2010 International Barbershop Harmony Society Champs Storm Front describe as: "Three years, Nine contest sets, One Gold Medal. Enjoy Storm Front's journey on "The Road to Gold!" The group's extensive use of humor and parody, particularly directed at the process they have had to go through to finally win are a big reason why they have consistently been judged in the top ten. They placed sixth in Nashville in 2008, singing Showstopper parodies "The Champs are Coming Back," "We've Grown Accustomed to 3rd Place," and the hilarious "Don't Ask Me Why;" third in Anaheim in 2009, where they unleashed their "Medal Come Back" parody, the ludicrous "Lida Rose/Dream of Now" medley, and their Finalist "Top Ten Parody;" and Philadelphia 2010, where their "Wonderful World" costumes, the contest rule "Anything Goes" parody and the manic Jukebox "Jukebox Saturday Night Medley (Car Song)" montage gave them their coveted Gold Medals! Although some of the inside Barbershop jokes went over our heads, as these are all live cuts, it's clear they all hit the judges and audiences right in their BHS funny bones. There are two discs here: Disc 1 has all six songs from their Finals performances in 2008 and 2009, and Disc 2 has all six songs from their incredible win in 2010. Several songs, such as the totally silly "Where or When," "Don't Fence Me In," "Lida Rose," and "We've Grown Accustomed to 3rd Place," are repeated, sometimes more than once. Wonderful harmonies, ringing, incredible closing chords, very funny, creative material-it all adds up to great entertainment, and, happily, finally, to Gold for Storm Front! |
