Mixed Choral Chorus from New York City, NY, United States.
For more than two decades, the Young People's Chorus of New York City has provided children of all ethnic, religious, and economic backgrounds with a unique program of music education and choral performance, while maintaining a model of artistic excellence and harmony that enriches the community.
YPC was founded by YPC Artistic Director Francisco J. Nunez in 1988 and has become one of the most celebrated and influential children's choruses in the world, performing around the globe, releasing acclaimed recordings from across the musical spectrum, and collaborating with many of the most highly regarded composers, performers, and organizations of our time. Through its celebrated Transient Glory series of concerts, publications, and CDs, the chorus has commissioned well over 50 new works from composers that include Pulitzer Prize, Oscar, and MacArthur "genius" grant winners and regularly collaborates with such major artists and institutions as Carnegie Hall, The New York Pops, the Stephen Petronio Dance Company, the Kronos Quartet, and American Ballet Theatre, among many others.
More than 1,300 children from ages seven to 18 participate annually through YPC's core after-school program, its Satellite program in New York City schools and its first national affiliates in Erie, Pennsylvania, and Tenafly, New Jersey, with others being planned. The resident chorus at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center; and WNYC, New York Public Radio, YPC is frequently seen on national television, such as appearances on Good Morning America, the Today Show, and an Emmy Award-winning feature on PBS-TV's "From the Top at Carnegie Hall." YPC choristers have also introduced millions of radio listeners to the newest cutting-edge music through their national Radio Radiance broadcasts on American Public Media.
YPC season highlights include: return engagements at St. Patrick Cathedral, collaborations with the Kronos Quartet, the Carnegie Hall Family Sing in February, and performances at the American Choral Directors Association National Conference in March. YPC is also celebrating 10 years of Transient Glory with performances at (Le) Poisson Rouge with the Kronos Quartet, "Works & Process" at the Guggenheim Museum, and the Transient Glory Concert of newly commissioned works at the 92nd Street Y in May 2011.
YPC has received worldwide recognition for its performances on three continents, including most recently, debuts in Wales and Switzerland followed by its third trip to Japan in a 14-city summer tour. The chorus also holds almost a dozen gold medals won in international competitions in the U.S., Canada, Spain, and the Czech Republic. Among the YPC's many other awards and honors are Chorus America's Education Outreach Award and two Chorus America/ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming. YPC was among the first inductees in the WNET/Thirteen Community Hall of Fame and has been recognized for its work with urban at-risk youth by the New York State Assembly, the Mayor of the City of New York, the Manhattan Borough President and as a "national model of artistic excellence and diversity" by the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.

Review: CoolSide of Yuletide brings an exciting new sound and youthful energy to classic holiday carols. These urban arrangements were developed by noted composer, Jim Papoulis and Francisco J. Nunez, Artistic Director of the award-winning Young People's Chorus of New York City. Thanks to modern digital technology, "How Many Christmases" unites Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Rosanne Cash and the Young People's Chorus of New York City with a global mix of choirs from across the 50 United States as well as Europe, Australia, Africa and Asia. The result is the first ever "virtual" global choir raising their voices in harmony.
Songlist: Deck the Hall, Joy to the World, Where Are My Angels?, Song For Peace, Oh Christmas Tree, Angel Medley, How Many Christmases?, We Three Kings, Let it Snow, Little Drummer Boy, Abreme la Puerta, Home, Give Us Hope, Silent Night
Review: New York City's YPC, under the acclaimed direction of Francisco J. Nunez, now involving over 1,300 boys and girls ages 7 to 18 in its after school programs, has been generating a lot of buzz in the children's chorus world. They have done this by commissioning new works for children's chorus, performing and winning gold medals internationally and recording acclaimed albums like "Dreamer," which features the Concert Chorus and Young Men's Chorus. Let us also not forget their full-color liner notes filled with beautiful pix of the kids in concert! There are 12 well-arranged, spirited, mostly accompanied tunes here, our favorites are the traditional Ghana song "Tue Tue," Faraualla's "Riki Tiki Tavi," the traditional Zulu song "Tshotsholoza," the powerful, percussion-accompanied Brazilian song "Tres Cantos Nativos dos Indios Krao," Stephen Foster's Folk classic "Beautiful Dreamer," Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl/Boy from New York City" medley, Paul Simon's "Bridge Over Troubled Water," Jim Papoulis and Director Nunez' "We Will Lift You Up" and John Lennon's "Imagine." We rarely hear children's choruses perform and record with such poise, power and chutzpa, but YPC has it. Buy and enjoy "Dreamer," and remember to remind yourself that these are kids!

Review: The works on this CD were created to celebrate the profoundly transcendent nature of young singing voices. This CD displays the chorus' commitment to young voices singing glorious music during that short, transient period of childhood.
