Mixed Community Chorus

Based in Winston-Salem, NC

Formed in 2006, the Palmetto Voices is a professional choir that strives to preserve the legacy of the Negro Spiritual while sharing the vision that this unique American art form is available to all. The Palmetto Voices features alumni singers from throughout the southeast. Sumter High School, University of South Carolina, Western Kentucky University, and Brewton Parker College have all experienced choral direction from Dr. Sonja Sepulveda during her teaching career including her current students at Salem College where she is Director of Choral Activities and Music Theory.

Since 2009, the choir has appeared regularly at state and regional conventions. The choir performed at South Carolina Music Educators conference and combined with Brewton Parker College Concert Choir in 2010 to perform the solo concert which previewed, Requiem, conducted by British composer, John Rutter. In 2011, the choir joined forces with the choral ensembles of Salem College to perform a solo concert with guest composer/conductor, Eric Whitacre.
