Christmas choral music is some of the most fun music out there, both to sing and simply to drink in. Whether the choir is singing centuries’ old pieces by Tavener and Britten, or modern and light-hearted work like Rudolph and Frosty, it’s heartwarming, spirit-raising music that just makes you want to gather with loved ones around a well-lit tree, enjoying a roaring fire. Even in the heart of Summer.
Christmas has been an important part of both sacred and secular choral music from the very earliest of times and the wealth of songs and arrangements is impressive. Always a time for joy and celebration the music reflects the peace and happiness the season can bring. Most all choirs perform a Christmas concert and we offer arrangements that will make your season fun.
Included are arrangements by many of the great choral composers including John Rutter, David Willcocks, Dale Warland, John Taverner, Bob Chilcott, Ola Gjeilo and many, many others.
Christmas, as a holiday, goes back nearly two millennium. Music has changed over the time, but the idea of celebrating with music hasn’t. Much of our favorite Christmas music date back to the Middle Ages or even earlier, and the best way to experience them is in the work of those groups dedicated to preserving centuries-old music – Tudor polyphony, medieval chant, medieval carols, renaissance motets, plainchant or more.

This is how some of these songs were meant to be sung. Male ensembles, large and small, belting out or softly delivering centuries-old or modern holiday pieces… These aren’t just albums, they’re holidays-in-a-CD-case! Gregorian and Sarum chant, Canadian, American, Australian and European carols, Tchaikovsky, Biebl, Lauridsen and works by many others whose names you know, and whose music you love. This is some of the most fun you can have with Christmas music that doesn’t actually involve singing it yourself – sit back with your feet up, a snug afghan on your lap, a cozy fire in the fireplace (yes, even if it’s June), and drink it all in!
As the true connoisseur knows, like with any other genre of music, all-female Christmas recordings have a unique and lovely sound to them that is a delight to hear. With 20+ recordings from small and large ensembles around the globe, we’ve got a little bit of every style of Xmas music, ranging from sacred medieval pieces and modern carols to performances of the transcribed arrangements from a Japanese internment camp’s choir. Some of these ensembles are “grown-up,” while others are college based. The Women’s Choral Christmas Recordings section is another one of our holidays-in-a-CD-case collections; have a seat, pop in a CD, take a listen, and relive holidays-past!
Children love Christmas, and not just because of the presents. Christmas has pageantry, it has good food, and it’s got good, fun music that they love to sing. What could be better for them? If you enjoy the sound of children’s voices singing Christmas music – and who wouldn’t enjoy the pure magic of that sound? – we’ve got a number of treats for you here! Children’s choirs from around the U.S. and Canada, and even some from as far away as Russian, singing traditional carols and modern pieces in English, French, Finnish, German, Latin – even Cherokee!
