From 1987 - 2010, Stephen sang Bass and co-directed the internationally acclaimed vocal ensemble The King's Singers. In addition to performing in excess of 120 concerts each year for almost a quarter of a century, he has made frequent appearances around the world. He has recorded extensively with EMI, BMG Records, Signum Records and Sony, collecting many awards - including three Grammy nominations and a Grammy. Following his 23 years with The King's Singers, he spent 6 years as Head of Vocal Studies at The Cheltenham Ladies' College. He is a regular guest in masterclasses at the Leipzig International A Cappella Festival and Competition, where he also often appears as President of the Jury. He is a regular adjudicator for the prestigious European Grand Prix competition for Choral Singing, as well as the BBC Choir of the Year competition in the UK. After singing in The King's Singers for over two decades, in 2008 Stephen formed his International A Cappella School (IAS) to share his knowledge and passion for a cappella music. IAS provides an opportunity for choral singers (whether as individuals or as members of existing choirs/vocal groups) to attend an annual residential IAS Summer Course in the UK, where singers can immerse themselves in a specially selected and diverse choral repertoire. Throughout the year, Stephen is also invited to run tailor-made IAS Workshops around the world, coaching choirs and vocal groups on their own repertoire. Member of King's Singers - Bass |
