Ashville Gay Men's Chorus

Ashville Gay Men

Male LGBT Chorus

Based in Asheville, NC

For over 20 years Asheville's gay men's chorus has been sharing its voice with Asheville and the greater Western North Carolina area. Starting with just a few gay men the chorus continues to grow reaching an ever-increasing diverse audience.

In 1998 a group of three gay men from All Souls Cathedral decided that a gay chorus was vital to the community. Together, Will Jones, David Hopes and Jack Parsons organized a new chorus led by Dr. David Friddle which became known as Cantaria-The Gay Men's Chorus of Asheville. The first public performance was at an interfaith healing service for World AIDS Day. During that first year the chorus continued to perform including appearances at the UNCA Gay Studies conference and shows for North Carolina Pride 1998.

Over the last two decades the chorus has continued to provide a variety of performances. In 2000 the chorus was honored to be included in the prestigious 'Choral Artist Series', where 'Injustice-Conflict-Memorial' was presented to great acclaim. Through out the decades the gay men's chorus has joined with a variety of other musical organizations including the Asheville Lyric Opera and Asheville Choral Society.

Founded - 1998.
