Ed (deceased) was the former president of the Barbershop Harmony Society, but much more than that he was a genius arranger for Barbershop quartets and choruses. Ed Waesche was a member of the famous (in barbershop music circles) 'The New Yorkers'. The New Yorkers were a quartet of Barbershop music aficionados; David Johnson, Kevin Clifford, Ed Waesche III, and Al Fennell. They achieved the honor of becoming the Mid-Atlantic District Quartet Champions in 1982. Ed was also a creative arranger and would arrange many old quartet favorites into choruses (sometimes 30 people). You can see the year 2000 Ed Waesche arrangement try "What'll I Do" sung by 'Platinum' here. For a chorus version try this one "Toyland" sung by 'Great Northern Union'. You can see how versatile this style and Ed's genius for arrangements can be. |
