The Camerata Singers, founded in 1972 by Dr. Allan Birney, has been an integral part of the Lehigh Valley's notable arts community and continues to make a significant contribution to the artistic life of the area by providing several quality programs of classical and contemporary choral music each year. The group is especially dedicated to preserving our rich musical heritage with performances that include superior instrumental accompaniment and soloists. Highlights of the choir's 38 seasons include Bach's St. Matthew Passion and Mass in B Minor, Haydn's Creation, Honegger's Joan of Arc, Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony, Tippett's A Child of Our Time, and Requiems of Brahms, Mozart, Verdi, Faure, Rutter and Andrew Lloyd Webber. The 2008-2009 season featured an area premiere of Paul McCartney's Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart). The 90 or so singers of the choir are serious musicians who range from college students to senior citizens, with a wide variety of professions and occupations. The choir rehearses from September through April on Tuesday evenings at Wesley Church, Bethlehem, PA. |
