The volumes include historical notes, translations, and clear music engravings - all presented in books with long-lasting, sewn binding. Review: The most useful collection of Schubert songs available! Unlike international editions, these new songbooks contain only a few favorite songs from Die Schöne Müllerin and Die Wintereisse, rather than the rarely-used entire song cycles; this leaves room for many more wonderful individual songs not normally found in Schubert collections. As in the other volumes in The Vocal Library, each song features introductory notes including information about the composition, the song's biographical context in Schubert's life, early performances and comments about poets. The contents for the High Voice and Low Voice editions are almost the same: the High Voice volume uniquely includes Der Hirt auf dem Felsen (with removable clarinet part) and Auf dem Strom (with removable horn part); the Low Voice volume uniquely includes Das Abendrot and Romanze. The cover is adorned with a charming 1821 watercolor depicting Schubert and friends at a summer gathering in Atzenbrugg. Review: The demand for literature in Spanish is a reflection of our changing American culture. Here are twelve songs, in two keys, that can serve as an introduction to art songs in Spanish for a voice student. International Phonetic Alphabet is included for each song text, as are translations for study. Laura Ward has recorded wonderful, informed piano accompaniments on the companion CD. Before the accompaniment, a excellently instructive pronunciation lesson, recorded by a native Spanish speaker (a university Spanish professor) is heard. Review: With IPA and word for word translations and CDs of recorded diction lessons This is a companion to The Lieder Anthology, edited by Virginia Saya and Richard Walters, with 65 songs by 13 composers. The diction lessons were recorded by Irene Spiegelman, German coach at the Metropolitan Opera. The diction for each song is recorded twice: first recited as an actor would speak it, showing flow of the language and the mood, followed by a slow, deliberate lesson, allowing time for the student to repeat each line. This experienced language coach adapts the R in German in the slow versions as recommended for classical singers. She is also very sensitive to liaisons between word sounds in the musical settings.
