Here is the second edition of this popular single movement from the major work The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass. The solemnity of the classical-based Mass joins together with the down-home sparkle of bluegrass to create a work that is unique in scope, and a beautiful union of seemingly disparate musical traditions. The a cappella setting of Agnus Dei is rich with lush harmonies that breathe new life into an oft-set text.

Initially a contour variation (in minor key) of a well-known hymn setting, this descriptive motet-like anthem offers a wide range of contrasts, from early phrasal points of imitation, climactic aggressive motion on earthquake, wind and fire, to the subtle quietude of still small voice of calm.

This is an austere but dramatic setting of Psalm 40 for SATB a cappella voices. The sudden piano-forte contrasts and pungent dissonances lend themselves perfectly to the sense of urgency found in this prayer, which is rich in expressions of trust and patience, and with pleas for deliverance from affliction.

Juxtaposing the solemn and somber devotion expressed in the 17th-century Swedish chorale-hymns and the more unrestrained, joyful worship manifest in 19th-century spirituals, the extremely different music and origins, text and intention: rendering praise to the glory of God are remarkably similar.
