"Bridge over Troubled Water" is a song by American music duo Simon & Garfunkel from their fifth studio album.Composed by singer-songwriter Paul Simon, the song is performed on piano and carries the influence of gospel music. The original studio recording employs elements of Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound" technique using L.A. session musicians from the Wrecking Crew.
It was the last song recorded for their fifth and final album, but the first fully completed. The song's instrumentation was recorded in California while the duo's vocals were cut in New York. Simon felt his partner, Art Garfunkel, should sing the song solo, an invitation Garfunkel initially declined. Session musician Larry Knechtel performs piano on the song, with Joe Osborn playing bass guitar and Hal Blaine closing out the song with drums. The song won five awards at the 13th Annual Grammy Awards in 1971, including Grammy Award for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
The song became Simon & Garfunkel's biggest hit single, and it is often considered their signature song. It was a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks, and it also topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Canada, France, and New Zealand. It was a top five hit in eight other countries as well, eventually selling over six million copies worldwide, making it among the best-selling singles. It became one of the most performed songs of the twentieth century, with over 50 artists, among them Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin, covering the song. It was ranked number 48 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

"Toyi Toyi and Ke Nale Monna" were brought back from South Africa by group member Mollie Stone and have become part of the Choir's core repertoire. "Prelude" and "Hanuman's Heart," composed by Jai Uttal as part of the musical "Sita Ram" he was commissioned to write for the CCC, is based on the timeless Indian epic, the Ramayana. "Tatkovina" (Macedonian) and Svadba (Bulgarian) and world folksongs. Paul Simon's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "I Need You to Survive" underline a fundamental element of the Choir's mission: not only do we need to love and respect each other, we are also responsible for what happens to every person in the world. Renowned Artistic Director Josephine Lee directs the award-winning 3 part (Chamber, Men's Chorus and Treble) CCC in this powerful, impressive collection. Some light drums and accompaniment, orchestral on "Hanuman's Heart" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water." We really like this choir, and enjoyed every cut on "Open Up Your Heart!" Songlist: Veia Veia, I Need You To Survive, Prelude, Hanuman's Heart, The Pasture, Tatkovina, Ke Nale Monna, Svadba, Iindonga Zajericho, Shocholoza, Bridge Over Troubled Water Coats : Collection The Coats have shown remarkable consistency and longevity, having recorded five albums since their formation in 1987. With few personnel changes, and a focus on original music, it's clear that their 1994 Harmony Sweepstakes win was no fluke, but a reflection of their talent and professionalism. "Collection" includes 15 tracks, two of which are new: the Jeff Lynne/ELO cover "Don't Bring Me Down," and "Open Up," a cheerful harmony-driven ditty with simple accompaniment, (reflecting the Coats' trend toward more frequent use of instruments). Some Coats fans feel that the quartet's true calling remains a cappella, however. Songs such as their trademark version of "Rawhide," "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Cool For You" (the live version, where the screaming of the audience proves that the Coats are undisputed chick magnets), confirm that the Coats' grasp of pop harmony is nothing if not compelling. Songlist: Don't Bring Me Down, We Regret, Keep It Simple, A Cappella, Rawhide, Cool For You, Your Joy, Open Up, Dance Alone, Now You're Gone, I Can See Clearly Now, Nice To Say, Come Together, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Joy To The World Die Singphoniker : A Tribute to Simon & Garfunkel Paul Simon is certainly one of America's finest contemporary songwriters and his songs with Art Garfunkel are pop classics. This recording is a wonderful choral setting of some of the best of these songs as performed by this top-notch vocal ensemble. Songlist: The Sound Of Silence, Scarborough Fair Part 1, Scarborough Fair Part 2, The Boxer, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Mrs. Robinson, April Come She Will, (What A) Wonderful World, Bright Eyes, El Condor Pasa, Still Crazy After All These Years, Cecilia, Crying In The Rain, Feelin' Groovy (The 59th Street Bridge Song) Innsiders : Masterwork Series As the 1976 SPEBSQSA International Champions, The Innsiders climaxed a storied career which included several top 10 finishes in the competition. This quartet's love of singing and their steadfast devotion to their art along with a strong work ethic and lots of talent took them to greatness. This compilation of their master works has been released under the watchful eyes of former member Brian Beck, so you are sure to hear the best that The Innsiders had to offer. Some of our favorite songs include "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Ghost Riders In The Sky," and "Till We Meet Again." Twenty-five tracks. The choir, led by Tim Rhys-Evans, features 20 tremendous vocal talents from across Wales. In addition, Men Aloud is also a recent winner of the Classical Brit Album of the Year award for their second album, Band of Brothers. The program was produced in association with the BBC and was filmed in the Wales Millennium Center with featured performances by opera star Bryn Terfel, John Owen Jones (leading man of Broadway and London's West End's Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera & Showboat) and pop icon, Bonnie Tyler. Men Aloud was formed in 2000 by Tim Rhys-Evans. Tim s primary aim was to encourage young men to get involved with one of Wales oldest and best loved traditions, male voice singing. The group are unafraid to tackle music not normally associated with male voice choirs, and their repertoire ranges from the 17th Century to the present day. Songlist: O Verona, It Ain't Necessarily So, Don't Rain on My Parade, Macarthur Park, Bridge Over Troubled Water, All by Myself, Bui-Doi, Sit Down You'Re Rocking the Boat, Rhythm of Life, Cwm Rhondda, Gwahoddiad, Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau Naturally 7 : Wall of Sound Here is a "best of" collection from one of the most innovative a cappella groups performing today. Songlist: Wall of Sound, Feel It (In The Air Tonight), As Tears Go Bye, Gone With the Wind, Broken Wings, More Than Words, What I'm Lookin' 4, Closer Now, Heaven Knows, It Is What It Is, Let It Rain (Harmony Mix), U Can't Hear Me, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Say You Love Me, Amazing Grace Naturally 7 : Non Fiction The first recording from the 1999 Harmony Sweepstakes winners, who enthralled the audience will their radiant countenances and joyful energy. These young singers from New York, though having performed as a unit for only a few short months, displayed an impressive maturity and sophistication. Their gospel background has been good preparation for the brilliant rainbow of tonalities that characterize their technically ambitious, yet passionate approach. The original compositions were written by the group; they also write their own arrangements. With seven voices, they have a palette to choose from that is deep, intense and brilliant. Definitely influenced by Take 6 (their rendition of 'Bless This House' attests to this), their sound is more urbanized, funkier, immediate, as heard on the vocal percussion driven 'Train.' Lyrically, 'Non-Fiction' espouses themes of salvation and redemption, but songs such as 'Last Days,' and their incredible interpretation of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' require no affiliation, aside from a love of captivating harmony. Songlist: Opening Meditation (The Path I Take), Theme From Mahogany, Sit-Back-Relax..., WDRG-AM, Bridge Over Troubled Water, All Of You, ...At The Tone, Born To Worship, Last Days, Blessed Assurance, Y'All Hear Dat, Train, Last Days (Reprise), Bless This House, Closing Meditation (The Path I Take), Have I Ever Told You (Bonus Track) Naturally 7 : Both Sides Now Both Sides Now is Naturally 7's seventh studio-album. It represents a further remarkable development for the renowned vocal-group from NYC. Some of their previous biggest successes were notable interpretations of global hits from Phil Collins' "Feel It (In The Air Tonight)"; Coldplay's epic "Fix You" to their self-penned "Wall Of Sound". All of which they performed during three world tours with Michael Buble in 467 shows to over 4 million people in 25 countries. Both Sides Now is driven by wonderfully rich and warm harmonies in stellar vocal arrangements combined with Naturally 7's unique talents to perform a variety of instruments simply using their voices. The album contains of classics spanning over a century: from Anton Dvorak "Going Home", England's most patriotic Hymn "Jerusalem" to Roberta Flack's "The First Time, Ever I Saw Your Face", Sting's "Shape Of My Heart" featuring A Cappella-Youtube-sensation Peter Hollens, Paul McCartney's "Pipes Of Peace", the title-track: Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" all the way to a very special version of Adele's "Hello" feat. German megastar Helene Fischer, as well as the group's original song, which always closes their live-show: "Caught In The Moment" featuring Naturally 7 fan Pentatonix' Kevin Olusola on cello. Kevin's excitement to work with the band comes as no surprise, as many admire the seven as the modern "Godfathers" of the vocal genre. Songlist: Jerusalem, Shape of My Heart, (I Need) Air, Going Home, Prince Igor, First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Both Sides Now, Hello, Caught in the Moment, Pipes of Peace, Bridge Over Troubled Water New Orleans Children's Chorus : Music Down In My Soul Cheryl Dupont is the Artistic Director of the three divisions of the NOCC, the Youth Chorale, Chamber Ensemble and Concert Chorus. The piano accompaniment for these 23 songs is provided by Kevin Caparotta. Some of our favorites are the title tune by the masterful Moses Hogan, Mark Patterson's "This Shall Be For Music," Bob Chilcott's "The Lily and the Rose" and "Be Simple Little Children," Cesar Franck's "Panis Angelicus, John Rutter's "Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind," Paul Basler's "Gloria from Missa Kenya," Nick Page's Thula S'Thandwa," Paul Simon's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and the Scottish Folk Song "Auld Lang Syne" by the combined choirs. Every cut here is wonderful, inspirational music from one of America's finest children's choruses! Songlist: Psalm 100, Kyrie from St. Francis in the Americas, The Lily and the Rose, Metsa Telegramm, Music Down in My Soul, Praise His Holy Name, Panis Angelicus, Herbstlied, The Child, The Water of Tyne, This Shall Be for Music, Sabbath Prayer from Fiddler on the Roof, Be Simple, Little Children, Happy Land, Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind, Hey Ay, Gloria from Missa Kenya, Thula S'Thandwa, Tres Cantos Nativos dos Indios Krao, Vigil, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Auld Lang Syne, May the Road Rise to Meet You Orphei Drangar : Caprices with OD Vol 3 Not only is Orphei Drangar one of the oldest and best men's choirs in the world, but it is a true gathering of individualists, almost all of whom have amde of will make their mark in professions other than music. Given this urge to express themselves as individuals, their popular pre-CHristmas concerts, known locally as "caprices," are not just a collective letting down of hair," but a much-appreciated opportunity for displaying all sorts of individual talents not usually required of choristers -- whether this be writing musical sketches, singing in some hitherto undiscovered register, representing half of a theatrical horse and etceteras. Add to this Eric Ericson, the world's greatest choral conductor -- who looked after Orphei Drangar for forty years because he enjoyed them so much -- and the mixture is potent, not to say explosive. Like all the greatest musicians Eric Ericson has that well-developed sense of humor that comes from recognizing that one has been entrusted with a very rare gift. Together, Eric Ericson and Orphei Drangar let their hair down in grand style. Indeed they elevate the very concept of "letting one's hair down" into something like an art form. Songlist: Hor I Orphei Drangar / Kalinka, Pa faltet stod en liten bjork, Balladen om Eugen Cork, Livet ar ett helvete, Halsa dom dar hemma, Fragancia, Julgranen, Nu har jag fatt den jag vill ha, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Stormy Weather, True Love, Norgehistoria, Engelska flottan, Kivikspolka, Poor Lonesome Cowboy, Feeling Too Good Blues, Hark, Ye Sons if Orpheus, Maybe It«s Because I'm a Londoner, Jag ser pa dina ogon / 5000 man, Viljasangen, Lat oss liksom svalorna, Operetten ar dod Singers : Breathing The three men and three women of Danish Contemporary sextet Singers have been singing together for 10 years now, and the voices and harmonies are sweet, clear and sure. We were hoping their website would offer clues to how they can juxtapose an energetic Christian tune like "Shackles (Praise You)" with the hip-hop song "No Diggety," but the website is all in Danish. So we can just sit back and enjoy their cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water," the r&b classic "I Got A Man" (originally titled "I Got A Woman,") Michael Jackson's "Man In The Mirror" and "He's (originally She's) Out of My Life," a waltz-like "Kiss From A Rose," "Freedom '90" and "Jesus Christ Lies Here Tonight" without explanation. All songs are sung beautifully, and in perfect English. "Breathing" is a treat! Songlist: Shackles (Praise You), Frozen, No Diggety, Bridge Over Troubled Water, I Got A Man, Kiss From A Rose, He's Out Of My Life, Freedom '90, Jesus Christ Lies Here Tonight Soweto Gospel Choir : Grace On its fifth album for Shanachie, the Soweto Gospel Choir expands its musical reach outside its homeland and even the church, and in turn offers musical examples of the various meanings of the word "grace." On this 19-track collection, the group sticks close to its traditions on most songs, writing and performing original ones, as well as interpreting many traditional ones in their unique way in six of South Africa's official languages. In addition, they reach into the secular world with a radical reinterpretation of Paul Simon's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" that lends the song a far deeper, wider-ranging shade of meaning. Songlist: Kae Le Kae, Emarabini, Mangisondele Nkosi Yam, Eli, O'Nkosi Yam, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Muphulusi, Ndikhokhele, Put Your Hand Medley, Umoya We Nkosi, Ngahlulele, Voices On the Wind, Ingoma, Oh! It is Jesus, Prayer for South Africa, Jerusalem, Ave Maria, Calvary, Grace Various Artists : Harmony Sweepstakes 1999 This year's program was the most diverse and exciting yet. Filled with emerging groups, as well as Sweepstakes favorites such as Chicago Voice Exchange, the competition was intense indeed. Seven, from New York, garnered top honors, with their intricate and multi-textured voicings, heard to best advantage on "Bridge Over Troubled Water"; the group's arrangements are expanding the universe of sound. Taking second place were the Standards, five brothers whose onstage appeal and energy charmed everyone. Nunez, now involving over 1,300 boys and girls ages 7 to 18 in its after school programs, has been generating a lot of buzz in the children's chorus world. They have done this by commissioning new works for children's chorus, performing and winning gold medals internationally and recording acclaimed albums like "Dreamer," which features the Concert Chorus and Young Men's Chorus. Let us also not forget their full-color liner notes filled with beautiful pix of the kids in concert! There are 12 well-arranged, spirited, mostly accompanied tunes here, our favorites are the traditional Ghana song "Tue Tue," Faraualla's "Riki Tiki Tavi," the traditional Zulu song "Tshotsholoza," the powerful, percussion-accompanied Brazilian song "Tres Cantos Nativos dos Indios Krao," Stephen Foster's Folk classic "Beautiful Dreamer," Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl/Boy from New York City" medley, Paul Simon's "Bridge Over Troubled Water," Jim Papoulis and Director Nunez' "We Will Lift You Up" and John Lennon's "Imagine."
