"New York State of Mind" is a song written by Billy Joel which initially appeared on the album Turnstiles in 1976. Although it was never a hit song and was never released as a single, it has become a fan favorite and a song that Joel plays regularly in concert.[1] Joel famously played the song at The Concert for New York City, the October 2001 benefit concert for the New York City Fire and Police Departments and the loved ones of families of first responders lost during the terrorist attack on New York City on 9/11. He reprised that theme, playing it during his set at 12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Dec. 12, 2012, where he changed lyrics to include the likes of "Breezy Point."

Billy Joel : A Cappella for Mixed Voices Billy Joel is certainly one of the great American songwriters of the modern pop era and his works are often particularly suitable for an a cappella treatment. His iconic hit "Piano Man" from the 1970s will make a nice concert change of pace in this arrangement by Philip Lawson of King's Singers fame. Smooth vocal backup and great harmonies give "New York State of Mind" a special appeal. "Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)"is one of the most poignant and beautiful songs of the '90s, now in an a cappella setting. This ballad is simply stunning. Kirby Shaw's exquisite a cappella arrangement of "And So It Goes" is stunning. Don't miss it! Billy's 1978 pop hit "Just The Way You Are" expresses a universal truth in a simple and beautiful way, and this a cappella setting will resonate with listeners at many concert occasions. This is a great collection and will have the audiences singing along..
