Listen to Alley Cats : A Christmas Long AgoReview: Our favorite Doo-Wopping Cats, who cut their a cappella teeth with Disney (like Sweeps winners Toxic Audio) and won the So. Cal. Harmony Sweeps, celebrate their 18th year together by finally saying yes to the many fans who have asked for a Christmas album. The upbeat, nostalgic original "A Christmas Long Ago," a wonderfully Doo-Woppy "Let It Snow," a bluesy "Please Come Home for Christmas" to slow dance to, a finger-snapping, Bing-imitating "White Christmas," some yummy falsetto on the Beach Boys' "Little St. Nick," a silly, manic "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer," a very funny "Blue Christmas" (Yes, Royce "Elvis" Reynolds is back!), a rhythmic, joyous "Feliz Navidad," a sweet baritone lead on "Sleigh Ride" and closing with the bluesy-jazz harmonies of "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve;" it's all good. Yummy deep-bass harmonies, lots of the Cats' trademark humor, great arrangements by the group and in collaboration with original Cat Todd Dixon--"Long Ago," the group's 5th winner, is a stone joy, and you should also check them out live in concert in their hot DVD! Songlist: Intro, A Christmas Long Ago, Let It Snow, Please Come Home For Christmas, White Christmas, Little St. Nick, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, Blue Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Sleigh Ride, What Are You Doing New Year's Eve, Outro Belmonts : Acappella ChristmasReview: The Belmonts, Daniel Elliott, Fred Milano, Warren Gradus and Angelo D'Aleo, are a Doo-Wop group that goes way back-as we can tell from the Sonny Bono outfits they're sporting on the cover. An unusual mix here-'Annual Animal Christmas Ball' will delight the younger set, a folky, inspirational 'Miracle on the Hill,' and a lilting 'The Child Divine.' 'Our First Christmas as Mr. and Mrs.' is pure streetcorner doo-wop. Then we have the rousing minor-keyed Hanukkah carol, 'The 8 Days of Hanukkah.' 'A Lot Like Santa Claus' spills the beans on the bearded one's true identity. Our favorite cut is the traditional 'Mary Had a Baby.' The cd closes, as will the year, with 'Old 365' a sweet song to the year gone by and the 'new kid on the block.' A unique holiday collection by some talented guys! Songlist: The Annual Animal Christmas Ball, Miracle On The Hill, The Child Divine, Our First Year As Mr and Mrs, The Eight Days Of Hanukkah, A Lot Like Santa Claus, Mary Had A Baby, Old 365 (The New Year's Song) Listen to Cat's Pajamas Vocal Band : Purr-Fect For The HolidaysReview: Brian, Nate, Brad, Nathaniel, Mike and Nate are five-man a cappella band from Branson, MO who entered the national spotlight in 2005 when they placed in the top 10 while performing their Oreo Cookie Jingle for Randy Jackson. Since then they have been touring the world, and now perform over 200 shows per year in Branson and throughout the U.S. They have been seen on multiple TV shows, cruise ships and performing arts centers around the world, and were recently picked to compete on NBC's The Sing-Off! "Purrfect..." is the group's first Christmas CD of 12 tunes. Favorites are a crazed, manic, very fun "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," a very silly "The Chipmunk Song" with perfect imitations of Alvin, Simon and Theodore; a jazzy, chord-bending, very Motown arrangement of "Silver Bells;" a mellow "White Christmas, Part 1 and jazzy, finger-popping, doo-woppy "White Christmas, Part 2; a powerful, sweet take on "Mary Did You Know," "Mustang Santa" is a big fun, soulful romp, and, after that, the incongruous but hauntingly lovely "In the Bleak Mid Winter" features guest tenor George Dyer. We love a cappella groups who become great entertainers, and Cat's Pajamas is one of the best. Don't miss this one! "Away in a Manger" is reinvented as a finger-popping Doo-Wop standard with soaring leads, "Candlesong" is a romantic holiday torch tune perfect for slow dancing, and "Feliz Navidad" and "Sleigh Ride" are spirited, richly harmonic covers. Other favorites are "White Christmas," which channels Bing Crosby's droll, chocolaty baritone and sparkling tenor backup, "Let It Snow" is as bright and romantic as a yule log on the fire, and we hardly recognized, but enjoyed the new arrangement of "Silent Night." "Away in a Manger" is richly harmonic and traditionally beautiful, "Mary Did You Know" is nicely arranged and thought-provoking, and "He is Born" closes the collection with an inspiring, harmonic gem. If you love authentic Doo-Wop and Christmas, don't miss this one! Songlist: Away In A Manger, Candlesong, Feliz Navidad, Sleigh Ride, White Christmas, Let It Snow, Silent Night, Away In A Manger (traditional), Mary, Did You Know?, He Is Born Listen to Mighty Echoes : Doo Wop Around The Christmas TreeReview: One of our longtime favorite Doo-Wop a cappella male quartets, the Echoes apply their "simple and profound" sound, as "Two a Half Men" writer Eddie Gorodefsky describes it, to 11 Christmas chestnuts: "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," "The "Christmas Song," "Winter Wonderland," "White Christmas," the plaintive "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve," "Christmas In New Orleans," "Blue Christmas," "O Holy Night," and finishing with John Lennon/ Yoko Ono's "Happy Xmas {War is Over)." It adds up to a yummy, rich, deep-bass, vocal Christmas pudding to enjoy again and again! But here it is, 14 songs performed as only the Persuasions can. The recording opens with a rollicking rendition of the title tune You're All I Want For Christmas, and includes a mix of traditional songs ("Silent Night," "Joy To The World") with contemporary tunes (doo-woppy "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer," "Merry Christmas Baby"). Songlist: You're All I Want for Christmas, Jingle Bell Rock, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, The Jesus Song, This Time of Year, Do You Hear What I Hear, Silent Night, What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?, The Christmas Song, White Christmas, Hey, Santa Claus, Merry Christmas, Baby, Christmas Means Love, Joy to the World Listen to Pure Gold, Reunion, DC Finest : Acappella ChristmasReview: Join three of the most entertaining doo-wop groups performing today for a jubilant holiday sing-along, street corner style! Known for their authentic performance and recording of the classic 1950s Doo-Wop, this Christmas CD features songs, some with light percussion, most of which we have not heard before. "Christmas Puts Jingle Bells in My Heart," a bopping "Santa Claus, Santa Claus," the a cappella anthem "My New Year's Prayer," the nice original "Give Your Heart For Christmas," the a cappella lament "She Took The Merry Out Of My Christmas" and the love song "Christmas Is Over." Contemporary doo-wop mixed quintet Stormy Weather are from Gary, Indiana, and their versions of 'Jingle Bells,' 'A Yule Tide Aire,' 'Rudolph The Rednosed Reindeer' and so many more (15 in all), are musically solid and amazingly creative. 'Hardrock, Coco and Joe' and 'Suzy Snowflake' are definitely directed at the little curtain climbers, who will be enthralled. 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree' is anchored by a nimble vocal bass performance (bass takes the lead for two verses on 'White Christmas'). 'All I Want For Christmas' is reggaeized; 'Hey Santa Claus,' written by the Moonglows' Harvey Fuqua, (accompanied) swings hard. Last cut: 'Lady Millenium,' which will get you in the mood for New Year's Eve! Songlist: Hardrock, Coco & Joe, Suzy Snowflake, Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer, Jingle Bell Rock, Christmas Round, White Christmas, A Yule Tide Aire, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, All I Want For Christmas, Doo Wop Yule Pop, Little Drummer Boy/ Do You Hear What I Hear, Little Red Shoes, Jingle Bells, Hey Santa Claus, Lady Millennium Listen to Stormy Weather : Street CarolsReview: Featuring a guest line-up that makes us want to crash the backstage hospitality area to say hello, the Gary, Indiana based Stormy Weather turn the mikes over to the likes of Ronnie Spector ('Creation Of Love'), The Spaniels ('Santa's Lullabye,' 'Peace Of Mind') and the Chi-Lites ('It's The Time'). 'Little Red Shoes,' adds a tasty acoustic guitar part to the lead vocal by Rock 'n Roll Hall-Of-Famer Jerry Butler, and he sings it from the gut and the heart, that's for sure. Stormy Weather gets their turn, too, with 'You're My Christmas Present,' 'Jingle Bell Rock,' and others, but clearly, they enjoy sharing the credit with their talented associates. The choir sings a "bop-bop-bop" refrain alternately with classic back-ups, as a soloist or small group croons the flirtatious text, weaving in popular song titles from back in the day. "At Christmas (A Christmas Sha-na-na)" - It's a blast from the past when your choir sings this fun-filled holiday original by Andy Beck. Your singers and audience will love snapping their fingers and tapping their toes to this doo-wop style tune backed up with traditional 50s harmonies and classic "sha-na-nas." And don't miss the clever use of quotes from several popular holiday songs throughout! It's an easy-to-learn a cappella novelty in the SSATB voicing, or feature a crooning soloist with piano accompaniment and back-up singers in the 3-part. "What'cha Gonna Bring for Christmas?" - Feature your best solo crooner(s) on this '50s inspired a cappella chorus that begs Santa for a timeless teen wish: "Won't you bring me someone to love?" The choir serves equally as the featured act (of the chorus and bridge) and the backup singers (for two dreamy verses). The final falsetto phrases and 7th chord cadence deliver a sweet doo-wop ending. Songlist: A Doo-Wop Christmas (With You), At Christmas (A Christmas Sha-na-na), What'cha Gonna Bring for Christmas?
