David Hurley Biography

David Hurley

Living in: England

The English counter-tenor, David Hurley, began his singing as a chorister at Winchester Cathedral. At the age of 14 he started using his falsetto in his school choir, and his fragile counter-tenor won him choral scholarship to New College, Oxford, which he inhabited for three years from 1981 until 1984.

Armed with a degree in geography David Hurley began his life as a freelance singer, specialising in higher falsetto parts with groups such as the Gabrieli Consort. The opportunity to audition with The King's Singers came in 1989, and he joined the line-up in February 1990.

In his free time David Hurley enjoys cooking, reading, sailing and doing sudokus; some of these things being more easily done on tour than others. He lives with his wife, Sarah, in the county of West Sussex near the coast, and near his small sailing boat.
