The Musettes was founded in 1960 by the Nampa Musicale, an affiliate of The National Federation of Music Clubs. It was started by women who needed an opportunity for musical expression and sisterhood. The name 'Musettes' was suggested as an off-hand way of feminizing The Muses. Since the very beginning, the musical standard for The Musettes has been set high; all songs must be completely memorized and often integrate many layers of harmonies and movements. In 1965, The Musettes Scholarship Program was introduced. Every year, four scholarships are awarded: two awards go to members of The Musettes, and two awards go to area students 14-18 years of age. Being part of The Musettes has inspired and lifted many members to greater musical and personal confidence. Singing and performing well has been, and ever will be, our main objective. The women of the group develop not only musically, but also in many other performance skills. There are opportunities to develop in networking, costuming, drama, staging, choreography, promotions, and organizational activities. To date, more than 350 women have been a part of The Musettes. The choir has performed over 100 seasonal concerts and awarded thousands of dollars in music scholarships to over 150 students and choir members. |
