All male, 9-voice a cappella ensemble Cantus, acclaimed by Fanfare as the "premier men's vocal ensemble in the United States," rehearses and performs without a conductor or a music director. "Deep River," Cantus' 2003 album of African-American Spirituals, was so well-received, the group realized that "Singing, in this land we call America, has its roots firmly planted in sacred music." They tells us that the very first book published in the colonies was a Psalter, published in 1640. Tenor Aaron Humble reports, "We were excited to explore the bold shapes and sounds of colonial music and learn how we could juxtapose this unique soundscape with more familiar sacred works like Paul Manz's "E'en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come" and Moses Hogan's "Witness."" There are 18 songs here, including some surprising, wonderful cuts like Bobby McFerrin's "The 23rd Psalm (dedicated to my mother)," William Billings' "Anthem, Lamentation Over Boston," the composer's attempt to deal spiritually with the burning of Boston by the British in the American Revolution, its world premiere recording. Since its founding in 1997 by director Diane Loomer, C.M., recipient of the Order of Canada, 57-strong men's chorus Chor Leoni has been recognized as a Canadian choral treasure, and lauded for its innovative programming, technical precision and commitment to the creation of new Canadian works for male choir. Spanning a diverse range of choral literature, this acclaimed Minnesota choir has once again produced a pristine recording. Directed by Rene Clausen, the mixed group performs spirituals ("Ain't Got Time To Die"), and folk songs ("Little Potato"), in addition to the expected arrangements of composers such as F. Melius Christiansen ("Praise To The Lord"), whose Scandinavian heritage is part of an acknowledged hegemony in the choral world. The Master's Men is a 23-strong a cappella ensemble from North Carolina, founded in 1995 by the late Rudy Partin, a skilled and experienced director and arranger. The Men, who never charge or expect payments for appearances, have recorded six excellent albums, "On the Road" is their seventh. There are 25 live cuts here, recorded at eight different churches in North Carolina. Our favorites include traditional songs like "There's a Meetin' Here Tonight/Old Time Religion Medley," "I Saw the Light," "Witness," and "Gospel Medley," the autobiographical "Founding of The Master's Men," narrated by Dean Stults; the Contemporary Christian originals "I'm Feelin' Fine," "In This Very Room," "Had It Not Been," "He's A Personal Saviour," "The Majesty and Glory of Your Name," "I Hear A Voice A-Prayin'" and "Room At The Cross." The choir is an auditioned mixed ensemble of 36-42 voices. The choir was created in 2000 for the study, performance, and recording of "gems" from the standard choral repertoire. This CD is a sampling of the repertoire the choir has performed over the last five years. Chamber Chorale is one of two touring choirs at Millikin. The group conducts an annual tour of the Midwest in January with occasional travel to other parts of the country. The Chorale, together with five other traditional choirs forms the core of the Millikin choral program - a program with over 300 singers, 3 vocal jazz groups, two early music consorts, and a plethora of student-created ensembles.

Featuring repertoire from the Singers' 2007-2008 season, "The Cloths of Heaven" is the choir's ninth release. The CD includes Anton Bruckner's classic motet "Os justi meditabitur sapientiam," Eric Whitacre's beautiful "Five Hebrew Love Songs," and the world premiere of William Hawley's "The Cloths of Heaven," which was commissioned by the choir.
