AC Rock does not wait to get your attention on Guaranteed To Satisfy. The exciting opener, "Drive My Car" will leap out of your speakers and get you into the groove. High pitched vocals from tenor Paul Iams and the deep bass of Mark MacLean augment each other perfectly on another one of our favorites, "Rocket 2 U" which shows the groups astounding range. Also included on this remarkable album are new arrangements of Brian Setzer's "Stray Cat Strut," Steve Miller's "Abracadabra" and The Cars' "You Might Think." As the title of the album states, this album is guaranteed to satisfy. Songlist: Drive My Car, What's Your Name, You Won't See Me, You Might Think, No Particular Place To Go, Rocket 2 U, Crazy Little Thing, Rockin' Robin, Stray Cat Strut, Abracadabra, Desperado, Runaway, Ice Cream Man After Hours : One Minute to Midnight The 2018 Barbershop Quartet champs deliver an outstanding recording of a delightful mix of jazz, gospel and pop songs sung, of course, in their impeccable barbershop style. It's easy to see how this talented quartet took top honors in Orlando and this well-recorded CD is a fitting tribute to their talent. Songlist: New Year Medley, Route 66, Not While I'm Around, Gonna Build A Mountain, Paper Moon, I See The Light, You're A Heavenly Thing, Straighten Up and Fly Right, Pure Imagination, Drive My Car, It's Today, Ave Maria Bobby McFerrin : Simple Pleasures "Don't Worry, Be Happy" is the opening tune of a collection of multi tracked songs on which all the voices are Bobby McFerrin's. Five originals including the title track "Simple Pleasures" are interwoven with "Drive My Car" (Lennon/ McCartney), "Good Lovin'," "Susie Q," "Them Changes" (Buddy Miles) and Sunshine Of Your Love. Throughout this recording is the percussive chest thump which Bobby pioneered and really must be considered the origin of innovative vocal percussion which has become so important to contemporary a cappella. Songlist: Don't Worry, Be Happy, All I Want, Drive My Car, Simple Pleasures, Good Lovin', Come To Me, Suzie Q, Drive, Them Changes, Sunshine Of Your Love Cadence : Frost Free Don't miss this one. Get in on the ground floor because the arrangements and vocal flights of fancy which seem to be the current signature of Cadence are exceptional. Four men who have had lifetimes of musical training met at York University in Toronto where they were all studying music. After a huge diversity of musical experience, they have focused their energies for the past couple of years on recreating the world of a cappella music. Frost Free, their first recording, is wonderful. Once again, words won't be able to do the slightest justice to the clever originality and breadth of musical vision which is presented here. Start with beautiful harmonies created by very pure voices. Take a songlist of familiar tunes, "Spinning Wheel," "Shape of My Heart," "I Wish," "Straighten Up and Fly Right," and more. Then add arrangements which occasionally add vocal sounds which you've never heard before (no matter how much you've listened to a cappella music) which are always used within a harmonious context of the whole arrangement. What do you get... originality, that's what you get! You get rap, you get rock, you get ballads, you get a lullaby, you get jazz - lots of jazz licks. When it helps to keep true to the original they create an amazing vocal similitude. You must listen to "Spinning Wheel" and then put on the Blood, Sweat and Tears version. Amazing! Or maybe you'll have your mind blown by the sweet close harmony of Paul Simon's "Slim Punky's Dilemma" as it morphs back and forth into the techno-rap lyrics of Public Enemy. This is one of the finest quartets to make an appearance in the a cappella scene in quite a while! Songlist: Spinning Wheel, Boogie On Reggae Woman, Straighten Up and Fly Right, Lullaby for Hannah, Slim Punky's Dilemma, Shape of my Heart, Drive My Car, Feelin' Groovy (The 59th Street Bridge Song), Brown-Eyed Girl, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, I Wish, She's Got A Way Cartoon Johnny : Face The Music Energetic 5-man, one-woman vocal band Cartoon Johnny first hit the Washington, DC area in 2001 under the name "3 guys mike." After a year, two of the original Mikes moved on, and 4 new men and one woman joined, changing the makeup of the group and updating the name. In their 3rd appearance at the Mid-Atlantic Harmony Sweeps regional, the group won 1st Place, best arrangement for "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" and "Audience Favorite." They went on to perform a strong set at one of the best Harmony Sweeps Finals we've ever seen and heard. "Face the Music" draws on influences from classic soul to modern alternative, and includes a variety of sure-fire audience favorites and the group's own original music. 7 songs, some favorites are George Michael's "Careless Whisper," live covers of Lennon/McCartney's "Drive My Car," and the rock classic "Higher and Higher," and the originals "Bring Me to Life," "Secret Smile" and the live cut, "Better from Here," written and arranged by group member Mike Henrickson. A strong debut CD from a fast-rising, spirited, talented sextet from Washington, DC! Songlist: Careless Whisper, Sebastian, Bring Me To Life, Drive My Car, Better From Here (Live), Secret Smile (Live), Higher and Higher (Live) Hyannis Sound : Annual Bootleg Vol 1 "Annual Bootleg Volume 1" is of course a live CD in a simple cardboard sleeve that has a songlist printed on it and very little else. It assumes we know that THS is a Cape Cod-based a cappella vocal group of between 10 and 14 young men, and luckily, we do. 16 songs, some favorites are the Beatles' "Drive My Car, "Bring It To Me," "Remedy," "Just My Imagination," "Signed Sealed Delivered," Huey Lewis & the News' "If This Is It," Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi," "Love Train" and closing with their trademark "Irish Parting Blessing." Recorded at First Baptist Church, Hyannis in August of 2003 before an enthusiastic audience. Good stuff! Songlist: Drive My Car, Bring It to Me (arr: Ian Varley), I Wish (arr: Ed Boyer), On and On (arr: Townsend Belisle), Remedy (arr: Eric Fosbury), Still Fighting It (arr: Ed Boyer), Baba O'Riley (arr: Victor Sandman), Signed, Sealed, Delivered (arr. Deke Sharon), If This is It (arr: Eric Fosbury), Don't Cry (arr: Aithan Shapira), L-Y (arr: Townsend Belisle), Big Yellow Taxi (arr: Samrat Chakrabarti), The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing (Jim Barrington), Love Train (arr: Ed Boyer), Irish Blessing The Real Group : Nothing But The Real Group We can't start with superlatives when describing the Real Group's work. Our thesaurus isn't infinite. Suffice it to say that they are the premiere jazz a cappella group in Sweden. Well, maybe in Europe. Ok, ok, in the world. They open with a choral scat introduction as they launch into an upbeat "It Don't Mean A Thing." Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke" never had it so good. Sweet and slow harmonious interplay is the texture of "When I Fall In Love." Don't drift off into a reverie because (pow!) here's the well known "Chili Con Carne," and so we are alternately jazzed and beguiled by a dozen great tunes, all in English. Songlist: It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing), Sir Duke, When I Fall in Love, Chili Con Carne, God Only Knows, As Rain, Drive My Car, There Will Never Be Another You, Come Sunday, Very Early, I'm With You, Everybody Needs Somebody to Love Susan Anders : More Harmony Singing By Ear The follow-up to Susan Anders' popular Harmony Singing by Ear uses the same effective method with seven new harmony songs and accompanying teaching segments. Singers who have used Harmony Singing by Ear as well as singers with beginning harmonizing skills can deepen their harmonizing ability with this new set of songs and harmony instruction. One, two or more singers can learn two and three-part harmony singing above and below a melody. More Harmony Singing by Ear includes:Three CDs with nearly four hours of instructional narration and fully produced music tracks. Music tracks with and without guide vocals. The music-only tracks can be used for rehearsal and performances. Seven pop, rock, and jazz songs; six songs arranged for 3 part harmony, one for 2 part harmony. Songlist: Lean On Me, Proud Mary, It Doesn't Matter Anymore, Teach Your Children, Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On), Baby, Baby All the Time, Drive My Car The Swingle Singers : Ticket To Ride While the Swingles first won acclaim for their arrangements of Bach fugues, they have been performing Beatles songs as part of their live concerts for many years. Though Ward is no longer part of the eight-voice mixed ensemble, he acts as musical advisor, and the group continues on, revitalized by fresh new talent. A record of all-Beatles material is surely a natural! The aural landscape designed by the Beatles, with George Martin at the helm, is ably reproduced here, entirely a cappella, of course. Some adaptations swear almost complete allegiance to the originals, but others, such as "Norwegian Wood," embellish with subtle, yet distinct tonal flavors. The tempo of "Lady Madonna" is gently suppressed, with harmonic emphasis on the seventh. "All My Loving" is a sweetly earnest ballad. "Ticket To Ride" shows the Swingle Singers ready to meet the 21st century, with a winning mix of the old and the new. Songlist: Ticket To Ride, Penny Lane, Revolution, Day Tripper, Norwegian Wood, Birthday, Lady Madonna, Yesterday, Strawberry Fields Forever, Drive My Car, Blackbird / I Will, When I'm Sixty-Four, The Fool On The Hill, All My Loving, I Am The Walrus, Goodnight |
