Linda Beaupre received her Bachelor of Music degree with a major in music education and concentrations in piano and voice from the State University of New York at Potsdam, and her Master of Music degree with a major in vocal performance form the University of Western Ontario. She has taught school music and school choirs in Australia and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and for several years she was a soprano with the Elmer Iseler Singers and the Torronto Mendelssohn Choir. She has been director of the Bach Children's Chorus since she founded it in 1987. Since 1991 she has also conducted the Guelph Youth Singers, founded in that year, which includes four choirs at differing levels of training. Linda maintains an active schedule as clinician and adjudicator for other choirs. She has conducted children's choir camps for the Toronto District School Board, the Choral Federations of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario and Saskatchewan, and she has adjudicated festivals in both Ontario and Newfoundland. In 1996 she received a Bi-Centennial Award of Merit from the City of Scarborough. These awards were given to 200 individuals, from throughout Scarborough's 200 year history, whose achievements have brought honour and recognition to the City of Scarborough. In May, 2002 she was also awarded the Guelph YM/YWCA Women of Distinction award in the Arts and Culture category. In Dec, 2006 Linda was awarded the Leslie Bell Prize for choral conducting. This award is presented every two years by the Ontario Arts Council to a person who has made an impact on choral music in Ontario. Linda was chosen by a panel of peers for her excellent conducting skills, extraordinary commitment to youth, cultural diversity and Canadian repertoire. Groups Directed |
