Community Chorus

Based in Honolulu, HI

The Honolulu Chorale, a non-profit organization, is one of the longest-performing community choruses in the State of Hawai'i. The members of the Chorale represent the multi-ethnicity of the state's population, all walks of life, and ages. The Chorale presents two major concerts each year, in May and December, in addition to performing at community events. In past years they've toured Hawai'i's neighboring islands, Europe, Japan, and China. In March, the Chorale sponsors an annual Community Chorus Festival at which a variety of Hawai'i's ethnic choral groups perform.

Early in its history the Chorale presented a number of great oratorios while serving as the principal performing chorus for the Honolulu Symphony. The Chorale currently sings a wide variety of musical styles including classical, folk, Broadway, and Hawaiian music. In recent years they have performed works by Haydn, Mozart, Salieri, Schubert, and Vivaldi, as well as such contemporary composers as Steven Porter and Robert Ray.

The Honolulu Chorale also supports local composers by commissioning and performing their choral compositions. Works and arrangements by Jerre Tanner, Don Conover, Charlotte Bara, Chris Suzuki, and Sharon Kagihara have been included in past performances.

Audition Policy - Membership in the Chorale is open to young adult and adult singers from within the O‘ahu community. The only requirements are being able to match pitch and to keep a commitment to active membership in the organization.
