With the country experiencing a revival in singing traditional folksongs, this collection is a great way to experience the unabashed joy that performing these British tunes can bring. The series started with The First Book of Solos, and then, at the same difficulty level, came The First Book of Solos - Part II. The Second Book of Solos, originally released in 1993, is for singers who have taken voice a little longer and are capable of more challenges, but is still decidedly student-level material, and music that can be sung by good high school students. The new The Second Book of Solos - Part II set is at exactly the same level as The Second Book of Solos. It shares the same features: a deliberate variety of music in different styles and languages, including a few sacred selections, with over 30 songs per book. Also included are two accompaniment CDs that are presented in book order. This edition is for Tenors. Songlist: A Chloris, As Ever I Saw, By The Sea, Cabin, Canzonette, Cieco Si Finse Amore, Le Colibri, Delizie Contene, Che L'alma Beate, He Counteth All Your Sorrows, In Der Fremde, Let's Take A Walk, Mien Schoner Stern!, My songs Sheall rizeed, Nell, O lord thou hast searched me, O Waly Waly, Oh Gentlemen Listen I Pray, Le Papillon, Per formare la beta, Piggesnie, The Poets Life, En Priere, Reward, Schafers Klaglied, Silver, Strictly Germ-Proof, Strings in the Earth and Air, Then Shall the Righteous Shine Forth, Under the Greenwood Tree, Verdi quel ruscelletto, and more Collegium Regale : Carry Me Home Carry me home is an assortment of folk songs arranged for male voices including "Londonderry Air" and "O Waly Waly". Collegium Regale, which is composed of the choral scholars from the King's College Choir, explores the traditional songs of Britain, America, France and Hungary. Many of these familiar tunes, such as "Molly Malone" and "Shenandoah" were arranged by Keith Roberts who serves as the group's artistic consultant. The spirituals arranged by Robert Rice stray from the traditional style. His versions lean toward the lighter sounds of doo-wop and barbershop, particularly in "Sometimes I feel like a motherless child." Though, all pieces and especially the solos are sung beautifully. Songlist: Dashing Away With The Smoothing Iron, Brigg Fair, Botany Bay, Il est ne le divin enfant, Myfanwy, The turtle dove, Londonderry air, Sometimes I feel like a motherless child, Nobody knows the trouble I seen, De gospel train, My sweetheart's like Venus, Ca' the yowes, Molly Malone, O Waly Waly, Ye banks and braes, Song of the Volga Boatmen, Shenandoah, Joshua, Steal Away, Swing Low, Sweet Chariot King's Singers : In Concert Presented by James Galway and filmed at Harewood House, this 1987 program features eight mostly classical and traditional pieces, from "There's Nae Luck" to "The Flight Of The Bumblebee." One work, "Sea Rune," was comissioned for the group in 1986, and is a challenging polyphonic composition. "Bumble Bee" is an exciting and dramatic reading, and the video's closer, "Creole Love Call," (a piece that was featured in the repetoire of the legendary Comedian Harmonists), is a marvelous combination of musicianship and theatrics. The King's Singers "big band" rendition requires lip diddling, chin slapping and nose tweaking, all done with a fair bit of glee! Songlist: O Lusty May, Woe Worth The Time, There's Nae Luck, O Waly Waly, Sea Runes, The Bee, The Flight Of The Bumblebee, Creole Love Call |
