Originally a Hard Bop instrumental by sax great Benny Golson, Quincy Jones brought his genius to the song when he penned lyrics to this melody. Killer Joe exploded onto the scene in Quincy's album Q's Jook Joint and was later covered by countless vocal jazz icons including The Manhattan Transfer. Here it is set in a gentle swing style with vocal lines accessible to even beginning vocal jazz ensembles. |
