From Latin classics of Jacobus Gallus and Cesar Franck to the Russian a cappella romanticism of Pavel Chenokov, to Handel, Durufle and Wilby as well as fresh and original pop choral a cappella arrangements of "Ave Maria" and "Danny Boy", the Choir of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe in Orlando sets a new standard for musical diversity in Catholic Church liturgical repertoire. The Shrine Choir is the resident professional choir-in-residence at Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine and was formed to minister to the many thousands of tourists who travel to Central Florida's Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, and other attractions. The Choir's members come from all parts of the United States, and all have extensive choral experience. Dr. William Picher, director of the Shrine Choir, is an accomplished organist, trumpeter, conductor, composer and arranger. Three of his compositions appear of this CD, displaying a fresh harmonic approach to vocal writing. |
