The register balance is achieved in the ingenious way Sieber arranges the syllables. Again, his goal it to allow the space of the open vowels in the closed vowels, and the ring of the closed vowels in the open vowels. Lindquest called these vocalises the 'bridge between vocalizing and singing music'. Carlo Francesco Badini (1715-1810) worked for a long time as a librettist at London's Italian opera house. In 1791, he wrote the text to Joseph Haydn's last opera L'anima del filosofo, ossia Orfeo ed Euricice. In 1796 Badini collaborated once again with Haydn, resulting in two enchanting chamber duets for soprano, tenor and piano: Saper vorrei se m'ami and Guarda qui che lo vedrai, whose bucolic setting was very popular at the time. In this Henle Urtext edition, the detailed preface by the editor Marianne Helms offers information on the complex source situation and the publication of these duets.

The fourteen operas by Donizetti from which the significant and, in part, little known tenor arias in this anthology have been taken fall within the chronological span from 1828 to 1843.

There has been widespread accceptance by teachers and students of 'The First Book Series,' so it was only natural that there would be a 'Part II' book compiled. The Part II books follow many of the same concepts which are covered in the Preface of the original volumes, including a comprehensive selection of between 34 and 37 songs from the Baroque through the 20th Century. The selections range from easy to moderate difficulty for both singer and accompanist. At the request of the students and teachers, there are more sacred songs, and two Christmas solos have been added to each book. Also included are two enhanced CDs, giving you the ability to not only play the accompaniments on both your CD player and computer, but they are also CD-ROMs that are capable of playing the tracks at different tempos and in different keys when played on the computer.

This classical solo book is compiled for male voice students whose changed voices have settled into the tenor and baritone / bass ranges. Included are some easy English folk songs, however most of the pieces are robust and rhythmical settings of male texts. The level of difficulty is easy to medium.
