Anton Forsberg Biography
Although born in Stockholm, the smaller town of Norrkoping was where Anton spent most of his early years. From being handed a trumpet in the crib, his whole upbringing was pervaded by music - exploring a variety of different instruments, genres and styles. The introduction of jazz music in his life came from his grandfather, who recognized that the records he played in his car made Anton instinctively react with interest and excitement. Among the artists that especially caught Anton's attention were Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, John Coltrane along with The Real Group. Always amazed by the musical and emotional power of the voice as a musical tool, the music of The Real Group has been a part of his life from his very early days. In 2015, Anton moved to Stockholm to study at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in jazz music with the guitar as his main instrument. During his years of studying, he was also a part of the renowned Danish vocal group Touche, gaining valuable experience of what it means to make music purely a cappella and to perform at a very high professional level - touring all over Europe. Freelancing both as a vocalist and as a guitar player, he has worked with groups and artists such as the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Anders Berglund, Ellen Andersson, among others. For the last-mentioned, he arranged and produced her debut album, which was awarded "Best Swedish Jazz Album of the Year" and "Newcomer of the Year" by Orkesterjournalen and Swedish Radio in 2017. As a composer and arranger, Anton has written music for the Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra as well as arrangements for a variety of different musical settings, such as big bands, string quartets, stage musicals etc. He also enjoys working as a producer and/or musical director, believing that a good leader is someone combining a strong vision with an open mind, allowing the sum and interplay of different experiences and perspectives to prosper. That also applies to his teaching, which is something he feels very passionate about. Outside of the stage, tour bus or studio, Anton immensely enjoys cooking, flying sailplanes (gliding), drinking good coffee and exploring new places, thoughts and perspectives. His playlists and musical inspirations are characterized by diversity, ranging from Jeff Buckley, Sarah Vaughan and James Blake to Kent, Keith Jarrett, Lianne La Havas and Prokofiev. Whenever possible, Anton tries to listen instead of talking, believing the world would be a very different place if we were to focus on learning from other's perspectives instead of imposing our own.
