The works in this volume were composed over more than fifteen years. Crickets was composed for the Joy in Singing's millennium celebration at Merkin Hall and is dedicated to soprano Meagan Miller. Summer into Autumn Slips is a setting of an excerpt from one of Emily Dickinson's poems. How to Get Heat Without Fire was premiered in April 2000 at The Great Hall at Cooper Union in NY. Jody Sheinbaum was the soprano with the composer accompanying. Over the years, The Pocketbook has proven the most popular of the songs and is often excerpted from the cycle. The five songs of In the Middle of a Life are excerpted from a collection of 15 solos, duets, and trios - all settings of poems by Linda Pastan. Rapture was composed for the wedding of two dear friends, both treasures of New York's musical life. The George Eliot text was selected by the couple, and the music captures its great tenderness.

The second CD from this Chicago foursome (plus guest percussionist), who like rock and still admit to it. In fact, they even perform rock songs on this CD! Yes, INXS, Grand Funk Railroad and Cheap Trick fall victim to the AC (pronounced "Aack") Rock onslaught. Even "Vehicle," a seventies rock anthem written by Jim Peterik (of cult favorites "Ides of March" and later of eighties AOR band Survivor), receives the AC treatment, complete with an actual guitar solo played by Jim himself! What's more, AC Rock are fine singers, they're tight, and they're in tune. To prove it, and to refute any aspersions that may exist about their musicality, the group includes Seal's "Kiss From A Rose," the Beach Boys "409" and the Hollies "Bus Stop," and even "Istanbul" for you jump swingers. (Actually, we have it on good authority that members of AC Rock received serious musical educations, but we'll never tell!) Party on!

Formed in 1956, the Four Renegades slowly rose in International competitions until winning it all by 450 points in Boston, 1965. At that point they were: Bass, Tom Felger, Baritone, Jim Foley, Lead, Ben Williams and Tenor Buzz Haeger. There are 30 songs, and it's hard to tell who's having more fun, the group or the audience. Want funny? Listen to "Mr. Bassman." Poignant? "The Little Boy." Rousing? "Waiting for the Robert E. Lee." Spiritual? "The Lord's Prayer." Scotti Brothers released this compilation of tunes in 1997. The Nylons had recorded them while on that label and all have been released on other cds. On it are arrangements which vary from live performance sung unaccompanied by even their patented percussion track ("One Fine Day," "Up On The Roof" and "Kiss Him Goodbye") to the instrumentally enhanced tracks found on the cd Because ("The Time Of The Season" and "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?"). If you aren't a collector this release gives you a fine survey of their mid-careeer period.

1964 Barbershop Quartet Gold medal winners The Sidewinders, all members of the same SPEBSQSA chapter in San Antonio, who some people call the "Greatest Barbershop Quartet ever," deserve a "best of" CD, and we have it here in our hands! "One More Time" is ringing, chord-bending old-time Barbershop that SPEBSQSA "supergroups" try to recreate, but the Sidewinders achieved naturally, by singing, performing and competing together for decades. 19 songs, divided into "Early Days" ("Roll Out Of Bed With A Smile,"), "Chord Records" ("Ramona," "There'll Be Some Changes Made," "True Love" and "Molly Malone"), "Gold Medal Years" ("All American Girl," "Because," "Little Captain Of My Heart" and "Try To Remember"); and "Favorites" ("I Left My Heart In San Francisco," "Sailin' Down The Chesapeake Bay," "Tears For Souvenirs" and "Today").
