Poet Clay Zambo describes the text to A Mother's Carol as an utterly human perspective of the Christmas story. Scott Ethier's treatment of this text for SATB chorus and French horn is stunning and emotionally poignant. As Mary accepted her challenge and duty in life, so also are we asked to do the same - May peace be born through me today. Duration: 3:45.
Composer: Scott Ethier
The lush harmonies and slightly off-the-beat feel of this melody create the sensation of being rocked gently to sleep. For a cappella 4-part mixed chorus, this piece will be a gem on any holiday concert program.
Composer: Mark Sirett
This beautiful, traditional Christmas text, also known as Wind Through The Olive Trees, has been delicately set by Carol Barnett. The beautiful, three staff organ accompaniment provides the long beautiful lines required of this piece. And the final verse, set in a chorale style, never reaches more than a piano dynamic establishing a beautiful manger scene.
Composer: Carol Barnett
The simple structure of Edward Caswall's poem provides a welcome framework upon which to set this beautiful, original carol. With the viola serving as a solo voice and commenting on the choral passages, this carol will provide a sense of simplicity, balance and an inner peace that we all look for during the Christmas season. Duration: ca. 3:20. Performed by VocalEssence. Philip Brunelle, conductor. Used with permission.
Composer: Robert Sieving
Winner of the 2009 VocalEssence Welcome Christmas contest, this strophic-form work uses dramatic variation in harmony to colorfully tell its story. It celebrates Christ's birth, foreshadows His crucifixion and resurrection, and interweaves prophesy, doubt, and ultimately, hope. Duration: ca 3 minutes 40 seconds
Composer: Michael J. Glasgow
