"Mood Indigo" is a jazz composition and song, with music by Duke Ellington and Barney Bigard with lyrics by Irving Mills. The tune was composed for a radio broadcast in October 1930 and was originally titled "Dreamy Blues." It was "the first tune I ever wrote specially for microphone transmission," Ellington recalled. "The next day wads of mail came in raving about the new tune, so Irving Mills put a lyric to it." Renamed "Mood Indigo," it became a jazz standard.

But in their song selection they also tip their hats to many legendary SPEBSQSA groups who inspired them, from the Night Hawks' immortal "Buddy, Can You Spare A Dime," to the Mark IV's "Piano Roll Blues" and "Million Tomorrows." A nod to Detroit's Gentlemen's Agreement's "Ma, She's Making Eyes," Chicago's Elastic Four's "Mood Indigo," and foursomes such as the Suntones, Chicago News, Four Statesmen, and the Easternaires. 11 tunes, some other favorites are "Sam the Old Accordion Man," "They Wrote 'Em in the Good Old Days," "Wonderful One" and "Keep Your Eye On the Girlie You Love/Somebody Stole My Gal Medley." Beautifully arranged, flawlessly, expressively harmonized-"Tribute" is a gem! Songlist: Sam the Old Accordion Man, Little Town in the Old County Down, They Wrote 'Em in the Good Old Days, Mood Indigo, When I Look in Your Eyes, Old Piano Roll Blues, Ma, Wonderful One, I'd Give A Million Tomorrows (for Just One Yesterday), Keep Your Eye on the Girlie You Love / Somebody Stole My Gal (Medley), Brother, Can You Spare A Dime Four Blazes : Mary Jo The Blazes were journeymen musicians, who had played in and around the Chicago club scene since 1940, though they didn't score a national hit until 1952, with "Mary Jo." Written by bassist/singer Tommy Braden, who didn't actually join the Blazes until 1950, it epitomized their blues-influenced jazz sound: walking bass, clean guitar tone, honking sax over blues progressions. However, it was a sound rooted in an earlier era, and was swept away by the tides of rock 'n roll, in spite of the superior musicianship of professionals such as the Blazes. Still, these 24 songs show why the idioms of blues and jazz are universal, and any of them could be performed today. Highlight: an original arrangement of "Mood Indigo," a summer breeze wafting by on a sultry July evening. Songlist: Mary Jo, Not Any More Tears, Raggedy Ride, Mood Indigo, Perfect Woman, My Great Love Affair, Rug Cutter, Lovin' Man, All Night Long, Never Start Living, Snag The Britches, Please Send Her Back To Me, Night Train, Ella Louise, Stop Boogie Woogie, My Hat's On The Side Of My Head, Perfect Woman, Do The Do, Drunken Blues, She Needs To Be Loved, Women, Women, Did You Ever See A Monkey Play A Fiddle, Done Got Over, Don't Loose You Cool Heartland Men's Chorus : A Kansas City Legacy Heartland Men's Chorus 2000 release of American Songs and spirituals conducted by Joseph P. Barnwell of Sweet Honey in the Rock) is a "best of" album of work since the group's founding in 2004. Other favorites among these 17 pieces are J. It was a wholly new concert form in Sweden: a mixture of musical styles, everything from serious classical music to jazz and folk music, and as time went on it became more and more of a scenic production with dramatizations, choreography and slapstick humor. An important ingredient was the appearance of one or more mystery guest artists. Over the years, many of Sweden's foremost artists within various genres ahve appeared to suprise the audience, and often have the opportunity to present themselves form a new angle. The development of the Caprice would hardly have been possible without the special conditions that Orphei Drangar has to offer: Eric Ericson's musical versatility and curiosity, not to mention his wide-ranging contacts within Swedish artistic circles; Robert Sund's skill as an arranger, of which this CD provides ample evidence; and his brother Hakan's artistry at the piano, or an equally high calibre in classical music and in jazz. Songlist: There's no business, White Christmas, Broderna Sund of Music - Variationer over Csardas, Fabodpsalm, Smaka syltan, pastorn, Midzjtnatzskin radznjeff, Rysk visa, Yngve Gamlins sprakkurs, Naturljud i Hagaparken, Vila vid denna kalla, Fjariln vingad syns pa Haga, Gubben ar gammal, Hagakoren, Mood Indigo, Fly me to the moon, The drunken sailor, Hor I O / Nu ar det jul, Det ar en ros utsprungen, O helga natt, Chopin a la suedoise Portland Symphonic Girlchoir : Girlchoir Favorites Now entering its third decade, ably led by Co-Conductors Roberta Q. Jackson and Debra R. Burgess, the award-winning PSG is taking its place among the finest children's choral ensembles in the country. Over 1,000 young women ages 5 to 18, who love to sing, have come together through the years to create the distinct voice of the Portland Symphonic Girlchoir, and the 100+-strong ensemble joins the 33-strong, "20th Anniversary Alums & Mums Choir" for 17 piano-accompanied, selected live cuts, recorded from 2008 to 2010. Favorites are a pair by Duke Ellington," "It Don't Mean A Thing" and "Mood Indigo," Charles Collins' "Mary Had A Little Blues," Bill Perison's "Naughty Four O'Clocks," "Gershwin for Girls," Moses Hogan's "Ride On, King Jesus," Charles Collins' "The Star," Stephen Hatfield's "Living In a Holy City," "Deep Peace, a Gaelic Blessing" and David Brunner's "A Song to End All Wars." We love the sweet, spirited sound of the Portland Symphonic Girlchoir, one of the best in the world! Songlist: Give Us Hope, Music Is Indeed, It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing), Mood Indigo, Mary Had A Little Blues, Naughty Four O'Clocks, Gershwin For Girls, Birth Of The Blues, Bye Bye Blackbird, Living In A Holy City, Ride On, King Jesus, My Lord, What a Mornin', The Storm Is Passing Over, Deep Peace, A Gaelic Blessing, The Star, She Shall Have Music, A Song To End All Wars Western Wind : My Funny Valentine The Western Wind was formed in 1969 and two of the founders are still singing. Perhaps the longevity of the group is due to the fact that their repertoire includes everything except heavy metal. This particular album includes classic American love songs form 1920 to 1950. The works include songs by Rogers and Hart, George Gershwin, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Brian Wilson and John Denver. Though mostly jazz, their classical training comes through on "My Funny Valentine," particularly. Two songs, "Oh, Lady Be Good" and "I Got Rhythm"were arranged by Dick Hyman who accompanies the group on piano. The cd notes include biographies of the composers and info about the music. Songlist: I'm Beginning to See the Light, Mood Indigo, Don't Get Around Much Anymore, My Funny Valentine, Oh, Lady Be Good, I Got Rhythm, 'Round Midnight, Well You Needn't, Ruby My Dear, Leaving On A Jet Plane, I Can't Make You Love Me, In My Room, Sh'boom, Life Could Be A Dream Women's Chorus of Dallas : In The Mood On April 5, 1998 The Women's Chorus of Dallas performed the music from this CD in Dallas; exactly 100 women on stage in authentic 1940s attire. The artistic director, and the only man at TWCD rehearsals, is Dr. Tim Selig. Their principal accompanist and arranger is Anne Albritton, whose piano graces all the songs. There are 17 great songs from the 40s here, but actually many more; "Train Medley," for instance, includes "Take the A Train," "Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe," "Chattanooga Choo-Choo," and "Choo-Choo Ch'Boogie." There's a wonderful booklet included with photos and dedications and memories. The audience, many of whom got through the 40s with the help of this wonderful music, loved it, and so will you!
