual guitar guests, along with harmonica, on the ambling, roadhouse "Tomma Ramar Blues." "Bohemian Rhapsody," augmented by the "Bohemian Choir," duplicates the original vocal arrangement closely, and maintains the song's energy capably throughout, with plump, thickly-textured chordal backing. Close, vertical harmonies dominate "The Way You Look Tonight' and "Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring," allowing the tonalities to blossom with rich color. Songlist: Why Dance, The Way You Look Tonight, Alf Beror Pa Mej, Walk Between The Raindrops, Tomma Ramar Blues, Sensuella Isabella, Ta Mef Til Havet, Tvalen (En Blyg Mans Bekannelser), For Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring, Bohemian Rhapsody Chapter 6 : In Concert We feel like we know these 7 personable young men from the Chicago area very well. 3-time winners of the Chicago Harmony Sweeps Regional beginning in 2000, they have been onstage regularly at the National Finals, finally winning the whole enchilada in 2004. The liner notes for "In Concert" are about as minimal as they can be-some nice small stills from the DVD on the front, and then a listing of the songs on the back. This seemed curious until we realized that the DVD is aimed at people who have seen Chapter 6 in concert or heard one of their 4 excellent CDs, people like us. We don't need breathless prose to convince us about how wonderful the group is, we know that-let's just get this packaging open, and-cool, there's 2 DVDs, one with 17 hits, and the other with behind the scenes footage. It's all here, Stevie's "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing," Freddie's "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Theme and Variations on It Don't Mean A Thing if It Ain't Got That Swing" (which won Best Arrangement in 2004), "Ode to Krispy Kreme" and the hilarious, brilliant 5-minute "Wizard of Oz" that absolutely won them the Finals and drew them another standing O at the A Cappella Summit that year. Great stuff all the way through, and we have to say, stardom couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of guys! Songlist: It's About Time, Don't Worry 'Bout A Thing, What A Wondeful World, Pick Up The Pieces, Bohemian Rhapsody, Ode To Krispy Kreme, And They Praised God, And I Raised Cod, It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing), God's Love, The 7th Wheel, How Deep Is Your Love, Lost In Canada, Sweet, Sweet Spirit, Wizard Of Oz, The Rootbeer Song Sweet Adelines : Top Quartets 2011 It was cocktail time in Houston when Martini were crowned the new Queens of Harmony. Corrina Garriock, Michelle Shoemaker, DeAnne Haugen and Shannon Harris took top honors with Touce coming second and AKA third. Songlist: Yes Sir, That's My Baby, Time After Time, Handful of Keys, You Don't You Won't, Happy Together, Till There Was You, Hit That Jive Jack, What Kind of Fool Am I, Ya Gotta Know How To Love, Desperado, Happy Together, Yesterday I Heard The Rain, Good Luck Charm, Goodbye, World, Goodbye, How Many Hearts Have You Broken?, Seasons of Love, If You Love Me, Really Love Me, Hallelujah, This Could Be The Start Of Something Big, At Last, I Don't Care if The Sun Don't Shine, Taking A Chance On Love, Flirty Eyes, Once Upon a Time, Bohemian Rhapsody, I'll Never Say "Never Again" Again, If I Love Again, Love Will Keep Us Together, I Wish, Open Arms, and more |
