Eclipse is an ensemble of six who met in northern Utah while attending Utah State University. They have performed extensively with the USU Department of Programs and Entertainment. This is their first recording and features original songs by all the members of the band along with a smattering of cleverly arranged covers. The original songs tend to be love songs and might be categorized as sweet-rock. They cover Sting's "King of Pain" with some marvelous vocal embellishments and "Africa" (not again, you think to yourself...but wait!) with a scat falsetto break making it the newest arrangement in a long while. "Danny Boy" is sung as a beautiful multi-part harmony and showcases just what fine voices these singers have, and "Zoot Suit Riot" is a full on jazz arrangement. This is a great first recording of a group worthy of close attention. |
