Singing Out Las Cruces was founded in 2011 by charter members, and under the direction of the first Artistic Director Dr. Ruth Hanlin, performed its first concert 'We Are All One' Mission: Singing Out Las Cruces (SOLC) is a mixed voice, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and ally/friends non-profit organization that performs choral works for the appreciation, inspiration, and education of our community. SOLC is an active member of GALA Choruses. Vision Using the power of music to entertain, heal, inspire, SOLC gives voice to our community and strives for a society where all people are respected and appreciated. Singing Out Las Cruces is currently under the direction of Irene Brink, a Las Cruces native, has performed musically on stage, as a solo performer and in choirs throughout the area since early childhood. She has a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and a Master's in Music from NMSU she has been active in the local musical community since she was a child. She has maintained a private voice studio for sixteen years and is currently the Director of Choirs at Vista Middle School. The group's accompanist is Barry Shaw. Barry has been playing piano for over 60 years. He has studied with various teachers in Hobbs, Las Cruces, and Seattle. He has focused on playing for Musicals including Godspell, Oh Coward, Company, Shrek, Wizard of Oz, and Nunsense. In Seattle, he accompanied the Emerald City Volunteers, a subgroup of Seattle Men's Chorus. He also played for fundraisers for the Pacific Northwest Ballet, the Lambda Defense fund in addition to many weddings, musical revues, and his work as a solo accompanist. Outside of his work for SOLC he is also the musical director of two churches here in Las Cruces. |
