"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" is an R&B/soul song written by Nickolas Ashford & Valerie Simpson in 1966 for the Tamla label, a division of Motown. The composition was first successful as a 1967 hit single recorded by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, becoming a hit again in 1970 when recorded by former Supremes frontwoman Diana Ross. The song became Ross' first solo number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was nominated for a Grammy Award.

Alexander L'Estrange : The Gospel Train Gospel music is a vibrant fusion of African folk music and European hymns. Rooted in the spiritual (the creation of African-Americans in the 19th century), the joy of gospel music has had a profound influence on 20th century 'pop' music. The Gospel Train is a medley of three best-loved gospel songs that would be perfect as a concert opener or encore. The laid-back swing of 'Go Down, Moses' is contrasted by 'Oh Happy Day!' (used in the Whoopi Goldberg film Sister Act) and concludes with the unstoppable finale 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough'. The spiritual 'Standing in the Need of Prayer' is a simple meditative melody with a pleasing, repetitive chord sequence. If you are looking for straightforward and rewarding repertoire for your beginner choir, then you need look no further than Choral Basics the perfect series for singers of all ages. The simple 3-part choral arrangements for soprano, alto and a combined part for men's voices make the series perfect for choirs with a dearth of males or whose male singers have unstable or changing voices. The rich array of repertoire is bound to be a hit with younger singers and the technical abilities of choirs at this level have been taken into consideration. Straightforward and idiomatic piano accompaniments have been included and are designed to support the vocal lines, without putting pressure on staff with less developed keyboard skills. This exhilarating show charts Motown founder Berry Gordy's incredible journey from featherweight boxer to the heavyweight music mogul who launched the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and so many more. Our folio features 27 favorite Motown classics as well as two new songs written for the show: Songlist: ABC, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Get Ready, Ain't Too Proud To Beg, War, Do You Love Me, The Love You Save, You're All I Need To Get By, I Want You Back, Happy Birthday, Baby I Need Your Lovin', Dancing In The Street, Can I Close The Door (On Love), Hey Joe (Black Like Me), I Can't Get Next To You, I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch), I Heard It Through The Grapevine, I'm Losing You (I Know), My Girl, Papa Was A Rollin' Stone, Please Mr. Postman, Reach Out And Touch (Somebody's Hand), Reach Out, I'll Be There, Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours, Stop! In The Name Of Love, What's Going On, Where Did Our Love Go, You've Really Got A Hold On Me The Blenders : Songs From the Soul Vol 2 The Blenders have long been one of our favorite a cappella groups, particularly around Christmas, when they have released 5 wonderful Christmas albums and a live Christmas DVD. Darren, Tim, Ryan and Allan take a different tack on "Songs from the Soul," a Soul cover collection, accompanied by drums, guitars, bass and keyboards. Motown is of course well represented here, with "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely," the Four Tops hit "Reach Out (I'll Be There)," and Aretha Franklin's "Knew You Were Waiting for Me." Pop selections include Carole King's hit for James Taylor, "You've Got A Friend," The Gibb brother's Disco hit "How Deep is Your Love," the Grand Funk Railroad rocker "Some Kind of Wonderful," and the Elton John/Bernie Taupin classic, "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me." Although we prefer to hear the Blenders sing a cappella, these are some of our favorite classic hits, and their butter-smooth harmonies are as sweet as ever. And the leads show what we always knew, a top-drawer quartet like the Blenders is comparable to most accompanied bands, but with four lead singers. If you like classic accompanied soul, pop and rock, you'll love "Songs from the Soul!" Songlist: Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Isn't She Lovely, The Heart of the Matter, Just the Two of Us, I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me), You've Got A Friend, Reach Out, I'll Be There, How Deep Is Your Love, Love Will Keep Us Alive, Some Kind of Wonderful, Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me Cluster : Cement Mixed-voice (3 men, 2 women) Italian a cappella jazz ensemble Cluster lets us know from the first sweetly dissonant, elegantly vocal percussioned notes of John Coltrane's "Giant Steps" that we're in for a treat. Cluster's website is a delightful mystery, all in Italian, but all but one of the 13 tunes (the brooding "Blinker bla") is in English, even the title tune, an original by group tenor Nicola Nastos. Jazzy covers of American pop and R&B songs like Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are," a masterful arrangement of Phil Collins' "Against All Odds," Stevie Wonder's "Creepin'," the absolute finest arrangement of The Turtles' bubblegum hit "Happy Together" we've ever heard, and the Motown hit "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" are some favorites. Cluster are poised, confident risk-takers who are fast making their marks in the competitive European jazz/a cappella world. And "cement" is one of the best, most impressive debut CDs we've heard in years. Now it's time to put on the good headphones, pour a glass of the $20 Sauvignon Blanc, cue it up again and truly savor this masterpiece! Songlist: Giant Steps, Cement, Have You Met Miss Jones, SOS, Just The Way You Are, Blinkar Bla, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Alabama Song, Against All Odds, Happy Together, Nobody's Wife, Creepin', Ducktales Theme Song Northwest Girlchoir : Daybreak The 190 singers of the renowned, Seattle-base Northwest Girlchoir, ages 4-18 and divided into groups named "Fresca," "Amabile," "Vivace," "Amore" and "Ensemble," bring us a strong collection of favorites from their concert performances, from 2006 to 2008. Among these 22 mostly piano-accompanied tunes are some wonderful gems, including Stephen Paulus' title tune," Benjamin Britten's "A New Year Carol" and the very funny "My True Love Gave to Me" by Fresca; Janet Gardner's "Morning" and "Jazzy St. Nick" by Amabile; Amy F. Bernon's "On Wind, On Wing" and the Bulgarian folk song "Nikolo le, Kikolcho le" by Vivace; the Hungarian-Canadian folk song "Morning Star" and Irving Berlin's "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" by Ensemble, Dede Duson's "Dawn" and R. Murray Schafer's "Snowforms" by Amore; and Z. Randall Stroope's "Omnia Sol" and Stephen Hatfield's "Living in a Holy City." A very special collection from the sweet, clear voices of NWGC!
