Allan Robert Petker : Te Deum - Laudamus Propter Musicam The traditional Te Deum takes on a fresh perspective with this three-movement work. The entire title really means praise to God for music, and the first movement pays homage to our Baroque ancestry in it Handelian treatment, but in modern day tonalities. The second is lush and tender, while the third blends the traditional Latin text with the beautiful poetry of Fred Pratt Green, When in our Music God is Glorified. Composed for choir and orchestra, it is performable with just piano and in several different orchestral options. It is already been performed in numerous U.S. halls, including Carnegie Hall, and in Europe. It is medium to difficult. Allan Robert Petker : A Festival Gloria This 8-minute work has three distinct sections that flow together without stopping. The Gloria section that opens the work is exuberant and rhythmic. The miserere middle section is poignant and stirring. The et in terra pax section is assuring and comforting. Other accompaniments are available by rental: Brass Quintet and Percussion, Chamber Orchestra and Full Orchestra. |

The Circle is a composition sensitive to the needs of a world growing ever more aware of social justice. Its text is based on the words of American poet Edwin Markham - He drew a circle that shut me out ... but love and I had the wit to win: We drew a circle that took him in! The piece was notably performed by Tonality, an ensemble conducted by self-proclaimed music activist Alexander Lloyd Blake. Their award-winning rendition brought renewed attention to the piece's inclusive message and compelling musical setting.
This choral piece uses canons to create a showcase for choirs that is absolutely irresistible! The captivating melody dances in your imagination until you can't help but sing along!
Living in the moment is a mantra and goal that is as easily forgotten as it is to pursue. The poem in this motet proclaims its value in colorful ways. Each verse is followed by a Latin phrase that coalesces the thoughts in flowing counterpoint. The middle section plays with the words from which the piece gets its title. This is a lovely and thoughtful piece for high school, college and community choir concerts.
Although the words come from the 19th century there is no question the music is of today. The opening tonal clusters from the choir, accompanied by a rolling line and steady harmony in the piano, create a mood of mystery. Praise rings forth exuberantly in salute of God's command of life and death, however the music stays well-grounded in reality, and the newness is engaging. An excellent church anthem, general song of praise, All Saints day, or concert. Medium difficulty.
This beautiful piece uses the classic text from Numbers and is excerpted from the closing section from a three-movement work for choir and chamber orchestra entitled Touch. Based on the paintings of Chinese artist He Qi it will be a wonderful benediction for high school and up.

Here is a rebel piece of music that combines traditional sacred music with praise music. Beginning with the organ and a stately choir the text from II Chronicles 7:15-16 honors when God is with us in our sacred space. A praise band feel takes over and introduces a simple song (sung by children or praise singers). Next thing you know the choir and organ bring in two traditional hymns (Come Thou Fount and Joyful, Joyful) that all fit together. God is truly in this house for all people of all musical styles.
Beginning with an unassuming quietness, this Psalm setting has drive! Twice the chorus is interrupted with a serene contrast befitting the remaining scripture text, but each time the response rallies greater than before.

Light, playful love song, easy to learn. It has a magical quality that stays with both singer and audience. Difficulty Level: Medium Easy Middle School, High School or Easy Adult.
