In 1993, when Bradley High School students, Chad and Brandon Guyton, attended a Harmony Explosion presentation, they had no idea what lay ahead. A few years later, they recruited two fellow Lee University musicians, Lester Rector and Jayson VanHook, to form Four Voices. Contrary to popular belief, the "Four Voices" name was not inspired from the obvious, that is the requirement to fulfill the prerequisites of a quartet. Actually, these young men met in the Voices of Lee, a 16-member vocal orchestra group at Lee University, where they contributed four of the eight men's voices to make a unique, harmonious sound that has gained international recognition. The Four Voices decided to enter the 1996 MBNA Collegiate Barbershop Quartet Contest in Salt Lake City and were fortunate enough to come away with the championship. In 1999, the quartet agreed that it was time to take a shot at the "Big Leagues" and entered the Dixie District Contest. They were thrilled to come away with the championship, but they were not finished yet. They set a goal to qualify for International in 2000 and reached this dream in March by qualifying at the Dixie District preliminary contest. After only three short years of International Competition, Four Voices became the first International College Quartet Champion to win the World Championship of Barbershop! In Portland Oregon the quartet captured the coveted gold medal. All in their early twenties, Four Voices is only just beginning! Their music has taken them literally around the world. Performing in concerts, corporate venues, television shows, and churches from California to Israel, Four Voices' unique sound and fresh approach to their style is exciting to say the least. In their "civilian" lives, 3 of the guys are married and the other is actively taking looking! Lester works in the Music Department at Lee University, directing one of the campus choral troupes while pursuing his master's degree. He is married to the lovely Holly. Jayson is the director of Institutional research at Lee University, and in his spare time (ha) has begun his PhD work. He is married to the wonderful Arlyene. She and Jayson have an incredible new son, Christian Logan. Brandon also works for Lee University in the Information Systems Department and is married to the beautiful Noemi. She and Brandon are also the proud parents of a new son, Chandler Pierce, and one on the way! Chad, well Chad broke the mold entirely. He does not work for Lee University but serves as the Communications Coordinator for the Church of God denomination. Awards |
