The incomparable Vienna Boys' Choir sings two masterpieces with the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra. Led by Peter Marschik, the ensemble performs the "Coronation" Mass in C Major by W.A. Mozart and "Ich hatte viel Bekummernis," by J.S. Bach. The Coronation Mass is traditionally believed to have been written for the crowning of an image of the Virgin Mary in a church near Salzburg. Bach's cantata was written to be sung the third Sunday after Trinity. Both pieces have lovely solo moments, particularly the mournful "Seufzer, Thranen, Kummer, Not," for soprano with oboe obbligato. |
