As part of the new Judith Clurman Rejoice: Honoring the Jewish Spirit series, this rhythmic and energetic setting of Psalm 150, Praise the Lord, Praise God in His Sanctuary is in Hebrew. A clear and concise Hebrew pronunciation guide is provided for this and all of the music in this new series.
Composer: Larry Grossman
One of the more ambitious works by P.D.Q. Bach, a dramatic oratorio loosely based on the story of Oedipus the King. Edited from a manuscript discovered at the Alamo in Texas.
Composer: Peter Schickele Performed By: P. D. Q. Bach
John Davies' paraphrase of the 150th Psalm says much in few words and brings familiar sentiments to life in a new way. Each line of text is infused with exultation, which is echoed in the vocal fanfare figures. (2:00)
Composer: David L. Brunner
This festival anthem, creatively presented with only voices, tambourine and suspended cymbal, is a virtuosic rendering of a celebrated Psalm text. Rhythmically unrelenting, the piece demands a crisp approach and a steady tempo. The words are an integral aspect of the drive of this anthem, forming motives filled with percussive impact. Some surprising non-traditional tones bring a modern flair to the sonic ambience of the choral textures. Wonderful!
Composer: Brian Childers
An exuberant festival psalm setting, commissioned for the Golden Jubilee service in June 2002 and first performed in St Paul's Cathedral. The sense of celebration and dancing rhythms of the main choir contrast with the reflective, ethereal sections for the three solo sopranos, positioned in the dome at the first performance, to create a work of great effect and power.
Composer: John Rutter
Beginning with breath as the only sound, then moving into a slow and legato rubato intro. This is one of the most creative treatments of Psalm 150. Sung in Spanish with excellent IPA and translation guides. A cappella with hand percussion create a Latin flavor that will have everyone dancing.
Composer: Suzzette Ortiz
