The original members of Wise Guys met in 1995. From the beginning, the biggest obstacle was getting together for rehearsals. You see, the quartet members have never lived in the same city. Over the history of the quartet, the guys have lived in Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Orlando and Gainesville, Florida as well as in Atlanta GA, Raleigh NC, and Columbia SC. Whew! In the fall of 1998, they became Sunshine District (State of Florida) Champions. Wise Guys have continued to compete with the best quartets in the world and are currently ranked 27th internationally. Today, the quartet consists of four experienced performers with a variety of musical backgrounds. As you will read, a couple of the guys are professional musicians. Their comedic flair continues to delight audiences around the globe. As if their music wasn't big enough, with a minimum height of six foot three inches tall, the fingertip-to-fingertip span of this svelte foursome resembles that of Boeing 747. The common thread between them is the love of entertaining audiences, thus these gentle giants have begun carving their own niche in the Barbershop Harmony Society as well as in the hearts of many.
The original version of Yesteryear was formed in February 1984. Over the years, 5 personnel changes lead to the present foursome. We placed in the top twenty at our first international contest in July 1992 in New Orleans. In 1993, we broke into the top ten, placing 8t in Calgary, Canada. We then took our Johnny Appleseed District crown that October. our first medal came in July 1994, receiving a bronze for third place in Pittsburg, PA. July 1995, saw us win the silver medal in Miami Beach, FL, and again the silver in Salt Lake City, UT in 1996. Then on July 5th, 1997, we were named "International Champions."
Zing! quartet enjoys ZING-ing songs. The tenor, Michelle Hunget, has a long family history of singing barbershop. She is the most decorated tenor in Region #7 quartet history and has been on the International stage many times with quartets and the Kansas City Chorus. Susan, the lead in the group, started singing barbershop in the early 1980's. She is part of the International Champion quartet Classic Edition. She is a chorus director and coaches many groups. The Okie in Zing is Mary Rhea. The well-traveled Navy wife has many claims to fame. Her list of membership in fantastic choruses is long and now she's directing a fantastic chorus - OK City. She has sung baritone in many quartets and is a great addition to Zing!. The bass part is ablely handled by Melynnie Williams. This is Mel's second quartet. She has been in several choruses and has enjoyed getting to know the international ropes.
